Oil Industry is always boom and bust. Went to work in 2010. Industry was giving $40K signing bonus’s. With $150K salary’s. That time they had virtually no PET Engineer’s. This boom lasted up till 2015. Most PET Eng. I know have been laid off. Now in 2022 the industry is firing back up.
Thanks for creating awareness
i'm currently studying PE in austria and i've heared alot of these talks. but for me just looking at the numbers in the coming years there will be so many PE needed according to SPE so is this guy is wanting less ppl study PE, or is it really bad degree??
In the United States, it is not a good degree. Not anymore. What numbers are you looking at.
I dont think so. The energy transition is real and zero carbon will be eventually happen. So yeah petroleum engineers soon or later will be dead
@@mantanhansipromawi439 That eventually isn't going to be in ur lifetime dude
Yeah me too I'm doing petroleum engineering it's my last semester but after all that even since I started propels use to say me don't do that or either switch your field still I'm confused and just pray God find way for every one
Don't listen to naysayers
Bro whatever you are saying is true about petroleum engineering. Guys who are deciding to take petroleum engineering I will recommend you guys to graduate from mother fields like (mechanical, electrical chemical, CIS), etc, and then do master in petroleum engineering. I am living in Saudi Arabia and the problem with petroleum engineering is that they want 5 years of experience. seriously in Saudi Arabia company, first priority is to hire experience employer or or Saudi citizen. so that why I decide to change my field.
Smart. Smart.
Hi Hussain, im electrical engineering graduated, and wanted to take master in petroleum, do you think its still worth it now? Thankyou
Would you recommend chemical engineering or is it just as bad
With BS in petroleum engineering is a good idea to do msc in mechanical engineering?
Yes. Or computer science. My friend graduated with me in petroleum and then got a masters in computer science and is now making $140,000 a year. That’s without bonus.
@@abesdrawings1417 does his job combine these two fields?
@@hampshire2821 honestly. Idk. That’s a bad example because he’s a very good sweet talker. Not a lot of people with those two degrees can get this job. He was chosen out of 3800 interviewed candidates. So again, that is a bad example but those two degrees are good! But don’t expect a 140k job like my friend because of it.
You are right brother
Make more videos please. Thank you.
Sounds a lot like the railroad...shame cuz i like the history of both, the money and i liked pressure vessels, piping, fluid flow, etc
Apparently every engineering career is being hated on like what am I supposed to choose with the good salary if everyone is hating on everything
Hmm. I dont agree that engineering is being hated on. Idk who you are hanging out with but they are wrong. Just because its a good salary, doesnt mean youll be able to find a job in it. Petroleum engineering is always the highest in annual salary but theres a chance youll get laid off real quick.
Dear brothers and sister this is totally wrong. I am petroleum Engineer in ADNOC my life is good alhumdulillah.
My whole expenses is free for house child free education free health free insurance and a lot of things free.
Im interested in petroleum engineering and want to go to university for it but all these people online have been saying not to pursue it and do chemical or mechanical instead
Hello brother can you share more info , I’m 18 years old fresh high school graduate . Thinking about pursuing this
U.S. Army Warrant officer 923A Petroleum Systems Technician
How many hours do petroleum engineers work?
It depends. Some are 8 hour jobs. Some are 12 hour shifts for 3 weeks and off one week.
Is a chemical engineering degree better?
I believe so.
By the way bro I am from Philippines and I am planning that after I get an experience I want to go to other country. What country do you think is good for Petroleum Engineer?
Middle Eastern countries
UK is good too
@@abesdrawings1417 Thank you!!
Thank you!!
YOU HAVE A 2.8 GPA!!!!! How were you allowed to graduate and not kicked out of the college of engineering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm, I think below a 2.0 GPA will get you kicked out. Not 2.8. Thanks for the comment
maybe you should apply to aramco, saudi arabia
Shit happened to me as well , can you please suggest me some other courses in master which is not belong to petroleum engineering as i graduated as a petroleum engineer
Computer science
How areyou doing now?
Hows the environmental engineering job so far? How's it paying and what are the hours like? Also, have you still been applying for oil jobs? I'm doing mech eng right now and I will graduate in about 3 years, but i've been wanting to try and get a petroleum job for the first years that I work so that I can cash out on a bunch of money while im young and don't have a lot of commitments.
no. not doing oil anymore. Just not interested. Yes, you can do that but it'll be a bit difficult finding a job that pays very well straight out of college(just a heads up). I love it. 53k but in Louisiana, thats ok money. I mean.....im comfortable. My hours are very very light. maybe 10 hours a week realistically. sometimes in the field, but I'm merely just sitting in the truck watching people wear appropriate gear and drill in the correct areas. Sometimes I'm staring in the sun 6 hours sampling mud.
Damn bro ..what degree do you recommend
What are your thoughts about master's in Mechanical Engineering after bachelor's in Petroleum Engineering?
Yes, that’s fine!!!

