Series X for $350 and Series S for $150 is nuts. I enjoy my Series X a lot, because my gaming laptop runs hot and loud, and I enjoy Game Pass and the backwards compatibility catalog.
It's not unheard of for a console to drop by $100 after 3 years on the market. Until recently, when mid-cycle updates became a thing, I feel like that was the norm.
However, you're forgetting one key point. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox, though they have been out for three or more years, they haven't been in the hands of the consumer for that long, or the average consumer. Most gamers could not pick them up because most of them were hijacked. For the first time ever, in large quantities by scalpers. Unless you had money and were willing to spend out, chances are you did not get a PlayStation 5. Or even an Xbox Series X. So this generation, to be honest with you, just started. Most game companies didn't bother to even make exclusive games for these consoles until really the end of 2022 and 2023. Everything was made for the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One. The few titles that did release in 2022 were honestly either crap or they're basically titles that performed very well. I mean, at this point, it's not a problem to pick up a PlayStation 5. But more than two years ago, nearly impossible. And even most of 2022, it was still very difficult.
@@HisShadowX the amount of consoles getting out to consumers doesn't really effect the MSRP. There is likely an update coming next year for the series X, but more likely is Microsoft has gotten the manufacturing costs down enough over time to offer a discounted price. They could also justify a loss with potential earnings from Game Pass recurring revenue.
@@DaBigCheeso So you're thinking about this in a logical way and as a gamer where things make sense, but what you have to understand, Xbox as a company does things that don't make sense at the corporate level because executives may not like something that actually works, or they don't want to spend the extra money here and there. Remember, regardless of how the 360 was perceived, the 360 was dominating even after all the red rings of death. And believe me, I had plenty of consoles that were Xbox 360s that ended up getting the red rings. But they made some horrible decisions that many see as greedy towards the end, well, actually towards the middle and then the end of that console generation, and it hurt them to the point where I don't think until today, they haven't recovered. Remember, an executive at any point in time could decide, okay, we're going to Xbox Gaming Pass only and everything is going to be streamed. Most people still don't have the internet capabilities to be able to stream games 24-7 like that. We could have an executive who wants studios that they bought and owned to make useless games that appeal to everyone and they end up appealing to no one. I could see that happening too. Look at what they did to Starfield as the biggest example of that. I was in the camp where I knew the Xbox One was going to fail, and as soon as Microsoft bought out very good gaming companies, they were looking like they were going to dominate the end of this console generation because of all the exclusive games that are coming down the line for the Xbox. But again, after seeing Starfield, okay, this is Microsoft doing what they do best as usual with ruining things.

We're getting to the end of 2023 so I think they are trying to clear out what ever they have left from this year. It also could be a holiday sale to help out with making room for whatever they have next.

Companies that don't do as well as the competition always give the biggest discounts. I don't think they're planning to exit the console scene at all in the near future. I think they're willing to cut their profits on console hardware or even make a loss to get people to buy them and subscribe to Gamepass. They also clearly want a digital only future where they make even more money on all of the games. EDIT: I wish they looked more at the competition and back to what made them so great during the 360 era. Great (exclusive) games without all the online bullshit. Discs that have full games on them. No forced online activation element that will turn a lot of their consoles into paperweights one day.
@sonicck I mean, I'm even satisfied with MOST of my Xbox1. Definitely not all, though, as I feel it's stupid to say "hey buy this disc, THEN download the same disc you bought when you could've bought digital to begin with." I prefer discs, so most of them having to be downloaded pissed me off, but otherwise, it's been a nice experience.
1) The discs have the "Full" game on it BUT you basically cannot play it from the game. The game is basically a transfer media. 2) The reason why the price tanked is because they are trying to do something to stop the scalpers. They buy up everything then sell it for more then double the price. 3) I just got mines today. I'm excited for Christmas this year.
@@Restrictted if you're referring to the fact that you have to install the disc, it's because the transfer speeds of the disc drive are too low. Running games from discs was fine for a lot of games during the 360 era cause back then we didn't have high resolution textures and stuff (and even back then optionally installing the disc made games load faster). Provided the full game is on disc, you own your physical media just as much today as back then. It's just that today you have to activate your Xbox online with a MS account before it can be used. Games on disc will work fully offline with an internet check provided the full game is on there.

