@Joe Vladimirovich Kurosawa I really like the opera scene in FFVI and to see that Square-Enix put a singing voice actor and actress for the Pixel Remaster made me love the game even more if you can get pass the constant lagging. Have you played some of the FFIV hacks on the SNES, like Ultra or Namingway Edition? There's a FFVI SNES rom hack called The Eternal Crystals which adds some FFIV characters and music to the game, which is both silly and hilarious at the same time.

I like that he does that. Some channels I watched closed as they had played the games they wanted to play and didn't want to expand into other games. So it's nice to see other channels re-re-re-replay old title they enjoy so much. Like how many X-Com let's play does Kikoskia have? It's part of the channel's charm.

YAY! So starts another LP of Cecil's quest for redemption. This is my favorite game of all-time (as should be obvious by my icon). I found it nice to play the original version again, only this time with enhanced graphics and an awesome new soundtrack. Having played the DS version and Complete version lately, and then with the introduction of the Free Enterprise randomizer, it took me back to my childhood to play this version again. I am now into a replay of the FFVI PR version, which is also very well done (they all are, actually). Good luck with this LP, HCBailly. I know it will be top tier quality, just like all of your videos are!

Man I love the mini map and how detailed it is, as well as the diagonal walking and the keeping track of the items and treasures in an area.. There's a lot cool little improvements I'm really enjoying, especially since it's my favorite FF game 😁.
The first nice thing I'll say about this version is that they went back to the old logo. It looks better. Also they fortunately fixed that forest-tile glitch, those looked awful upon release

It's basically the tom-ay-to, to-mah-to argument. Both are correct, though the voice acting in later iterations pronounce it as SEH-sil. Your pronunciation is more American, whereas the SEH-sil pronunciation is more British.

I... was really rather underwhelmed by the pixel remaster. I gave it a pass because it's my favorite FF game, but the lack of any bonus content really does hurt it. It's an extremely bare bones version, essentially a translated Super Famicom FF4 with upscaled graphics. I wish we could've gotten a PC/PSN port of FF4CC. That would've been awesome.

I think you're missing the point. It's a pixel "remaster," emphasis on remaster. NOT remake. These were meant to be simply that, a remastering of the ORIGINAL versions of the original 6 Final Fantasy games. Nothing more, nothing less. It's SUPPOSED to be a "translated Super Famicom FF4 with upscaled graphics." That was the whole point of this pixel remaster series, to let players who weren't able to play the original versions of these older games, probably because they weren't born yet, to experience the glory of the beginnings of the series, but with visual and audio enhancements. And I think Squeenix did a very good job of it. If you want to play the remakes, please do. Those also have their place in the series. I myself happen to love the FF4CC version. But these were not meant to be remakes.
I always wondered how they transport crystals in this game. They seem to be much larger than a person yet they can just be handed over and such. What kind of physics are we talking about here?
Visually-speaking, it really looks like FFIV Pixel Remaster is based from FFIV Advance. And it's kinda the same for the translation, specifically at 18:22 with the mention of "goons" and "something awful" (which was also in the Complete Collection - yea, that line has survived for almost 17 years), but without the new names/terminologies from the 3D remake like the Complete Collection did. Content-wise, yes, this is basically vanilla SNES version. Also... now we have three versions of the soundtrack, eh? The original, the 3D arrangement, and the Pixel Remaster. If only Square can give us the option to switch between all these versions in later updates...
The Woolseyism wasn't exactly gone. I mean, FFV Pixel Remaster kept almost all of those silly lines from the Advance translation intact - such as Galuf talking about Bartz getting "PUNished" - although they did tone the silliness down slightly for Pixel Remaster. As for FFVI, yea, the translation is a lot cleaner and accurate despite having less Woolseyism compared to the original SNES translation. Also, Woolsey did not translate the vanilla FFIV on SNES.
21:50 - Yeah, it looks more reminiscent of Celes in FF6. Rosa wore more of a pinkish outfit in other renditions. I guess it’s ok but her sprite could use more detail.