Thanks for your honesty. I’m a freshman at Texas A&M and I don’t know what major I want to do. At first I thought physics then this now maybe comp Sci. It’s hard because I don’t really have a passion for any of this bullshit
my advice is to at least go into a degree that makes more than average salary. at the same time, enjoy your time in college!!! it is going to be very memorable
You are american and u also got a degree from the US , go to the middle east and u will be treated like a king, check countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates ......there are a lot of opportunities out there buddy you need only to look closely
Get a master degree in oil and gas, it will definitely increase ur chances in finding a job
The oil and gas market is like any other market and they are really paying well but it has ups and downs and it is really affected by the prices of oil
So why don’t you go to Middle East ? I read your reply that you are struggling and working for apple ?
Do you know if agriculture engineering is good can I work myself into environmental engineering
yeah. thats an ok route
I Dunno but does petroleum engineering learn about mining? Because Im not from petroleum just curious maybe since electrical car petroleum Will getting replace with renewable energy, but why you not go abroad country degree from USA are very prestige you know for example in here Indonesia we had rich oil and mining why you not apply there , cost daily life are cheap but if youre work here you have all rich facilities
No we don't do mining but we do drilling. You need a source of energy to power electric cars. Renewable is not close to overtake the non renewable energy. Smaller O&G companies are safer.
Thanks so much this video was really helpful and you do seem like someone that could be successful in TH-cam. Why don’t you do TH-cam on the side
Lol. Not TH-cam. There is way too much competition! Im glad I helped!

Thanks man
Does this also apply to petroleum geologists?
I’m not sure
The GPA doesn't matter.... its all about who you know in the oilfield
Do you think that it also applies even graduate from one of the best universities for Petroleum Engineering and know several languages?
I speak Arabic, Farsi and French fluently. So yes. It applies to you. You cannot get a job overseas to those language speaking countries because overseas jobs require MORE experience than normal.

Honestly i dont know what to do. Will it be better if study in canada and go back to my country emirates will i be prioritized and get a job easily? Should i get courses in software or chemical in college parallel to the petroleum just in case?

it is a cyclic industry. I believe petroleum industry still lucrative for next 2-3 decades. Having said that, it is really cyclic based on supply and demand. After graduating in petroleum engineering with good grades. when go for a job they ask for experience. How can we get experience when they does not give us even internship. If they give you internship its just 1 month. I also highly recommend not to go for any degree related to petroleum

Ummm so what options we have after completing bachelor's in petroleum engineering??
Teaching
@@eastern76 I believe teaching is something which would be very very competitive ( considering 1 teacher teaches 150+ students ) and also I've to complete my masters as well as PhD to become a professor in a semi decent University . My was thinking to do MS in mechanical or electrical engineering , or go into data analytics or something ( because being a petroleum engineer you know how to deal with a ton of data ) , or if nothing works out I was planning to do MBA (job prospects are good there ) , do share you thoughts whether I'm thinking in a right direction or not !☺️
Just get a job. It’s not a hard job to get if you have a decent gpa or some work experience from college. LSU for example has many job fairs where students can shadow and get experience. This dude obviously put 0 effort into the major and just saw money then blamed the major for his failure.
Mining engineering
Im not from US but now im in Houston and planning to enroll Petroleum Engineering Technology in HCC, what do you think ??
No don’t do it.
Don't do that there are better schools in that area for Pete students you can't compete.
I'm a senior high school and also a Filipino. I'm planning of taking a petroleum engineer here in my home country and after I got a little experience( maybe 5 yrs or more ) I'll go to USA to work there as a petroleum engineer because of the big salary that I always see when I'm searching about it. I just want to be a petroleum engineer because of the high salary of other country and after I watch this vid, I feel like it is really a good way not to pursue this. If you, who lived in us, can't get that job properly, how can I even do it? even though I want to work overseas, I just sort of feel like that dreaming of working in USA is impossible.

Dude just be real, dont put yourself in this beautiful world only for money! Money is not everything and cannot be your major reasons for taking a degree. Most of the petroleum engineering student ive ever met just rolled in this degree just becauce of fking money and most of them ended up in nothing and jobless
I studied in Colombia, and I was planing to go to US, but there is very complicate to get a job because you need experience, and the experience is impossible to get in Colombia, there are 75% of unemployed index in petroleum engineering but I believe that is more. The best students in my promotion, maybe 5 are doing doctorate studies, because they don't find a job. I'm working in the uni, but in the future I'm planing to get a master in materials science.
