Could you give any Guitar Pro tutorial videos? I understand that you include the files in your Patreon so I assume you must really know how to use it. I can barely scratch the surface with it so far.
Well, I only know how to do the simple things I do. You should check out Levi Clay! He is a master (and a cool cat) You can always tell him I sent you 🙂
What sticks in my mind Jens is Joe Pass saying to play what you hear. He said something to the effect of trying to copy something you heard and it seldom comes out right because the timing is off. But I already started the homework assignment before it was issued. Thanks to you. I probably butchered something you played and it came to. It is on a 2-5-1 though and I find it useful on blues as well. Is there a way I can make a patreon contribution without it being on a regular basis? I'd like to send something your way from time to time.
Hey Jens!! The editing that you're doing in the recent videos is totally great!! Congrats! :) Nice topic as well haha, developing a personal sound takes a lot of time!
Thank you Mila! I actually hired an editor so working with him has really upped the quality and given me some more room to just work on the lessons (hopefully)
Thank you very much! I am glad you found it useful! If you have any suggestions for topics or things you are looking for the feel free to let me know 👍
Great stuff, Jens! Whether it's coping someone else's lines (use your Wes example, eh?) or crafting your own, it will always come back to what a person can hear and link to their fingers. It's easy to hear something and say "oh, that's cool!", but it doesn't mean that it's something the player can easily get under their fingers. Starting with simpler phrases in the composition process will help! All the best, Ken
Absolutely the way to develop one´s own identifiable voice. Being original in any format is what will make you a sought after player. All the players who have happening careers have written and developed their ideas. That becomes your identifiable voice. People will hear who you are within 4 bars. Work at it systematically and realise that it will take some years. I promise you success if you persist. Creating music is the only freedom we have.
Jens Larsen just get the brain in gear but trying to do my own simplified take on things I've heard has helped alot I just play simple stuff but slowly adding in more interesting notes
Jens, this maybe little connected to the topic of this video (or maybe it is connected very well?) but it occured to me when I heard the second example in the video. What happened was this - I heard in my mind a bit diferrent line than yours, something that I would play differently on the V chord rhytmically especially. Sometimes it happens when I listen to jazz or any kind of music really - that I would write a head melody or improvise a bit different that the player, who I'm listening to. I think this is a sign that I have develop my taste, the thing you were taling about in the beginning of the video :)
If I'm going to do a cove, weather I'm familiar with it or not. I take time to figure how I might alter the chord progression and melody line in my mind before trying to play it . If you have preconceived conception of what you want to do, then it's easier to play it on the fretboard . Good luck everyone 😉
What amp do you use (gear is an important part of sound)! I’m in the market to buy and amp and have about 300-500$ to spend and was wondering what you use to get a jazz/fusion tone?
Thanks Dylan! I use a Fractal Audio FX8 through a QSC K10. That setup is more than your budget though. I am not sure what I would recommend for that price range to be honest. Maybe a Blues Jr? I student of mine has a Katana that is also really good.
I like The first drop 2 arpeggio over Dm7. I would like To Take The same arpeggio And play it over a hard rock backing track. It Can be like classical music lick combined in rock music. Some guitarist play this type of melody over rock song..... Forse example Tony Iommi. He can play dark melody, other melody seems like a piece of church Music
What is your best advice/approach for getting a personal sound? 🙂

I think like you’ve said before, take influence from other genre’s of music, it can add a surprising and different approach to jazz. Maybe? 😂
Solid advice Bob!

Thanks for another great lesson Jens! I love your teaching style
Glad you like it Jume! 🙂

This is a really good video. I had to watch it twice and maybe I will have to watch it more times.
Thank you very much! I am glad you found it useful! If you have any suggestions for topics or things you are looking for the feel free to let me know 👍
Jens Larsen thank you very much for taking the time to answer.
I liked much the lesson, it opens many possibilities ..
Thanks Francesco! Glad you like it! 🙂

That's very true! I like to think of it as checking something out and practice playing a similar lick 🙂

Very true Bob!
I do that as a warm up, like my own stuff just as a 2 5 1 but I find thelonius sphere very inspiring I listen to him pre practise
That's an interesting thought. I don't really use it as a warm up 🙂
Jens Larsen just get the brain in gear but trying to do my own simplified take on things I've heard has helped alot I just play simple stuff but slowly adding in more interesting notes
Such great advice!
Thank you very much! 🙂
Thank you man. This approach can really help turn a single lick into a whole bag of tricks.
That's at least a part of the idea :)
for sure
I wish you had been my guitar teacher in school.
Thank you! That's very nice of you to say so :)

Yes, that is your own taste :) Nothing wrong with that 🙂

That's very true! And a lot of types of preparation can be useful! 🙂

Thank you Matteo! I doubt if Tony Iommi would use a drop2 voicing as an arpeggio, but of course I am not that familiar with his playing 🙂
Ah ok, It is possible that i amici confused as concerns The sound, but i think that sometimes drop 2 voices can produce evocative music
I don't think evocative is as much about what you play, more about how you play it and in which context 🙂
Sir, is a natural process if i changing style time to time for beginner like me?
I always stay on your channel.
If you are a beginner then try to stick to one style as much as you can, but also just play and write stuff. You can refine it along the way 👍
Jens, why music only arises when the soul is at peace? _/\_
I am not sure that is the case 🙂
you know ... Samadhi ?
A lot of good music is not made in piece of mind.
What's g7 alt means ? Sorry I usually just match the usual licks note with the chord hehe
G7alt is a G altered dominant so a dominant from the altered scale: th-cam.com/video/OesxTbtIQFA/w-d-xo.html (sorry about the really old video 😄)
FIRST.
No, second 😄
Answer- Because me write jazz licks good.
That is indeed hopefully the answer!