I personally didn't care for the pixel remasters too much, I still think the original SNES and PSP versions looked better, but it's still nice to see HC playing FF4 again.
I didn't know that the king made Cecil become a dark knight, I always thought he was one just because. I also didn't know that Cecil and Rosa were already together in a relationship from the start. I thought she had a crush on him and then it became a relationship later. This is gonna be an interesting LP to learn more of the lore of this game.
I have to admit, it does look really good. I think I can watch it again... XD I've been trying to play the original FF2 for a while now but I keep putting it off at various points, will have to try getting back on it again if I can..
I really Cecil's line about being a Dark Knight in the original script, but it's a bit tricky to translate well. 「この暗黒戦士の姿同様、僕の心も…」 Roughly, "Just like the form of a Dark Knight, my heart too is... dot dot dot." I'd probably put it as something like "My heart is as dark as this armor I wear!" The text they use in this script about "my fate as a dark knight" is a little weird, since it implies that Cecil is being forced to do bad things by darkiness, rather than choosing on his own to do bad things and feeling guilty about it afterwards. I do kind of wish the game gave a little more about what it actually means to be a Dark Knight, though, and if there is something inherently evil about it. Also, I didn't notice it until I transcribed that line, but Cecil uses the "boku" pronoun. I'd always thought of him as a more mature "ore" type, but I guess the writer actually did want to present him as fairly young. Makes his voice acting in the 3D version seem a little more appropriate. Another thing I've kind of wondered about is whether Cecil is actually kind of like an adopted son to the King of Baron or not, since that kind of affects how you read the scene in the throne room. Again, there's a subtlety in the Japanese that's a bit lost in this text. When he says "Kain and I," he uses the conjunction や /ya/, which is kind of like "Kain and I, for example." (As opposed to と /to/, which would be "Kain and I in particular."). So the implication is that the King of Baron had a general habit of taking in orphans (or, as the Japanese text puts it, people who are 身寄りのない /miyori no nai/, "without relatives"), and Cecil and Kain were among those orphans. Rather than that he specifically picked out Cecil and Kain from an orphanage and formally adopted them as members of the royal family, or anything like that. Of course, the SNES translation completely left out that background detail, so later plot developments didn't seem as impactful to him in that version. (Spoiler alert: Cecil had an actual biological father at one time!)
Onto more Final Fantasy IV! 2:31 - 3:06 - Hmm... I remember Super Nintendo version having dialogue in this part. I'm guessing that was added in. 8:12 - Bomb ring, certainly the most harmless of items.
You're correct. The dialog during the Mysidia flashback was not in the SFC original, but both the SNES version and the Japanese "Easy Type" version added it.
Sadly I do not share any memories about FF4, that was the one FF I did not play... For the last 10 years or so, when I saw HC with another FFIV I was sad because this is his favoruite ff game, and as it is with every ff4 lp "now I need to wait" :) few months to the next lp hopefully about a game I have played :) There are less and less of these that left "unlped" :) I will watch some episodes, It is always nice to have something from HC, but I am bitter about FF4 knowing I will probably not play it, the best times for that have ended ;)

I'm doing FF7 in active mod, my boss battles are so fast the music don't have time to loop when you have already meteorain at the second boss of the game. :) I like to laught like Lord Frieza.
I Looked Around And It Says That They Made The "Drop Rates" For Those "Rare Summon Drops"(Goblin, Cockratrice, Bomb, And Mind Flayer) A "Little Higher" But Still Pretty Low. Again, Not Sure If This Is True Or Not, Though. Also, "Bomb" Summon Items Are NOT Dropped From "Bombs" And "Gray Bombs". I'm Not Sure What The "Exact" Drop Rate Is For Them. 5% Or 10%?
That is correct. They switched around the spells with the lowest drop rate (1/64) and the next lowest (11/64), as well as with the Pink Tail. However, the game still does a check to access the drop table (15/256) in the first place, so it's still (15/256)*(11/64) a pretty terrible drop rate.

Speaking Of The "Pink Tail", Those "Weapons" The "Blood Sword" AND The "Blood Lance" Actually "Have A Use" So You "May" Want To Consider "Keeping Those"(And Not "Sell" Them). Since You Know About The "Fat Chocobo" That's Where You Can "Store" Those. Those Weapons DEAL 4X DMG Against Those "Flan Princesses" In The "2D Versions"(Which I "Think" Would "Include" This Version As Well) And It Will Keep "Cecil" AND "Kain" Both Fully Healed As They Constantly Attack. Something A LOT Of People "Often OverLook" With Those "2 Weapons".
They should've kept the translation as "Carnelian Signet". Even if they were trying to go for a "faithful" translation, "Bomb Ring" just ruins the immersion.
I feel like this translation is a step back from the DS and PSP. I'm pretty sure it's copy-pasted from the GBA/PSX translation they've been using for 20 years.
HCBailly - I highly recommend you check out FFIV Ultima, it's a ROM Hack of FFIV but it's very well done, I know it's not an official release but I think you should check it out and do a run of it since you are a big fan of the game. I'm sure you've heard of it at the very least.

I didn't know that the king made Cecil become a dark knight, I always thought he was one just because. I also didn't know that Cecil and Rosa were already together in a relationship from the start. I thought she had a crush on him and then it became a relationship later. This is gonna be an interesting LP to learn more of the lore of this game.

