  • The word Navratri is derived from a Sanskrit word that translates ‘Nava’ as nine and ‘Ratri’ as night. So "Navaratri" literally means "nine nights." It is believed that goddess Durga fought with demon Mahishasur for nine days and the final day, when the demon was beheaded by her, is called Vijay Dashmi And that’s why Navratri symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
