@peter Schiff...You forgot the most important reason why Bitcoin will fail. Article One Section 8, The part that says "Regulate the value there of". This simply means the US government(US Congress) determines what a dollar is and what it's worth, just like the government determines how long a foot is. Taxes have to be paid in order to pay down debt, support the military & the general welfare of the United States. These constitutional guarantees will always be paid with dollars or whatever the US Congress agrees on. And, not to mention, do the Bitcoin people actually believe the average person will take a chance to invest in such a shady system to begin with? I mean, right off the bat, no one even knows who invented it, that's shady and ridiculously creepy, and the fact that it uses blockchain is suppose to make me feel better that no one can trace it yet? I mean what a risk, talk about super shady! Say the government does figure out a way, then what? I should take a risk so that a bunch of greedy nerds can get rich? No thanks, I got bills to pay. The Bitcoin people have gotten so carried away with themselves its ridiculous.

I have a question for you: suppose that gold value was low because it was not used as store of value. How much, then, would it be used in the industry compared to other metals?
Your are asking us to assume human nature and 5000 years of history never happened... tough question to ask. Scarce things that are unhackable are by nature things humans store value in. Grand master works of art, land, precious metals. Your question is a nonstarter with that big IF you start from.
My question is, would it be really worth mining gold for electronics, for instance, or jewelery?
Well mankind has been fascinated with gold and it's scarcity and beauty ever since we came into contact with it. My guess is that gold is a synonym for jewelry, royalty, status etc... so I would say yes, in my opinion it would be worth mining gold even if just for the plutocracy wanting it to adorn it's vaults and palaces. For electronics no. That is why silver has a much bigger upside, because it is becoming as scarce as gold it is considered precious by history and has unlimited demand on electronics... imagine, yes, gold stays precious and I don't know gets to $2k... but then silver because of demand and preciousness closes the ratio to 10:1 or 1:1 tremendous upside... we all know gold does not has that upside unless currencies are decided to be backed by gold which would require it to be valued at $10k according to some estimates... but even if not, it is still woth mining for jewelry and art IMO

I think the bottom line depends on why the buyers of either Bitcoin or gold are buying it for. If they did it to preserve their wealth in preparation for the global currencies reset, they have to decide which will hold its value better after the transformation from debt based to asset based of all currencies which include the dollar, yuan, euro, yen .....etc.Can anyone tell me if Bitcoin is an asset? I believe we may still have 10 years or so to figure it out.

Tulipmania was such a small regional bubble in the Netherlands that was greatly exaggerated. It's strange that so many people use it as an analogy. If anything the tulip bubble mimics the U.S. marijuana industry, as both are plants and easily grown and cultivated.

I've heard Peter plenty advocate for foreign stocks, currency and investment funds. His gold sales are for a safe investment, I've never once heard Peter say "invest in gold and you will be rich through appreciation"
I was really looking forward to hear some insightful articulated thoughts on both sides of the argument. Peter made very good points, based on history and research. Max started doing what any idiot does when they are out of their league. I would enjoy Peter Schiff vs another Bitcoin expert in the future on the same debate topic. I am open to learning more about bitcoin, I like the idea of crypto. I just don't see how there is an intrinsic value in crypto. I am wanting to like crypto, but I haven't heard any compelling arguments why it will last.

So saying money must be used for something else first limits the mind and is like saying a means of transportation must involve an animal since even animals understand that concept. Another example of mind limitations because some said so is the 4 minute mile, if you don’t know for very long time people believed humans could not run a mile in under 4 minutes and because someone said so everyone was limited by that statement. I think its going to be same as with the dotcom, there are going to be around 10 - 20 survivors max if they are going to survive the crash. Tons of ICOs are not going to deliver, and people will sell even profitable good projects to cover the losses...