I really Cecil's line about being a Dark Knight in the original script, but it's a bit tricky to translate well. 「この暗黒戦士の姿同様、僕の心も…」 Roughly, "Just like the form of a Dark Knight, my heart too is... dot dot dot." I'd probably put it as something like "My heart is as dark as this armor I wear!"
The text they use in this script about "my fate as a dark knight" is a little weird, since it implies that Cecil is being forced to do bad things by darkiness, rather than choosing on his own to do bad things and feeling guilty about it afterwards. I do kind of wish the game gave a little more about what it actually means to be a Dark Knight, though, and if there is something inherently evil about it.
Also, I didn't notice it until I transcribed that line, but Cecil uses the "boku" pronoun. I'd always thought of him as a more mature "ore" type, but I guess the writer actually did want to present him as fairly young. Makes his voice acting in the 3D version seem a little more appropriate.
Another thing I've kind of wondered about is whether Cecil is actually kind of like an adopted son to the King of Baron or not, since that kind of affects how you read the scene in the throne room. Again, there's a subtlety in the Japanese that's a bit lost in this text. When he says "Kain and I," he uses the conjunction や /ya/, which is kind of like "Kain and I, for example." (As opposed to と /to/, which would be "Kain and I in particular."). So the implication is that the King of Baron had a general habit of taking in orphans (or, as the Japanese text puts it, people who are 身寄りのない /miyori no nai/, "without relatives"), and Cecil and Kain were among those orphans. Rather than that he specifically picked out Cecil and Kain from an orphanage and formally adopted them as members of the royal family, or anything like that.
Of course, the SNES translation completely left out that background detail, so later plot developments didn't seem as impactful to him in that version. (Spoiler alert: Cecil had an actual biological father at one time!)

You're correct. The dialog during the Mysidia flashback was not in the SFC original, but both the SNES version and the Japanese "Easy Type" version added it.

Sadly I do not share any memories about FF4, that was the one FF I did not play... For the last 10 years or so, when I saw HC with another FFIV I was sad because this is his favoruite ff game, and as it is with every ff4 lp "now I need to wait" :) few months to the next lp hopefully about a game I have played :) There are less and less of these that left "unlped" :) I will watch some episodes, It is always nice to have something from HC, but I am bitter about FF4 knowing I will probably not play it, the best times for that have ended ;)

I'm doing FF7 in active mod, my boss battles are so fast the music don't have time to loop when you have already meteorain at the second boss of the game. :) I like to laught like Lord Frieza.
I Looked Around And It Says That They Made The "Drop Rates" For Those "Rare Summon Drops"(Goblin, Cockratrice, Bomb, And Mind Flayer) A "Little Higher" But Still Pretty Low. Again, Not Sure If This Is True Or Not, Though. Also, "Bomb" Summon Items Are NOT Dropped From "Bombs" And "Gray Bombs". I'm Not Sure What The "Exact" Drop Rate Is For Them. 5% Or 10%?
That is correct. They switched around the spells with the lowest drop rate (1/64) and the next lowest (11/64), as well as with the Pink Tail. However, the game still does a check to access the drop table (15/256) in the first place, so it's still (15/256)*(11/64) a pretty terrible drop rate.

Speaking Of The "Pink Tail", Those "Weapons" The "Blood Sword" AND The "Blood Lance" Actually "Have A Use" So You "May" Want To Consider "Keeping Those"(And Not "Sell" Them). Since You Know About The "Fat Chocobo" That's Where You Can "Store" Those. Those Weapons DEAL 4X DMG Against Those "Flan Princesses" In The "2D Versions"(Which I "Think" Would "Include" This Version As Well) And It Will Keep "Cecil" AND "Kain" Both Fully Healed As They Constantly Attack. Something A LOT Of People "Often OverLook" With Those "2 Weapons".
They should've kept the translation as "Carnelian Signet". Even if they were trying to go for a "faithful" translation, "Bomb Ring" just ruins the immersion.

So I guess you won't be making use of the Slow status for this LP since, at least last time I checked, it was bugged and didn't seem to work.
It got heavily nerfed in this version, probably for the best. It was way too powerful before Pixel.

HCBailly - I highly recommend you check out FFIV Ultima, it's a ROM Hack of FFIV but it's very well done, I know it's not an official release but I think you should check it out and do a run of it since you are a big fan of the game. I'm sure you've heard of it at the very least.
I'd actually love it if you did the entire PR collection. 1, 2, and 3 look loads better than the NES version.
I'm hoping they bring it to the super Nintendo as a SNES Hack great game.
