Payback was done by Cauldron Software rather than Raven Software since they bought the IP from them. Raven Software isn't necessarily legendary when compared to the past ID Software but they were still one of the best despite some of their games not selling well.
other underrated modern shooters better than COD and BF games -Farcry 2 (probably the least favorite of the saga but is the most realistic shooter that i have played in terms of healing system, weapon degradation, Companion's perma-death and a huge map to explore in a fps -SWAT 4 by Irrational Games -Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 (seriously Ubisoft, what the hell you did with Siege?) -Delta Force: Black hawk Down -F.E.A.R. 1 (Ok this is kinda Sci-fi horror but still counts as a modern shooter) -Counter Strike 1.6
CS is not underrated. And while I enjoyed Vegas 1 an 2 it was easily the second and third worse games (first was Lockdown, especially the PC version) it felt more like a toned down gears of war then a tactical shooter with covere mechanics and regenerating health.
At least i found ONE guy thinking the same thing than me about Far Cry 2 I played ALL the games in the franchise , ALL the Battlefield , ALL the COD , ALL the Medal of honor , and still , FC2 is my #1 favorite FPS still have the game
I liked the older ones way better then this. Mostly because it was more buggy then an ant hill, the FOV was horrific, the guns had barely any kick to them and bosses were nothing more then a normal trooper with buffed up health because everyone likes fighting a bullet sponge which shows no reaction to getting shot in the face. Even the gore itself was pretty poor but I guess you could blame that on games becoming more mature.

The graphics in SOF 1 haven't aged well and SOF 2 has some bullshit stealth and escorts missions but both work on modern systems as far as I know and the first has a configurable difficulty setting which let's you choose how many enemies you want to spawn when there is an alert (yes there is an alert system but it's based more on noise and you can turn it off if you hate it), how many times you can save in a mission and how many weapons you can carry at once.
Back in 2012, I tried a combo of an LP/Walkthrough for army men 3D and the fans enjoyed that far more. The regular LP was getting almost no views so I abandoned it. It was a waste of time
It has a really good ideas that modern shooters should take notes about this, sadly the execution of the final product didn´t come well, however if Raven Software plans to make another new game of this series i gonna take a look to it hopefully this time will be as expected.
I enjoyed this game a lot really. It clearly was rushed and/or had a limited budget, but it was a ton of fun. Really my only issue was the fact that much of the guns don't have much use since you wont pick up an ammo throughout the level. Really though it kind of added to the replay value when it came to doing a no death playthrough.

I remember when this game came out I was actually fascinated by it and not sure why it got so much hate other than how far it strayed from the source material. But other than that, I always wanted to play this game because it was one of the only shooters I knew at the time that included the option to select and customize weapons of your choosing in campaign mode other than Rainbow Six: Vegas.
This game looks pretty badass lol I might have to pick it up sometime. Anyway I wanted to ask you if you've played or even heard of the "Commandos" games. It's an rts set in world war 2 (stop me if you've heard this set up before) stealth game and you have to take control of a small squad of about 8 or 9 commandos. I Green Beret, a Sapper, a thief, a Diver, a spy, a sniper, a driver, a temptress (I think that's what they call her) and another person I'm probably forgetting about. The character choice is slightly generic but they all have distinct traits and personalities. One of the cooler bits of the game is how it basically forces you into certain situations with certain commandos and forces you to work everything out in your head. If I remember right there's only like 1, maybe 2 missions in the entire series that you can use every commando in one mission. Since this comment has basically been one long awkward advert for the games I'm gonna wrap this up I highly recommend these games
This game is a guilty pleasure for me. It can't even hold a candle to the first two games, but Payback offers some fun if you try to find it. It's one of those garbage games you have in your collection that you feel like playing from time to time but you make sure the room is empty first.

