    I love EPP. I made a charm quilt using half hexes. They were finished 1" by 1/2". There were 3500 pieces in the top. It was all by hand. I did have it machine quilted because of all the seams. All the quilts i made were all by hand, quilting also.

    I love the idea of having another evening project while watching a movie at home! I don't like to sit and just stare at the screen. I usually embroider or crochet, but adding a sewing project to the mix is a wonderful idea!!

    I don't usually make comments but today I will! Your enthusiasm for everything you do is contagious! I KNOW I can do anything you teach, because you make me believe I can. You are a great teacher and absolutely adorable. Thank you for all the free tutorials you do, the beautiful fabric choices which I try and copy, and the wonderful projects you come up with.

    Conditioning thread with a quick run through a piece of beeswax prevents thread tangling.

    Hi! Just joined. I love your video. I have been doing epp for about 6 months off and on with other quilting projects. My current is the Tula Nova. I think I picked a tough first project. But, I’m loving epp. Thanks for so much great info.

    I never thought I would be interested in EPP until I saw the tutorial by Tula Pink last night and how she makes those amazing designs. I’m so excited to see your tutorials on how to get started, and your using Tula products, too. Ha, I need to buy some glasses … one of the reason I haven’t enjoyed hand sewing. I’ve learned so much from your tutorials. Thank you!! It looks like you have done well with your business and marketing. Congratulations on your successful company, Erica.

    Very happy to see that you’re enjoying EPP! I’ve been doing EPP for a little over a year. Here’s some things I’ve learned: Elmer’s glue purple stick works fine and is super cheap, however I don’t totally glue baste. I use a swipe to hold my template on and then I sew baste, and totally love that part. I use mostly hedges, currently working on a 3/4 inch hexie quilt, and I punch my own with a Fiskars punch. Old calendars are nice to use. When I first started I was using a Milliners needles, since then I use a John James #10 Goldeye.
    Enjoy, EPP is super relaxing! I have already made my cat a little quilt and now working on a smaller one for myself. 😊

    I like the idea of using scrap bits and no particular pattern, but I think I might try the suggestion of ordering a kit from Etsy, just to try it… The idea of all that thinking through a design and color plan, and purchasing special material for it….kind of hurts my head!🥴🤣
    Edited to add:I also use the gray thread that Kate from homely house channel uses as I never know what color I will grab or what item of clothing from grandkids or myself will die a clothing use death!…Also I watched a guy’s video ( Dave’s craft room?)… where he used all sorts of fabrics from his trips around the world for work and bought fabric from every trip for a fabulous memory quilt 👍)

    Hi Erica - I love making hexi flowers. They are so much fun and relaxing to do. I eventually want to make a Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt. For now, I’m just enjoying making each little flower. I’m making a new crossbody bag that I’m adding a hexi flower to the outside.
    I also use that glue and I love it. Looking forward to your next videos on EPP. Your Tula quilt is looking gorgeous. Enjoy stitching! 💕🧵

    I’ve been EPP for a while now and have noted:
    I no longer use Aurafil cotton thread, it snaps way too easily. I recommend using a poly 60+ thread, it doesn’t snap and is thinner which means you see less on the front.
    Spend the extra money on the Sewline glue sticks, I tried Fons &Pot and it is far too hard to work with.

    Great video and very timely for me. I've just started EPP but I use the iron on templates from Hugs n kisses. They are probably more challenging for a beginner than the card stock templates but I figure if I learn with these, then I will improve and get used to them. Thanks for another interesting and informative tutorial.

    Erica - I just found your epp #1 video. I'm just starting to try epp and wondered if you can use batting (cut to shape) next to the fabric and then add the cardboard shape on top before gluing the fabric down? I want to make a small quilt and figure that when all ready, I could just remove the cardboard shape and add a backing. Would this work?

    • @erica_arndt
      @erica_arndt  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hmmm...I've never done it that way, but I suppose you could? But I'm thinking it might make the piece a little bulky and maybe even wonky with the extra bulk in there? I would try it on something small and see if it works.

      @DB-oz9bb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Too thick for EPP

    • @kara1084
      @kara1084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could try thread basting instead of glue basting. Hand quilting thread would be nice for thread basting hexagons (EPP basting is when you temporarily attach the fabric to the paper)

    • @kara1084
      @kara1084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh and many people use multiple color threads but many don’t. You can generally use a beige/grey for light fabrics and a brownish grey for dark fabrics. Aurifil moon dust in 50 weight is my current favorite for sewing medium to light color fabrics for EPP.

    • @erica_arndt
      @erica_arndt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sorry, that would be too thick for EPP. I usually use that for hand-quilting as an accent on my quilts, or just some decorative stitching around the outside of a small piece like in this video: th-cam.com/video/-AjZzL2Cx08/w-d-xo.html
