In this short tutorial I make some simple three dimensional letters. These can be used for crafting or video/animation projects. The designs are simple so that each can be made from a single piece of card.
To keep the design simple and 'one piece', there are some gaps around the edges of some letters. An extra edging strip of card could be fixed around the edges of these letters if really needed.
The video shows how to plan and draw the letter templates using Adobe Illustrator.
These designs are printed out onto card.
The letter shapes are cut out by hand using scissors (and a scalpel). All of the fold lines are lightly scored with the scalpel to help the paper fold nicely to form the letter edges.
Finally, a dab of glue stick is applied to each of the tabs and the letter is folded together, holiding the joins as much as possible while the glue dries.
The final letter 'A' is shown here, but obviously different letters sizes and other typefaces are all possibilities. You could also print on coloured card, or add pattern to the letter surfaces, either digitally at the Illustrator stage or later by hand by drawing or painting on the card.

I've had quite a few people asking me for the template files for the full alphabet of these letters. I have made these as Adobe Illustrator files and could quite easily make these into .pdf files too. The .ai files can be used with a CraftRobo cutter (or similar) or printed out for hand-cutting (as in the video.)
