Here’s the link to our video to create a restart, sleep or hibernate shortcut: th-cam.com/video/U0ih8ErEGaw/w-d-xo.html If you do pin the "Shutdown Button" to your taskbar, just be careful where you put it. You wouldn't want to accidentally click on it in the middle of a project... Thanks for watching :)
Great info. I have been using those shortcuts since Win 7 days. I also made a shortcut for Restart and Logoff. I only use the desktop shortcut option. I don't pin them to the taskbar because it is too easy to select the shortcut by accident and have the computer shutdown when I really didn't want it to.
Create a restart shortcut with "Shutdown -r -t 00" and hold shift while you click on it. But you can also restart normally with shift, safemode is rarely needed
@@FiskX. shutdown /r /t 0 will do for a restart icon, r stands for restart & s stands for shutdown & 0 is the amount of time for the restart to happen, example 5 would be 5 seconds, 0 is immediately
Excellent tutorial and clearly explained. This shortcut button is most useful, makes me wonder why this isn't a default MS Windows option? I also agree with other comments made here, on not having this button on the actual taskbar.
the "0" (zero) at the end is for how many seconds it delays de shutdown? I think it is (didn't tried, yet). I believe if you type (let's say) 120, the system will be shutting down in 2 minutes. Am I right? Can anyone confirm or dismiss this? Great video btw. Thanks.
Yes I’d like to know this as well. I have an older laptop that I use for basically a display using VLC to play old converted videos 24/7 and after time the windows tab disappears. I have to do a hard reset or hover over that area until hopefully it appears. Desktop icons stay visible so this would be ideal
@@FiskX. I've just read another comment which gave the following instruction..... Restart: "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -t 0 -r" Which one would you suggest that I try? Thank you.
Where the 0 is typed after the -t you can use whatever value you would like, it represents the amount of seconds till shutdown. I use " shutdown -s -t 12888"
@@EIRE55 Follow all the steps in the video except do this: shutdown /r /t 0 notice the r and not the s which stands for: s for shutdown & r for restart, and name the shortcut Restart
Been doing this since at least xp, along with reboot. I also have batch files for both so if in a command prompt, i can just type powerdown (been doing this on linux and other unux boxes too longer than i can remember)
I only pull out my laptop and Surface every few months but inevitably the batteries are pretty close to dead. I suspect that something is still running to enable as faster bootup; that is, they are not well and truly shut down. Is there a way to completely shut down a laptop to kill these processes ( if they really do exist ) ?
Is there a way to activate SLEEP via creating a shortcut? I use sleep every day. I hoped I could mimic this process but for sleep but I am unable. Thanks.
Where the 0 is typed after the -t, you can use whatever value you would like, it represents the number of seconds before shutdown is initiated. What I use for my sleep timer is " shutdown -s -t 12888"
@christop_bader made a comment on here about a Restart shortcut, so here's the information he gave me.............. If like me Win' 10, you use classic shell, the button is there in the start menu. Don't know if classic shell works with 11, as I shunt be using 11 when 10 ends, i won't know, I'll just stick with 10, I stuck with 7 when it ended, nothing adverse happened.
What if I want to put my Windows 10 or 11 PC to sleep or hibernate? Can you shoe me how to make that in to a short cut button? Al so the same for restart.
I mean, pressing the physical power button does the same as that shortcut. Be careful though, some powerbuttons may have a sprint and some kickback, you might sprain your finger. 😒🙄

@@BrettInTech Hey, Create a video for hibernate button.
Thank you, that was just I was looking for!

Appreciate the 'get right to it' approach.
Very helpful!

Nice video. Now for a goofy question, is there a shortcut that could be created to restart the computer in Safe Mode?

How about RESTART?

How about a 'Restart' shortcut. (There is no filename called 'Restart'.)
Is there a shortcut button for hibernate instead of shutdown. The shutdown, as presented here, works like a charm.
Thanks Brett. Is there a way to switch on a pc remotely?

what the command please for 'sleep'
Great tutorial as always, however having that on the task bar is a terrible plan. One mis-click and you could ruin your entire day.
you can add a number of seconds after /t, so in case you missclick it, you can always abort by typing "shutdown /a"
Right click on start button, left click / sign out/sleep/ shut down/restart
