Verstappen needs Red Bull much more than Red Bull needs Verstappen. Red Bull could win the championship with Alonso, Sainz, Norris and a few other drivers, but at the moment it seems unlikely that Verstappen could win the championship with any other team than Red Bull. Certainly not with Mercedes.
Getting rid of Verstappen could show the world that they won because of the car, not because of the driver. Last year the second place in the championship went to Perez. So even without Verstappen Red Bull had still won the championship.