At least compared to SOF 1 & SOF 2 which are my all-time favorite FPS games. Also, what difficutly level did you finish it in? I completed it on easy first and then on normal. For some weird reason the second playthrough seemed easier to me despite the higher difficulty level I chose.
I finished the game on normal difficulty level after having finihed it on easy on the PC. On easy I encountered no bugs. But on normal game was extremely buggy exactly like you described. The only thing I liked about this mediocre game was the gore. It is nothing like first 2 SOF games. Far worse and like verybody else is saying: Where is John Mullins and all the heroes from the 2 previous games? A very mediocre game indeed but weapons and their gadgets was indeed a good idea.
The last few levels on hard were a bitch to get through: those shotguns are so broken. This was still nothing compared to CoD WaW or CoD3 on veteran though. Those games are harder than the actual war.
I own and played SoF PB back in the day.I find it an average to good game, it just needed a bit of more polish.What irks me though in it, it's the lack of ammo resupply.It has a great variety of weapons and attachments to experiment and trick out, but you don't get ammo for the guns in-game.Therefore you are forced either to pick up a killed foes' one (with no attachments), or if you want to avoid the hassle, select the same type the enemy uses from the get-go, (which 99% of the time is AK-47) in order to customize it but also keep replenishing ammunition.Ammo crates would solve this situation, but there are none and it is a damn shame.
Soldier of Fortune 1 was the best in the series. It was completely ridiculous with unrealistic weapons and some pretty memorable and awesome levels. I finished that games SP like 6 times cause it flows really well and it's like 6 hours long. SoF 2 took itself WAY too seriously in the Tom Clancy direction and thus it became bland and boring. The dismemberment system looked better and it was fun to play trough at least once, but after that I never touched the SP. SoF 2 Multiplayer is still fun though and there are a surprising number of active servers still around. People play it daily, and there are still quite a few dedicated clans that organize events. I don't care too much for Payback. Far from a terrible game and I had more fun with it than I did with any of the Modern Warfare games, but that isn't saying much.

This game deserves a good review because it's a good game. You know people constantly tell me that the first game is so much better but back in 2020 I played through the first game and I don't know what type of game they were playing because objectively speaking, it's no better than this I got a lot of hate for praising the helicopter fight in payback yet there was another helicopter fight in the first game that played exactly like the one here so by the end I was left scratching my head wondering what all the fuss was about concerning the first game
i think saying that this game rocks is a bit of an overstatement. i played through the game and enjoyed it. im pretty sure it was released as a budget title ($40). i was able to enjoy the multiplayer when you could actually find matches online. (assuming due to lack of popularity and time any servers if they're still up are deserted.) The multiplayer was the best part imo tho.
if this game had medi packs instead of the horrid (even on easy) regenerating health system and a little more polish if could have been a decent, or even a good game.

Love this game. I consider this one of my top favorite Xbox 360 games I ever played (Followed by Secret Service: Courage Under Fire, Saint's Row The Third, and, my #1 favorite game: Earth Defense Force 2025). Also, I think this is one of the few games to feature the Metal Storm series of weapons.

I can't believe you actually praise the boss battles for the sake of having them, they are without a doubt the worst bosses of any game I've ever played. I mean what's so fun of emptying 100 or so rounds into someone's face before they die and then insta-killing you? Plus they're supposed to be human beings not cyborgs with adamantium armor ffs. The chopper boss battle is a stupid example, because who the fuck wants to shoot at it for more than 2 minutes? Call of Duty had chopper "boss battles" but atleast they've made them fun because you had to get a rocket launcher and just hit it twice.

Just because you can look at the sky forever doesn't make it a good game. You should've shown more ways you can play the game if you really think that there's more than one way to have fun with it. Skipping cutscenes is something that should be in every game, just because this game has it doesn't mean it's good. And this game isn't mindless fun it's boring shooting. And when you showed a picture of Doom while asking if the person likes mindless fun, I'd like to point out that not even doom is mindless fun. When you play it on anything higher than easy the game is very challenging and takes alot of concentration and planning. Admittedly I like the customizable weapon idea but since all the guns have no recoil they all handle the same so there's no difference. And I assume there's no use for shotguns since it seems all the enemies are far away. And shotguns are the only way I can think of making this game fun. It's fine if you enjoy it but don't compare it to doom and don't call this game mindless fun. Because you've obviously never played a game that had genuine mindless fun. I'd suggest bullet storm or saints row IV for mindless fun.

