Ive stayed in all of these sites multiple times. I have spent at least a month and a half in the CG over several years. Site one is good for being close to car but I prefer 5 or 6. 9 is also good. A bear sniffed the back of my head in my tent one night in the 1990s. Yep. Sure did. It woke me up. I was not conscious completely and put it all together the next morning. There is nothing else that big up there. Just put food in the box and you will be fine. I have ridden out wind and rain storm for hours up there. I will never forget it. You must be prepared to be in your tent for hours. Most of the time you will be fine. Fog is normal in summer.
By 2017, most of the trees shown here were gone (probably cut down for safety reasons, as they seem mostly dead even here) and the campground was a lot more open/scrubbier looking.
+Brant Casteel I believe it was a utility building, but you can keep walking on the trail. If I remember right, it leads to the observation area at the very top of the mountain.
Bless your heart for taking the time to do this video. It really helped us decide which campsite to reserve. Happy trails to you.

It's 2021 and I'd like to thank you for this video. It helped us know exactly where our lot was as well as navigation around the campground. Cheers!
Thanks for the tour - it helped us decide which site to pick.
Thanks! You helped me pick my campsite for next week. I really appreciate you!
Awesome video! We are going this weekend, and I'm glad I stumbled upon your video.

They don’t have treated water. Bring your own water. They are in the process of upgrading the water system currently.
Looking to go here this weekend to camp/hike the mountain. Looks like a great place.
+Josef Williams Do it! Looks like the weather will be nice, but cold. It's windy up there too. Be prepared.
I've never been to Mt. Mitchell. It's on my bucket list though.
What camera did you use? Just curious. Also, did you have any problems with bears?
At site 9 there was a little trail leading up to another building. What was that?

Thanks!
worked seasonal up there in 1988 and 1989 and the building referred to is a pump station for the water system up there.
Is the water from those faucets safe to drink?
Didn't get me sick, haha!
Thank you! Glad I didn't reserve site #9.
Did you have to pay for camping?
Yep it's not free- $20 per night.
