I see most people plug this into their PC. However, I was watching one video and the guy said he had it installed in the loft plugged into the router. Let's say I want to access the SDR from another computer, that would mean I would have to have the main computer switched on. Can you configure it and then connect the SDR to the main router or hub?
Recommended method is to have it connected in a switch and the switch connected to your router or if you prefer directly to the router, this way you can connect to SunSDR2 PRO from every computer on your network having Expert Software installed, even from the internet if you have a good internet connection like me (th-cam.com/video/_F_slg_8u_Q/w-d-xo.html). There is also a remote server project, it is almost done so you would be able to control your transceiver over internet when the internet speed is low (th-cam.com/video/ozfUPC_is6k/w-d-xo.html).
Yes, my intention is to use the radio from another computer in the room but have the radio set top in the same room as all my radios. However, when I watch Martin Lynch's TH-cam video on how to set up the transceiver they connected straight to the PC to obtain the IP address. I suppose in that particular video it was done as a demonstration of you are going to use it on your shack PC. I'm sure there's instruction somewhere on how to set it up if you plug it straight into the router first time around. The other thing that actually came to mind that could also be a bit problematic is if I run the SDR through my SPE 1K amplifier. Normally, the amplifier switches on when you turn the radio on. I'm not sure how it would work if I was accessing the SDR from a remote computer. I suppose it would work in a similar way, you would have to switch on the SDR in the shack then the amplifier would switch on automatically and everything would work, I think that would be okay.

Is the power output variable? Also, I've got the SPE 1K experts amplifier. I'm assuming that I would have to use an ALC between the amplifier and the transmitter? Is this just a cable?
Yes, you can change the output power as you wish, up to ~20 W. For the moment SunSDR2 PRO does not have ALC implemented but you can limit the output power per band in software interface, so you can set max output 2W for 20m, 3w for 40m etc in this case your SPE 1k will be safe, no need for ALC
Excellent, thank you for the reply. I don't know if you know anything about ham radio deluxe? I have used HRD for many years now and really like it. However, I don't know how it would work with the SDR radio though. The reason I say this is because you don't need the rig control because you already have the software that comes with the SDR. So I would only want the logbook part of HRD. But I can't see how the logbook would follow the frequency and bands of the SDR if it's not configured for the SDR. Any ideas?
You can configure CAT ports in the software interface, you can have different CAT ports for RX1 and RX2, just specify these ports to HRD, you also need to specify Kenwood TS480 as the radio if HRD does not have SunSDR2 PRO, Expert software is using a similar protocol like Kenwood TS480
Good video Dan!
In the new version of ExpertSDR2 software the spots shifts by vertical if they are to close with each other.

а где сама работа в тесте на передачу? )))