I never pay $60 for a game, a fan of mine actually bought it for me. It took me 18 hours to beat on ultra-violence but depending on how badly you want it, I'd recommend waiting for a price drop. I didn't feel it with the MP though, it was outsourced to another dev but ID reacquired it recently so here's hoping they can fix this.
Nice trolling, this game might have also been named "Call of Fortune". Also the only really good one was the first one, the sequel suffered from bad level design, bugs, bad bullet spread and difficulty spikes. It was a nice gore tech demo tho.
lol, just beat this game for the first time. It's fucking awful and those last few levels are full of instant kill enemies. Horribly balanced with some truly awful boss battles.

Force vsync on trough nvidia the game doesnt lock the frame rate in game nor has a vsync option in the option menu

Love this game. I consider this one of my top favorite Xbox 360 games I ever played (Followed by Secret Service: Courage Under Fire, Saint's Row The Third, and, my #1 favorite game: Earth Defense Force 2025). Also, I think this is one of the few games to feature the Metal Storm series of weapons.
Although I do wonder why this was never released on Steam.

I played Payback when I was younger. It was a fun game. 16 now and I still play games like Payback, SS3, and the original Serious Sam for the original Xbox.

i think not playing sof 1+ 2 was pretty lazy and i think this game isnt very good, but i have empathy for cauldron. you should do a bit of research on that dev studio, pretty sad stuff.

I can't believe you actually praise the boss battles for the sake of having them, they are without a doubt the worst bosses of any game I've ever played. I mean what's so fun of emptying 100 or so rounds into someone's face before they die and then insta-killing you?

he's doing a double take on it, and remember, he hated gamed like this and Bioshock, because he was hot off the heels of the COD MW 1 demo, so he was expecting faster paced game play put of it, but he's changed considerably.
Just because you can look at the sky forever doesn't make it a good game. You should've shown more ways you can play the game if you really think that there's more than one way to have fun with it. There seems to be no challenge to the game since there's no recoil so the core mechanic of shooting is already boring as hell. The only challenge is enimies being in hard to see spots. Skipping cutscenes is something that should be in every game, just because this game has it doesn't mean it's good. And this game isn't mindless fun it's boring shooting. And when you showed a picture of Doom while asking if the person likes mindless fun, I'd like to point out that not even doom is mindless fun. When you play it on anything higher than easy the game is very challenging and takes alot of concentration and planning. Admittedly I like the customizable weapon idea but since all the guns have no recoil they all handle the same so there's no difference. And I assume there's no use for shotguns since it seems all the enemies are far away. And shotguns are the only way I can think of making this game fun. It's fine if you enjoy it but don't compare it to doom and don't call this game mindless fun. Because you've obviously never played a game that had genuine mindless fun. I'd suggest bullet storm or saints row IV for mindless fun.
Completely agree, I can't believe how highly he spoke of this game, it's complete and utter shit and totally deserves it's bad reputation, I find funny that he hates on COD for the same reasons he praises this game.

I never pay $60 for a game, a fan of mine actually bought it for me.
It took me 18 hours to beat on ultra-violence but depending on how badly you want it, I'd recommend waiting for a price drop.
I didn't feel it with the MP though, it was outsourced to another dev but ID reacquired it recently so here's hoping they can fix this.

Nice trolling, this game might have also been named "Call of Fortune". Also the only really good one was the first one, the sequel suffered from bad level design, bugs, bad bullet spread and difficulty spikes. It was a nice gore tech demo tho.