It could be due to the reports of people not really holiday shopping because there werent real deals This is a real deal and could compel cost concisous people to buy it over the ps5 especially considering the proced put it within striking distance of the switch oled and switch lite
I've seen the xbox series x drop down to 349.99 on Amazon and Walmart every other week. I managed to grab one at this price. I think it's a super solid deal. It might be that they are not selling as fast and have more stock than they would like on hand and would like to move out some quantities and at the same time make room to move on to a new system in the near future.
I got a series s earlier this year from Verizon for $150. It was such an insane deal I couldn’t pass it up. I honestly had no interest in even getting one before that. It’s a nice system for sure if you can get a good deal and don’t care about the best specs. Playing the smaller games and indie stuff on there from game pass is a treat.

The customer probably found some Xbox games that the customer cannot play on the PlayStation 5, the Ultimate Gamepass subscription is a no-brainer since the customer is saving tons of money for playing games without paying 60 dollars for each game as long as the customer pays $46/year to remain a Gamepass member. As you know, a lot of people own both the Xbox and Playstation systems to play all of the games available on each console. As I mentioned before, Microsoft bought out corrupt Activision Blizzard which will result Microsoft placing an additional hundreds of extra games on the Gamepass in the years to come.
I bought a used Series X in March for $400 that came with 2 controllers, 4 games, an RGB stand, and of course the HDMI cable and power cord. The controllers came with rechargeable battery packs.
I actually passed up that series s deal for $150 and now I feel guilty about it. LOL. I have such a backlog of switch and playstation games, and I don't think I'll ever get to the series S if I ever got one. Also, I don't see myself paying for gamepass every month to not play. It's just not meant to be. 😭
I just ordered an XBox series x on amazon for 399EUR. They even offered the amazon 0% financing and for 79/month i couldn't resist. It'll be my first console since the Wii in 2007, so I'm really excited. I think your estimation is spot on though...they'll slowly clear out stock using the discount and maybe get a slight push in overall sales (i mean it's 150 less than a PS5!) , and start introducing the new hardware options in mid to late 2024. I was aware of the situation before placing my order, saw the leaks. Still went with it, because just like you said, if anything, my Series X will at least have a disc drive and i don't think the console will be obsolete graphically until at least 2026.
Been a huge Xbox fan since the OG Halo 2 XBL days on the original Xbox. I also am huge on physical copy of games. Really hoping the next Xbox is not only digital.

This has a lot more to do with the increased high interest rates from the fed and folks not having a lot of disposable income. Microsoft sees an inroads for increased sales and they are taking it.

to me they needed to be all digital from the start of the series x release .......... the days of putting in a game and not needing internet is over! its been over since the ps4 and xbox one release and even towards the end of the 360 days. you have to update and install games when get them anyways and on top of that these devlopers always shut sevres down for multiplayer games online so really its been all digital in a way

And I do believe physical media is something one demand besides that it needs to be protected, reason why physical games still make a lot and I mean A LOT of money. Seems more than likely Microsoft is clearing stock for new hardware or making the Xbox priced for impulse buying. If they do go the route of new hardware they better start supporting m2 SSD or significantly reduce the price for their memory cards.
I think they are clearing out inventory for the mid gen refresh probably coming by next holidays. I don’t think it’s a next gen system not yet I don’t see a next gen system until 2027/2028 at the earliest. I think Phil even said that’s when they expect next gen to start
There will be no Xbox mid gen refresh except for the digital machine which will have same specs as series x just faster WiFi and usb c port and haptic controller.
I can’t see how these ceos for either Xbox or PS wouldn’t make their new pro to have come out the same time as GTA6 people would gladly drop $600-700 for 60fps GTA 6 and I’m not even a huge rockstar fan but business wise seems smart

A few days ago, I was able to get a Brand New Diablo Edition Bundle for $349 from Walmart. It is definitely more powerful than my Xbox One X Console. I was surprised that it was $349, and I didn't wanna miss the opportunity. It is worth every penny! I am not an Xbox fanboy, I still have my PS4 that I still play, but going to skip the PS5 this time around and will see what both of these companies do for their next console like they did with XBOX One X or PS4 Pro.
I’m considering getting an Xbox series but but I’m not liking the direction they’re going with what I’m hearing about the next mid gen refresh of the Xbox series X being all digital only plus I’m happy with my Nintendo Switch and I will probably skip both PlayStation Xbox and stick with Nintendo as I’ve never had so much fun as I have had with my switch.

