    They both sound great, JNC. I don't think there's enough of a difference to matter at all, at least when listening on TH-cam with the compression algorithm.

      @@gdawgs101I have an SE McCarty and rarely have to tune it. When had an SG and Les Paul, I had to tune them every time I picked them up, plus check the tuning when I was playing. I’ve had three PRS SEs and tuning hasn’t been a problem.

      @@davidkeller6156 One of the 2 guitars I have this issue with is a PRS SE DGT (the other is a Les Paul, of course lol). I recognize everyone's mileage varies, but I've never had a guitar w/ six-in-line tuners that had a tuning stability issue

    • @kellygreenii

      @@gdawgs101 Have the nut looked at. It’s usually because it hasn’t been cut properly and the G string binds. So it slowly goes out of tune.
      PRS does an amazing job with this (Gibson, though…🤬), so I have fewer tuning problems with PRS guitars than I do Fenders.
      When I pick up a PRS it’s almost always in tune. When I pick up a strat or tele, the first thing I do is tune it (unless it has locking tuners).

    The difference between the instruments is basically that the K Line is unapologetically chasing the vintage vibe and aesthetic, where the Silver Sky is trying to place vintage characteristics into an otherwise modern instrument. The SS is more different from a Fender than the average Strat copy, albeit that many of the differences are quite subtle.

    Absolutely it does ! Using the same amp, same settings, blindfolded I doubt if most if anyone can truly identify either. I always have to laugh when folks talk about headstocks...you're not playing the headstock. You're playing the guitar because it feels good...sounds good. Regardless, it's all incredibly subjective. IF you're one of those players who is always buying/selling then it's probably an easier sell with the PRS. AND yes, weight is definitely a concern. Guess I'm just a PRS fan. Cheers !

      I'm not a PRS fan but have nothiing against them really. However since the Silver Sky has come out, I have this itch to buy one just because of the sounds I have heard and reviews which have really capturd my interest. Ideally, I'd like one strat shaped thing that could do everything, whereas now I have 3 strat shaped things Fender, Boutique and Squier CV which all do some things I like really well. I guess I'll just have to take a dive at some point on an affordable secondhand one and see if it is the versatile strat that gives me everything I want :)

    @grahamaldridge หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’ll start with an apology to anyone who might be offended - I don’t intend to upset anyone. :-)
    The Springfield appears to me to have a more rounded tone with a bit more body and dynamics to the notes in the DI section. To me, the PRS def sounds a bit anaemic in comparison in that part.
    Through the processing things even out a bit sonically. I’m only listening with earbuds on my phone but I’d struggle to tell which was which on a blind AB.
    I don’t like the headstock on the PRS, and I’m a little surprise to see the joins on the body are clearly visible under the solid finish - they catch the light and that surprised me for a PRS.
    But the absolute killer for me is the bird inlays. I just hate them. A dot neck would look soooooo much nicer.

    They sound close enough that I'd pick the one that's more comfortable to play. And along those lines, I wonder if you like doing bends on the PRS because of the 3 on a side tuners. It's half way to an inverted headstock.

    I don’t look at the headstock when playing, so I could give two shits about what it looks like. Never tried a K-Line, but if I grab a PRS off of the wall at any music store, I know what to expect. If you want the full Strat experience, buy a Fender Strat. If you want modern appointments, go for the Silver Sky or K-Line as they are both very well regarded. I will say that I prefer the Dirty Blondes as well. TBH, I'm not 100% sure why - I think it's mostly because it's a "vanilla" guitar: there's nothing it does badly and it's pretty good at everything. • @picksalot1
    @picksalot1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Both guitars sound like the action is too low, causing the strings to slap against the frets, and results in tone loss for Cleans. That doesn't matter much for dirty and overdriven tones. The PRS had creamier overdriven tones, and the K Line sounded Stratier on those. The PRS color looks sickly to me.
    Regarding needing a fret job, re-crowning frets is not that hard to do. But, it's worthwhile to get a decent Crowning File that does not have "teeth" on the very top, so you are not reducing the fret height when you use it. The goal is just angling/beveling the sides of the frets inward to the top of the frets - but don't make it pointy. For "spot filing," when you only have a few problem frets or strings on certain frets, a "spark plug" file can work very well and are very inexpensive. Just remember to tape the fretboard wood up to the edge of the frets so you don't damage the wood with the edge of the file.
    I just had to "spot" file about 4 or 5 frets on my Strat last night that have been sounding too much like a Sitar. Just identified the flat spots, filed a bevel towards the center/top of the fret areas that needed filing, then sanded the tops of the frets with 1000 grit sandpaper in the same direction of the frets. Took about 20 minutes including loosening and moving strings out of the way and tuning back up. The guitar should be good for another 6 months.

    I think what often gets missed is that the Silver Sky was designed by John Mayer in hopes of making what he thought was a better Strat...but at the same time not a Strat. Its his specs...so its 'his' guitar...it might not fit into a lot of peoples beliefs as their go to axe. It's not meat to be a Strat in my eyes...thus why the headstock is different (and it works for me), has different curves and cut aways, different switch and wammy bar. As far as colors and finish goes...the PRS on this video is not what I'd say not a desired one as it's rather bland. I've heard others complain about plastic parts...well folks every guitar out there has plastic! The necks on the Silver Sky are awesome for and finish as well as playability. They ARE top shelve, boutique guitars...as well as better than a Fender Strat and most other brands...IMHO.

    I just can’t gel with a PRS. I don’t get it. The SE’s feel cheap, and to my ears the ceramics sound bad. I’ve only played one K-Line, but to me it’s not even a contest. But you like what you like. So play what you love.

    The soul is in the wood parts. The attitude is in the pickups.

    PRS are heavy hitters! The only thing they got wrong is the fretboard radius, should've been modern, not vintage.

    K-Line for me. My fave strat is and ESP Vintage, That's an even uglier headstock.

    I played a great SS at a store. Great neck, balance, weight, I didn’t dig the pickups at all though. They were like a karaoke version of what one imagines good Strat pickups to be. In your clip, they both sound good but the K-Line is superior.

    The PRS sounds “Plinky” with more string attack. This can be good or bad depending on the situation. I like the bite that it brings on overdriven leads but not so much on cleans.

    The Silver Sky is more HiFi. Not better or worse. The K Line is less snappy, more smooth.

    Always found the Silver Sky dull and a little underwhelming compared to a good Strat

    Anybody wanting to sell K-Line? I'm looking for one (Europe). JNS, have you tried Suhr or Xotic strats?

    Just to preface...the headstock shape does NOT matter while playing (obviously). That being said, the PRS headstock is uglier by a mile. Even their carved top models, while having honestly one of the prettiest aesthetics (bar maybe nik huber) are always just let down by the ugly headstock . The santana headstock looks so much better.

    PRS is definitely uglier. That headstock looks like my 2nd grade doodling. Don't get me going on the "inkblot" birds. You make it sound great though so the function must be pretty OK.
