Meow back to Squeak. New fence addition looks great and hope it works. I noticed Squeak doing her inspection at the video end...glad to see her on the job.
Awesome job and yes very tedious to wire it all the way around. We have a huge garden and we went a little deeper 12 inches and also bent the wire and had a foot (12 inches) away drom the fence so if something did dig they would hit the wire 12 inches down. It was a alot of work...took us the whole weekend lol but followed your design and it works. Thank You for the video...cheers from Canada 😊
If you hadn't immediately shown a video right after saying it I wouldn't have believed you. I can't believe that groundhog actually fit through there. 😂
Great idea to place at bottom of your fencing. I presently have my garden area built with 6 foot high deer fencing and also plan to surround that with fine bird netting on all the fence walls and top of garden to stop birds and squirrels. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your next video.
A great idea with the fence. I keep waiting for you to expand your garden and/or add a bed or two in your current garden area. You should grow onions and carrots if you like them. Hang some gutters on the inside of the garden and grow strawberries or more bush beans. I grow ground cherries after seeing yours. They are delicious and we get around 50 of them a day. Our growing season is about over for now. Then we start over in August and have warm weather crops, cool weather crops, then warm weather crops again. It's great to grow your groceries. Great video. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks.
Wow, those groundhogs were certainly enjoying your ‘all they can eat buffet’ 😋; hopefully you’ve solved the problem of them. Your lovely edible garden looks very tidy and well organised.
Hi BubbleBeet....... Another great video with Squeak stealing the show.....:) I am amazed at the size of those groundhogs that they can squeeze through such a narrow opening. They no doubt love the crops and it is worth every effort for them to push themselves through your fence. Can't say I blame them. hahahaha
i'll add fence to the gate if one discovers that entry. Usually they ignore the front door part of the fence, maybe because its closest to the house. yeah its wild they can squeeze thru :)
Chucks can climb and dig under gates. Best to leave a small opening or two in the fence and set a double door 9x11x24 Comstock cage traps which will catch animals coming and going, no escape. Very simple and easy to catch whatever tries to get into your garden area and end the worries of excluding them, which animals usually find a way to beat over time..
@@BubbleBeet You could actually try a barrier instead, such as pavers along the outside of the fencing, with weed cloth or cardboard underneath. Just a thought.
Groundhogs are crazy, and can both climb over, and dig under. Hopefully not, would have liked an update! I’m in a city, and for the 2nd year in a row, I have groundhogs tunnelling at the base of my house. Last year they even caused part of my driveway to collapse. In the last 6 weeks I haven’t had 2 days straight where I haven’t needed to do damage control. Have grated Irish Spring soap, crushed moth balls, mixed them with a bit of earth and poured it in the hole, then filled it back in. Next day, they’ve dug right through, they aren’t bothered at all. Have repeated many times, thinking it would eventually be toxic enough that it would deter them, but nope 😢 So many suggestions online, but really not much works other than chicken wire. But brick house, don’t want to screw the wire to the parging. Tried duct tape (lol), but it’s pretty much useless. They’re absolutely fixated on my house, and I’m gonna lose it if I can’t find a solution. It may be that having them relocated is the only answer for me, but it’s a potentially pricey option.
I have the same exact issue with them near my foundation. Other ones will occupy or reopen their tunnels. You have to consistently kill them. You can throw bubble gum down their tunnels, they will chew it and die from the chemicals in it. That's really the only way to be proactive against them. I've trapped 1 of 3. Most of them are pretty hard to trap. The other 2 I got with headshots.
Have you had any more problems with the groundhogs since you installed the new fencing? I’m currently in the process of installing the same thing. Thanks!!!

how how to you get into the garden
Please be sure to include video of the ground hog failing to get through after you added the new lower portion.
Karen here what about voles? We've got lots
i havent seen voles yet. maybe because its raised beds they cant get up there. but a tighter fence mesh like hardware cloth might work.
I cannot believe that big animal squeezed thru that tiny hole?!?!
Include 2 strands electric 👍
The best part of your video is your cat.
Try an electric fence
Deer will laugh at your fence. They can jump 7 to 8 feet high. Most other critters will just climb over. But it’s a good start.