You can bet Sony will follow too since all physical game requires internet to apply patches, dlc, and other content missing from the incomplete game. It has been this way since 2014.

I was going to get a series s but that $350 won me over. I wanted one to supplement my ps5 and I wanted it for a game pass machine. Game pass is an extraordinary deal, and it will get better with the Activision acquisition.
Yeah, i'd def always recommend Series X over the Series S to most people. If you can afford it no problem, its a great console & yes, the perfect 'Game Pass machine'.
The backwards compatibility of the Xbox series. X definitely is making me considerate as a companion to my switch but to be honest I’m happy with my switch and don’t feel that there’s anything on Xbox. I want maybe outside of Hogwarts, Legacy and Starfield I certainly I’m not interested in game pass.
I bought my Series X for $350 two weeks ago! I flew out that house when I saw the segment on our local news....😂 I bought around 30 native Series X games, and already had over 120 Series X/Xbox One games. Making over 150 games for it already. I decided not to open my console until Xmas morning....😂 I ordered from Walmart, but since my location ran out of the Diablo version, the gave me the standard one! I was cool with that, especially since that version was still $500!!
I just got the series X here in Calgary for 500$ Canadian with diablo 4 and I have game pass already. Compared to the 1800$ I spent on my pc and having to buy every game the Series X is more than capable and can match my pcs performance at 4K easily. The console is a great buy so I’m surprised by the lack of success
I just got Series X for $599 on sale in Canada in August which seemed like a steal. But now I'm shook at the $100 price drop ($150 from normal price). I've always been a PC/Mac gamer and had no interest in consoles but needed to upgrade my mac soon and a friend told me to get a Series X. I think the problem with sales is that most average consumers who aren't gamers have no idea which Xbox is which because of the naming. My friend told me about getting an Xbox and I looked up and found Series X, S, 360, One, One X etc... it was SUPER confusing for me and I had to spend a week researching the differences before buying. But with Playstation they are all just numbered 1-5. Easy peasy and everybody knows about them because of this. I think if Xbox had just named their consoles 1, 2, 3, etc they would have sold more.

Well I’m a PlayStation guy. But I seen the series X on sale for 350$ at Walmart and could not pass that deal up considering the Series X and PS5 are neck and neck with eachother in performance. While the PS5 is still 500$. And honestly I gotta say, I do enjoy my Series X even if it does lack the games and other modern features that the PS5 has. I really do like it. It’s a great secondary console to my PS5. And I’ve found myself playing all my Single player games on Xbox and using my PS5 to play all the multiplayer games as all my friends own a PS5 and I’m just more used to the PlayStation controller so that’s what I opt for in a competitive multiplayer game. But anyways my thoughts on why the console is on sale is probably just due to the fact that it’s the Holliday season and one of Microsoft’s main focus on Xbox is gamepass and selling Xbox consoles on sale for 100-200$ off would make the console more appealing so it puts more consoles in homes so people can buy gamepass. And this strategy worked as it got me to buy a Series X and the first thing I did when I got my Xbox was buy gamepass

I normally purchase both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, this generation I didn’t purchase an Xbox, there was nothing I couldn’t play on my Xbox one x , now there are a few games but nothing that is making me want the system at all. I can get most of the games on my ps5. I love that it is backwards compatible but I have that with my Xbox one x.

