The thing that makes this hit harder for me is knowing fabvl just became a dad. The thought of a parent being the reason their child ended up like this and having to "fix" their mistake. Any parent would tear up.
I mean, when you think about it, most of the Todoroki family want to make amends, and we know that Endeavor is trying and making an effort to fix things. Another thing is that we, as viewers, know he is genuinely ashamed by what he did. Yes, Endeavor has done horrible things, but most of his family forgave him, plus he is making a conscience effort to write his wrongs. If you don't like him, that's that, but all I'm sayin is dude is trying.
a successful redemption arc doesnt have to end in forgiveness. neither from the viewer nor the characters. the turnaround he has and the effort he puts in to make amends with or without forgiveness speaks for it self that yes Endevor had his redemption.
Insane that this back and forth was happening from the very beginning. Endeavor is lights up orange and Dabi is blue. Dabi says "Let's close your eyes forever" and "Die" in every chorus while Endeavor is responding to him. At least that's how I see it.
I personally went from hating Endeavor to him being one of my favorite characters in the show if not my favorite. They do such a good job of depicting his regret and remorse, the writing around his emotions is so well done it kinda moved me. Never seen regret or remorse depicted so well in an anime.
Thats exactly how I felt about him. I honestly couldn't stand him but him actively trying to make amends for what he did no matter if he is forgiven really got me. All he can do is try and he has went above and beyond in my opinion
For me personally I didn't like Endeavor when we first met him. Even when we saw his strength I still didn't like him. But when I saw Endeavor actively trying to change and to make amends with his family and to correct the wrongs that he had did. That is when I started to like him. Something else I really liked about him was he had never tried to excuse what he did to any of them. So yeah you're right some people like Endeavor just for his strength. As for me I like his willingness to not only accept what he did but to actively change for the better and to make amends. Not only for himself but for the family he had ruined.
Okay find me literally anyone who liked the guy at the start, especially because “he was strong.” Literally no one liked him until S4, when he started to change.
To me the best part of Endeavors character is that he's seeking atonement instead of forgiveness. The moment he realizes his family would be better without him thats the path he goes down, deciding its better to make up as much as he can even if he doesnt get to be a part of it.
Holy shit bro, chills throughout the whole song man, i cant come up with a joke for this, almost made me tear up, Fabvl never miss, especially woth Dizzy on the track Endeavor the number one hero Now for me, his redemption isnt there yet, series isnt over, the manga just ended, we have a long way to go, but i respect him more for tring to make ammends and change for the better, he made mistakes, and now he's owning up to it, id say hes a better hero than before
Love Endeavor because I love his story and especially the conversations around him. How people look at him is a hard reflection of the viewer. For example, how do you morally judge a person? By their character, current or past? By their Actions, good vs bad, or just by their mistakes. Whether you believe a person can truly change, be redeemed after F'ing up for so long, or be forgiven after doing so wrong. These topics are very personal and say alot about you as a person and in my opinion makes the Todorokis gold in terms of story and writing.
I think the fact that Endeavor is so irredeemable adds to the tragedy. To know he fucked up as badly as he did, to the point that the only “redemption” would still include his death, along with his sons’, is pretty fucking tragic So I like that a lot.
While I agree that Endeavor really can't be redeemed, you can't say he's not well written. Learning about Endeavor's true reasoning for being insecure and so headstrong in his ways (his father passing) was really needed for his story. It gave us perspective of why he sees weakness as such a bad thing, the one person he looked up to died because he wasn't strong enough and so he pushed his family to the brink, only to unintentionally repeat the cycle and create a monster because he wasn't strong enough emotionally to give his kids the life they deserved. It's tragic.
