My mother was a poet and a machinest. she was a silent generation woman raised on stoicism, the gasoline of Gregory corso and the Picasso of Gertrude stein. I've listened to Gregory read but this was different and more impersonal and it hit harder. I think I got something I never got before. She died 20 years ago. 20.
First year poetry class, university. Thursday night, essay on Corso due on Friday. Left for home, and a night of writing, but decided to stop for a coffee in the cafe Cafiends. I opened my bag, empty. My copy of Corso's poetry left in the library. SHIT! Some bum came over and sat next to me. I bought him a coffee. He asked me why I looked so unhappy. I told him. My book's in the library. He asked me what book. I told him. He smiled. And pulled out a copy, put it on the table, and left.

It says in the Bible that Angels walk on Mamma Earth disguised as humans. That's probably what happened .
Maybe that was Corso.

That story of finding his mother, the real one, is great. That is a story worth pursuing. Thanks James for another new introduction.