Honestly consoles should be cheaper by now its been three years this is the first generation that hasn’t had a price drop, shameful that the industry has made people forget so quickly also games used to drop is price remember those cool times.
Going to a scalper was your first problem. But I get it, lots of us had fomo early on in the pandemic & thought we all needed the new hardware asap. Kinda funny to see how much I didn't need my PS5 in the first few years either. (since most of their big games were cross-gen)
The Series consoles are reportedly selling worse than the One console. Meanwhile PS5 is outselling PS4. You don’t really have to look much further than that to know why these consoles are heavily discounted. PS5 is selling strong at full price so they have no incentive to lower the price. It’s like the One being down to $350 with Halo MCC bundled in meanwhile PS4 with no bundle was outselling 2 to 1 at $400. People don’t want an Xbox. They want a PlayStation.
So, this has been my assessment of Xbox for the past five years, and I still believe I'm correct in RGT. I think here you are a little wrong. So, do I think the Xbox is going to do well? I think the Xbox, this generation at least, is going to pull off a PS3 moment where they started at a low point, but they finished very well. The reason being is, as we all know, Xbox 360s were defective. That upset a lot of people as that generation went on, even though the Xbox 360 started very strong. It was very consumer-friendly. It ended in a way that pushed on Kinect, which no one liked, and various other issues. Now, moving forward, once we get to the PS4 generation, as you all know, the Xbox One had a horrible launch with online only, but the PlayStation 4 honestly had some various issues as well, not as much as the Xbox One. And as for this generation, you have barely any exclusives, and now the exclusives that the Xbox is going to get in terms of buying out Obsidian as well as the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, they could finish this generation very well, but the problem now that has me second-guessing whether or not Xbox will finish this generation very good is the fact that executives over at Microsoft often don't know what they're doing, and sometimes make decisions that end up hurting their own brand over time. For example, a lot of studios that Microsoft bought ended up shutting down. Worse yet, there was a lot of interesting projects from Lionhead that were shut down because Microsoft did not want to invest in the technology. And we're hearing rumors now that of course Microsoft is looking to go all digital. So there's a chance that all these studios Microsoft bought out, there's nothing going to come of it. Think about it. Every single studio Microsoft has bought out over the years, they've howled out those studios and they're nothing more. And also trust is also a major thing with Microsoft. Anyone who owned any games for Windows Live are now currently screwed out of the games that they purchased. But if you purchased games over Steam around the same time, you still have your purchases currently.
Depends on how many games you play on a regular basis...calculate it like that, and you'll have your answer....what I mean by that is, there are several factors to consider... A series s has a small SSD... Any AAA games you plan to play will likely fill up that drive after 2 or 3 games you download. if you buy it and then buy an official SSD that $150 easily turns into $350...at which point you can just as easily get a series x for the same amount... if you go for a regular SSD, sure you may save some money that way if you're ok with moving series games back and forth, but again, how far away would you be from the $350 price point that will give you the same options...and more?🤔...for further perspective, I picked up 2 series games for $15 last week at GameStop...could you do that with a series s?...no.😜

@@talhashah you could do that but if you're solely relying on gamepass just know that they raised the price and you'll be paying monthly or yearly for gamepass. At some point you'll be paying more for a game on gamepass by subscribing to it than you would buying it flat out...but that's my thinking cause I made those calculations relative to the amount of time it takes me to finish a game... some people don't care about finishing a game as long as they get to play it, so gamepass works fine for those people...not me, I take my time with games and I have to finish it before moving on to another, so gamepass is not an incentive for me which is why I rarely subscribe to gamepass. I only do when they offer $1 sales from time to time. As a sidenote, gamepass and PlayStation's big games are also available on PC so if you already have one that is also an option....I don't have a PS5, but I picked up a mini PC for $350 last year and got spiderman remastered for $15.

They are being smart doing this. It removes stock of the older models, preparing for the revised editions, and it provides a cheaper entry into the ecosystem. PS5 will probably see another price hike...

Just got an Xbox series X for 383 after tax at Walmart. So happy with this purchase, I sold my series S for 160 and a couple other things to get the $223.
The only "doom and gloom" thing to me is whenever I here "discless" console. Sony's done it, and now Microsoft is doing it. This is a brief transitional period. Right now we have a choice, but soon we won't. This isn't limited to video games either, physical media of every kind is going away because they no longer sell enough to bother producing them. I get it, digital is convenient, often cheaper (sometimes a LOT cheaper), and doesn't take up space on your selves. It really seems like the way to go, which is why most people have made the switch. But this is a big mistake that I think people will end up regretting later on when it's too late. Anything you buy digitally can be taken away from you at any time, and you don't even get any of your money back. You could have a digital game for 25 years, then one day you try to play it and find out that it's no longer available for whatever reason. It just happened with Sony removing well over 1,000 movies and shows over some licensing issue. Consider it a warning, people.
I feel it's holiday related. My walmart had the following sales last week: xbox s for $149, xbox x w/ diablo 4 for $299, smash bros oled switch bundle for $199, and ps5 disc w/spiderman 2 for $349. So it's not just doom and gloom for xbox.

