I'm considering pursuing a similar IR compressor I see for sale locally that is stated to not be in working condition. The issue is supposed to be the motor and not the compressor. The thing I've been hung up on is transporting it home since the specs seem indicate it's about 600 pounds and it being so top heavy I'm not sure how that will handle loaded and strapped down in a trailer, leading me to think taking the motor and compressor off might be a better way to transport it. Since you took off the compressor pump and mentioned it was a bit ungraceful to get put back on top how heavy was it and did you single handedly lift it back into place or was it a multi person task?

Question. Im looking at a used 80 Gallon CH air compressor with a tf061903av pump. The oil in the pump looks good. The electric motor is being rebuilt as they over greased the bearings, so I cant run it to ensure it works. When I spin the pump I can hear it compressing air but then I hear air either coming out/in of the oil plug vent which is almost a pvc valve. is this normal?

Man do I feel like an idiot, I never knew there was such a thing as an automatic air drain!......I guess I’ve never thought of looking for one either, just turn the valve every few days and drain mine.

Haha, I don't think an auto drain is something that would be all that common in either light industrial or home shop use. They are meant for high use, high volume units (this one came out of a car wash) that need to be drained more than once per day.

mmrbeef I think it’d be handy as ever just so a guy wouldn’t have to crouch down and drain it, my shop tends to get humid in the summer so I’m draining mine quite often.

Can you show how to tension the belt? Mine is slipping a bit on startup

Tension is normally controlled by the motor mounts. Loosen the bolts and pull the belt tight. (Normally)

@@mmrbeef got it, I must need a new belt, because I've done that and it still makes noise on startup

What are the specs on the motor? I bought the same compressor but its missing the motor lol

There are several different motors for these that I have seen over the years. I know this one is 5hp and single phase. There is also a 7.5hp 3 phase type. I’ll try and remember to get the rpm specs at some point in the next few days.
