Love the update and your enthusiasm for your work. Makes me want to go install the new lighting I got for my workshop 4 months ago !!!
Thanks Shane. I appreciate your feedback. You’re Too funny, 4 months wait sounds about right to me. It’s such a cool and easy upgrade that makes a huge difference.
Lots of work doing a big makeover like that but how sweet it will be in the end and you have the added benefit of getting rid of things you no longer need and just some general cleaning
Thanks Guy. I totally agree. It’s already been such an awesome shop remodel and I’ve only built a few jobs since.
Nice job David! All the updates look great…thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot Jeff. I appreciate it.
You are going to enjoy using the slider to cut sheet goods. May want to consider investing in the Felder FAT 300 work table to help with moving sheet goods to the slider.
Thanks for sharing. It’s funny you mention this as I actually purchased a panel carrier. It will be in a future video.
Just subscribed and I am excited to see how the work flow makes you more efficient. My main shop is 11.5 by 29 and after 2 years I am thinking of blowing it up and redoing it.
Awesome Matt. Thanks for subscribing to my channel. It sounds like you are going to get a lot from my content. I hope so. Thanks again.
That saw is gorgeous! Can't wait to see you fire it up on the channel!
How deep is your miter saw station? I started mine (2 cabinets) with cheap plywood (pine ACX) and it's was definitely a mistake, I'll be changing those cabinets for sure. I'd like to be able to accomodate either a Kapex or a Makita sliding miter saw, as well as a Kreg Foreman, which is why I am asking.
Thanks a lot SeBM Studio. My miter saw wall unit is 30.5 deep cabinetry with 34.5” deep counters. My setup was designed around the dewalt as you’ve seen I’m sure in my older videos. The kapex fits great also. Just a few mods that I showed in a video.
Very nice saw, do you think a small sliding table saw with a 60 or 72” cross cut capacity should be sufficient for a staring cabinet making garage shop?
Thanks a lot. Let me say this, if I couldn’t have a full 8 ft slider, i woukd just keep my previous cabinet saw setup. It was terrific. If you’ve seen my videos, you’ll know what I’m talking about. If you work with small projects mainly, then a short stroke saw might be okay. But if you work with full sheets of plywood regularly, I’d not get a short stroke saw. But there is a big but, if you don’t have anything currently, and are in the market for a saw to start, then I’d consider a short stroke saw that maybe does shaper operations too and maybe a planer and jointer. All in one. If your space isn’t big. You can use a short stroke saw as a cabinet saw basically if you take off the squaring fence. Then if you need to make certain cuts like cross cutting items to length then you could use your fence again. Having a dado capability is of utmost importance to me as I use dado joinery every job. So I’d recommend that too. Most newer saws have that.
Thanks for the video, I have been wanting to paint my excalibur overarm dust collector guard black to match my sawstop are you having any problem with it sliding in and out? Mine seems tight I did wax it but wondering if a extra layer of paint would make it harder to move. It's new to me a craigslist find of my own. Thanks Mike
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching the video. It’s a very tight fit to reassemble everything after the painting. But it does work quite well. I put quite a bit of paint in and clear coats so it’s pretty durable. But really it’s all about the prep work. As all I’ll ways. As o showed in the videos, I had to sand the plastic ring that goes on the smaller pipe. It wouldn’t go on otherwise. Also the hood mount was tight but I got it on also. I find it very rewarding to see my saw with custom colors on it and the saw guard. Is yours the model like mine or fixed mount?
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore thanks for responding mine is fixed I paid a $100 for it on Craigslist I couldn't resist, I just did a few test cuts that's it, I hope I'm ok with the fact that it is stationary. I did find your video of your assembling it after painting.
Thanks again
@@michaelmilton4427 you’ll love it. I’ve seen those too and they work well. In fact another viewer commented on buying a fixed one as well. That’s funny. I’m really glad people are finding these videos. That’s awesome.
I’m in the process of re-configuring my shop and I’m looking around to try to be as open minded as possible and I just watched your earlier videos about how you set up your shop. I am very surprised that you abandoned your assembly table since it was such a core aspect of your shop. What do you plan to do with regard to assembly?
Ps because my shop is in a 20 x 22 2 car garage with a 8’2” ceiling it’s crazy making to set up. The floor is whacked and the ceiling is open framed hip to a single center point with 4 sides. One thing I did to brighten it up without loading down the ceiling with drywall is using Tyvek on the sloped surfaces of the roof. Of course it be great if the space were bigger or if I could raise the trusses but it’s not practical. The slider is great. I picked up a panel saw recently figuring it would conserve space.
Hi there. Thanks for the great comments. To be frank, as I mention in my videos, it was a very hard thing to do- get a new slider- because of this very thing. But after careful consideration, I managed to figure out a way to make it work. Funny how things work out when great opportunities come up. When I got the saw, I had to figure it out. It’s still going to be mainly the same setup as you’ll see in the coming videos. Just a little different than it was. It’s working very well.
@@crownmoldingbyspectaculart941 I can imagine setting up shop in there would be interesting. The floor is so important but lighting is too, isn’t it. Good idea on the tyvek house wrap. The garage seems pretty cool though. Good luck with it. And the panel saw, doesn’t that require a lot of room against the wall?
you think you'll keep the kapex? slider seems like it would take care of everything.
I’ve heard people say that they don’t use their miter saws anymore, but I can’t see that as an efficient option. I mean the miter saw is so important to me- cutting crown nested is one thing but just for everyday use, it’s much faster and easier to use. I’ll never get rid of it in the shop.
Maybe the camera doesn’t show it, but can you get a full stroke out of that slider without it hitting the wall? Thx
Yes but It’s very close. I’ll show you how it all works In the next couple episodes.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore sounds good, I’ll be watching! 👍🏻. Is your slider a 10’ bed?
@@tundrawhisperer4821 awesome. Yes it is. 10.5ft.