And believe me, I had plenty of consoles that were Xbox 360s that ended up getting the red rings. But they made some horrible decisions that many see as greedy towards the end, well, actually towards the middle and then the end of that console generation, and it hurt them to the point where I don't think until today, they haven't recovered. Remember, an executive at any point in time could decide, okay, we're going to Xbox Gaming Pass only and everything is going to be streamed. Most people still don't have the internet capabilities to be able to stream games 24-7 like that. We could have an executive who wants studios that they bought and owned to make useless games that appeal to everyone and they end up appealing to no one. I could see that happening too. Look at what they did to Starfield as the biggest example of that. I was in the camp where I knew the Xbox One was going to fail, and as soon as Microsoft bought out very good gaming companies, they were looking like they were going to dominate the end of this console generation because of all the exclusive games that are coming down the line for the Xbox. But again, after seeing Starfield, okay, this is Microsoft doing what they do best as usual with ruining things.

Companies that don't do as well as the competition always give the biggest discounts. I don't think they're planning to exit the console scene at all in the near future. I think they're willing to cut their profits on console hardware or even make a loss to get people to buy them and subscribe to Gamepass. They also clearly want a digital only future where they make even more money on all of the games.
EDIT: I wish they looked more at the competition and back to what made them so great during the 360 era. Great (exclusive) games without all the online bullshit. Discs that have full games on them. No forced online activation element that will turn a lot of their consoles into paperweights one day.

@sonicck I mean, I'm even satisfied with MOST of my Xbox1. Definitely not all, though, as I feel it's stupid to say "hey buy this disc, THEN download the same disc you bought when you could've bought digital to begin with." I prefer discs, so most of them having to be downloaded pissed me off, but otherwise, it's been a nice experience.
1) The discs have the "Full" game on it BUT you basically cannot play it from the game. The game is basically a transfer media.
2) The reason why the price tanked is because they are trying to do something to stop the scalpers. They buy up everything then sell it for more then double the price.
3) I just got mines today. I'm excited for Christmas this year.
@@Restrictted if you're referring to the fact that you have to install the disc, it's because the transfer speeds of the disc drive are too low. Running games from discs was fine for a lot of games during the 360 era cause back then we didn't have high resolution textures and stuff (and even back then optionally installing the disc made games load faster). Provided the full game is on disc, you own your physical media just as much today as back then. It's just that today you have to activate your Xbox online with a MS account before it can be used. Games on disc will work fully offline with an internet check provided the full game is on there.

I've seen the xbox series x drop down to 349.99 on Amazon and Walmart every other week. I managed to grab one at this price. I think it's a super solid deal. It might be that they are not selling as fast and have more stock than they would like on hand and would like to move out some quantities and at the same time make room to move on to a new system in the near future.
I got a series s earlier this year from Verizon for $150. It was such an insane deal I couldn’t pass it up. I honestly had no interest in even getting one before that. It’s a nice system for sure if you can get a good deal and don’t care about the best specs. Playing the smaller games and indie stuff on there from game pass is a treat.

I bought a used Series X in March for $400 that came with 2 controllers, 4 games, an RGB stand, and of course the HDMI cable and power cord. The controllers came with rechargeable battery packs.

I just ordered an XBox series x on amazon for 399EUR. They even offered the amazon 0% financing and for 79/month i couldn't resist. It'll be my first console since the Wii in 2007, so I'm really excited. I think your estimation is spot on though...they'll slowly clear out stock using the discount and maybe get a slight push in overall sales (i mean it's 150 less than a PS5!) , and start introducing the new hardware options in mid to late 2024. I was aware of the situation before placing my order, saw the leaks. Still went with it, because just like you said, if anything, my Series X will at least have a disc drive and i don't think the console will be obsolete graphically until at least 2026.

Seems more than likely Microsoft is clearing stock for new hardware or making the Xbox priced for impulse buying. If they do go the route of new hardware they better start supporting m2 SSD or significantly reduce the price for their memory cards.

