How to do EMDR Therapy when the client is still in a related threat situation

THANK YOU been searching for something similar to my circumstances bc after my 2nd therapy appointment, she recommended we conduct EMDR for the 12 week course.
I was wondering if it's necessary for therapist to know i need a therapy exercise that's relevant to my past situation being a current one
