I think a huge reason was Techno for sure. Dude was carrying the DSMP on his back after 2020, things just weren't enjoyable for me after he passed away. Still miss the guy every day, RIP
I wouldn't say it had much of a downfall, it achieved it's purpose of a fun SMP until the players themselves got bored, the finale was still massive, and it ended