A few days ago, I was able to get a Brand New Diablo Edition Bundle for $349 from Walmart. It is definitely more powerful than my Xbox One X Console. I was surprised that it was $349, and I didn't wanna miss the opportunity. It is worth every penny! I am not an Xbox fanboy, I still have my PS4 that I still play, but going to skip the PS5 this time around and will see what both of these companies do for their next console like they did with XBOX One X or PS4 Pro.
I’m considering getting an Xbox series but but I’m not liking the direction they’re going with what I’m hearing about the next mid gen refresh of the Xbox series X being all digital only plus I’m happy with my Nintendo Switch and I will probably skip both PlayStation Xbox and stick with Nintendo as I’ve never had so much fun as I have had with my switch.

The backwards compatibility of the Xbox series. I bought my Series X for $350 two weeks ago! I flew out that house when I saw the segment on our local news....😂 I bought around 30 native Series X games, and already had over 120 Series X/Xbox One games. Making over 150 games for it already. I decided not to open my console until Xmas morning....😂 I ordered from Walmart, but since my location ran out of the Diablo version, the gave me the standard one! I was cool with that, especially since that version was still $500!!
I just got the series X here in Calgary for 500$ Canadian with diablo 4 and I have game pass already. Compared to the 1800$ I spent on my pc and having to buy every game the Series X is more than capable and can match my pcs performance at 4K easily. The console is a great buy so I’m surprised by the lack of success
I just got Series X for $599 on sale in Canada in August which seemed like a steal. But now I'm shook at the $100 price drop ($150 from normal price). I've always been a PC/Mac gamer and had no interest in consoles but needed to upgrade my mac soon and a friend told me to get a Series X.
I think the problem with sales is that most average consumers who aren't gamers have no idea which Xbox is which because of the naming. My friend told me about getting an Xbox and I looked up and found Series X, S, 360, One, One X etc... it was SUPER confusing for me and I had to spend a week researching the differences before buying.
But with Playstation they are all just numbered 1-5. Easy peasy and everybody knows about them because of this. I think if Xbox had just named their consoles 1, 2, 3, etc they would have sold more.

Well I’m a PlayStation guy. But I seen the series X on sale for 350$ at Walmart and could not pass that deal up considering the Series X and PS5 are neck and neck with eachother in performance. While the PS5 is still 500$. And honestly I gotta say, I do enjoy my Series X even if it does lack the games and other modern features that the PS5 has. I really do like it. It’s a great secondary console to my PS5. And I’ve found myself playing all my Single player games on Xbox and using my PS5 to play all the multiplayer games as all my friends own a PS5 and I’m just more used to the PlayStation controller so that’s what I opt for in a competitive multiplayer game.
But anyways my thoughts on why the console is on sale is probably just due to the fact that it’s the Holliday season and one of Microsoft’s main focus on Xbox is gamepass and selling Xbox consoles on sale for 100-200$ off would make the console more appealing so it puts more consoles in homes so people can buy gamepass. And this strategy worked as it got me to buy a Series X and the first thing I did when I got my Xbox was buy gamepass

I normally purchase both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, this generation I didn’t purchase an Xbox, there was nothing I couldn’t play on my Xbox one x , now there are a few games but nothing that is making me want the system at all. I can get most of the games on my ps5. I love that it is backwards compatible but I have that with my Xbox one x.

Going to a scalper was your first problem. But I get it, lots of us had fomo early on in the pandemic & thought we all needed the new hardware asap.

The Series consoles are reportedly selling worse than the One console. Meanwhile PS5 is outselling PS4. You don’t really have to look much further than that to know why these consoles are heavily discounted. PS5 is selling strong at full price so they have no incentive to lower the price. It’s like the One being down to $350 with Halo MCC bundled in meanwhile PS4 with no bundle was outselling 2 to 1 at $400. People don’t want an Xbox. They want a PlayStation.
So, this has been my assessment of Xbox for the past five years, and I still believe I'm correct in RGT. I think here you are a little wrong.
So, do I think the Xbox is going to do well? I think the Xbox, this generation at least, is going to pull off a PS3 moment where they started at a low point, but they finished very well. The reason being is, as we all know, Xbox 360s were defective. That upset a lot of people as that generation went on, even though the Xbox 360 started very strong. It was very consumer-friendly. It ended in a way that pushed on Kinect, which no one liked, and various other issues.
Now, moving forward, once we get to the PS4 generation, as you all know, the Xbox One had a horrible launch with online only, but the PlayStation 4 honestly had some various issues as well, not as much as the Xbox One.
And as for this generation, you have barely any exclusives, and now the exclusives that the Xbox is going to get in terms of buying out Obsidian as well as the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, they could finish this generation very well, but the problem now that has me second-guessing whether or not Xbox will finish this generation very good is the fact that executives over at Microsoft often don't know what they're doing, and sometimes make decisions that end up hurting their own brand over time. For example, a lot of studios that Microsoft bought ended up shutting down.
Worse yet, there was a lot of interesting projects from Lionhead that were shut down because Microsoft did not want to invest in the technology. And we're hearing rumors now that of course Microsoft is looking to go all digital. So there's a chance that all these studios Microsoft bought out, there's nothing going to come of it. Think about it. Every single studio Microsoft has bought out over the years, they've howled out those studios and they're nothing more.
And also trust is also a major thing with Microsoft. Anyone who owned any games for Windows Live are now currently screwed out of the games that they purchased. But if you purchased games over Steam around the same time, you still have your purchases currently.
Is Series S with Game Pass a good strategy or should I go with the Series X for physical games? $150 for Series S is very tempting.
Depends on how many games you play on a regular basis...calculate it like that, and you'll have your answer....what I mean by that is, there are several factors to consider...
A series s has a small SSD... Any AAA games you plan to play will likely fill up that drive after 2 or 3 games you download. if you buy it and then buy an official SSD that $150 easily turns into $350...at which point you can just as easily get a series x for the same amount...
if you go for a regular SSD, sure you may save some money that way if you're ok with moving series games back and forth, but again, how far away would you be from the $350 price point that will give you the same options...and more?🤔...for further perspective, I picked up 2 series games for $15 last week at GameStop...could you do that with a series s?...no.😜

@@talhashah you could do that but if you're solely relying on gamepass just know that they raised the price and you'll be paying monthly or yearly for gamepass. At some point you'll be paying more for a game on gamepass by subscribing to it than you would buying it flat out...but that's my thinking cause I made those calculations relative to the amount of time it takes me to finish a game...
some people don't care about finishing a game as long as they get to play it, so gamepass works fine for those people...not me, I take my time with games and I have to finish it before moving on to another, so gamepass is not an incentive for me which is why I rarely subscribe to gamepass. I only do when they offer $1 sales from time to time.
As a sidenote, gamepass and PlayStation's big games are also available on PC so if you already have one that is also an option....I don't have a PS5, but I picked up a mini PC for $350 last year and got spiderman remastered for $15.
I think if the next Xbox underperforms in sales Microsoft will pull a Sega and just focus on games and software

They are being smart doing this. It removes stock of the older models, preparing for the revised editions, and it provides a cheaper entry into the ecosystem. PS5 will probably see another price hike...

Series S was $240-250 last year till like February. Thats the only reason I bought one last year.

Just got an Xbox series X for 383 after tax at Walmart. So happy with this purchase, I sold my series S for 160 and a couple other things to get the $223.

The only "doom and gloom" thing to me is whenever I here "discless" console. Sony's done it, and now Microsoft is doing it. This is a brief transitional period. Right now we have a choice, but soon we won't. This isn't limited to video games either, physical media of every kind is going away because they no longer sell enough to bother producing them. I get it, digital is convenient, often cheaper (sometimes a LOT cheaper), and doesn't take up space on your selves. It really seems like the way to go, which is why most people have made the switch. But this is a big mistake that I think people will end up regretting later on when it's too late. Anything you buy digitally can be taken away from you at any time, and you don't even get any of your money back. You could have a digital game for 25 years, then one day you try to play it and find out that it's no longer available for whatever reason. It just happened with Sony removing well over 1,000 movies and shows over some licensing issue. Consider it a warning, people.
100%. Physical media preservation sucks too as it doesn’t last long. Emulation is the key and that what the Series S is for lol

I feel it's holiday related. My walmart had the following sales last week: xbox s for $149, xbox x w/ diablo 4 for $299, smash bros oled switch bundle for $199, and ps5 disc w/spiderman 2 for $349. So it's not just doom and gloom for xbox.

The 500 GB Series S is just being phased out for the more expensive 1 TB model. The revision to the Series X is probably not far away.
I like owning a series x aswell as switch and PS5 but it definitely gets way less playtime