Endeavor wanting forgiveness having pushed his first child's passion into a burning obsession of self destruction and the constant push of motivational training caused Dabi to be convinced that he had to be more than his father because that was the societal expectations pushed onto him. Dabi didn't ask for any of it he was only just a child a mere child but was already pushed so hard by a father who was seen the number 2 hero and the father wanted to become more than All might who he admired out of a burning obsession he had himself and then pushed that onto his children who his wife grieved over and caused her to become emotionally numb pained by the loss of Dabi not knowing that all this time her first child that she loved adored is still alive but rightfully blaming the father that did neglect the children he had and only planned to make them just like him just as great if not more. Dabi only went through the training and pushed himself personally because it was planted in his mind to push his limits because his father is Endeavor and knowing his family blood line is born a hero genetic family that he didn't ask to be born into. The mother resented the constant pushing and the neglect of her children but Endeavor's motivations only pushed him further to neglect his responsibilities as being a father being a parent first being present and responsible for his family wasn't his concern for a very long time and considering Dabi's pain only worsened seeing the father the same father who pushed him he continued doing that unto his other children who he then saw as being nothing less than "defective unnecessary and broken." Endeavor knowing Dabi's strength and quirk at first excited him of the possibilities that his child may be stronger than him but through seeking professional medical opinion he learned that his son couldn't push himself the way his father can with his own limits. The father was emotionally negligent and not very present in the children's lives he was physically there but was never doting loving the way the mother had been with them. Dabi worsened because he felt that he could never gain his father's approval believing his father no longer wanted needed him even after trying attempting to prove himself and then burned out then pushed too harshly unto himself and caused his flames to erode from the obsession that drove him. Dabi is clinically insane psychologically he believes not in the idea of "redemption" he does believe that his father cannot repent for all the damage he caused to his entire family, I am sure however that he may deeply care for his family the other members who never harmed him as much but because Bakugo and the heroes choose to stand in his way stopping his plotted plan of seeking vengeance wanting to ruin the reputation of the hero's academy that made Dabi's father the hero he had been pushed to become in his earlier years the same way the other hero's are being pushed tested to their limits Dabi is merely lost a broken hearted child within wanting screaming in anger seeking to wreck his father because his father still hasn't seen through what he had done until he realized or realizes that the greatest villain in the league is his first eldest child back from the dead but yes the story is tragic but just saying it was tragic is truly an understatement. Endeavor isn't exactly the perfect hero or the greatest father in the world but seeing how he may actually emotionally regret what he had done seeing his entire family resent him or just wanting him gone and dead must be taking a toll on him knowing his children are trying to shine whilst still being their own person being people with feelings emotions. Endeavor must understand and sincerely seek redemption for himself he has to forgive himself and just try to be better but when it comes to my opinion I don't see that currently happening anytime soon in the story.
personally i can respect his strength but i also thought he was a piece of shit UNTIL he actually started his redemption arc and now i kinda sympathize for him like his wish to be stronger than all might and to have a kid surpass them both blinded him and drove him to do messed up stuff and now he's woken up to what he was actually doing and the consequences of his actions as a husband and father and u can see how much he wants to redeem himself and how much he wants to make up for it with dabi and shoto and his wife that im like i kinda like the dude now if he can finish his redemption arc with meaning like if he sacrifices himself to save shoto or summat then he's ok in my books
I'm probably one of the few ppl in between. I despised endeavor in the beginning by after hearing the story for Ren, I felt like he wasn't all that bad. Just a man that was broken from the failure of losing his son and never truly coming to terms with it. Just losing himself in the thought of beating all might so he didn't have to think about losing Toya.
6:31 nah I didn't like endeavor at the start ... but back than he always was painted as straight up evil cause of the f up shit he did to shoto ... but we have got to see a way more human side of endeavor since and a side that tries to better himself and I loved his arc I love endeavor now ... I think changing your mind on a character based on his or hers development is the whole point of character development
I didn't like him or bakugo because at beginning the were both bad people but as the show went on I've gotten to the point were im neutral with both because they both did bad thing but had a redemption and are better people now P.s sorry if this doesn't make sense im bad with words
I think it's important to have characters who are just bad people. I just started watching MHA because of this song but going by the sounds of it, he's a bad dude.. I'm glad MHA seemingly has them because often anime tries to redeem evil characters and it degrades their whole character for me
Honestly, I love Endeavor, I'm big on second chances, and seeing that he genuinely cares about his family now, really hits hard. In all honesty I needed his redemption to become a better person myself, so I have a lot to thank him for lol
The thing that makes this hit harder for me is knowing fabvl just became a dad.

Aye I’ve never seen my hero academia but this is making me wanna watch it.
It is the complicated feelings of his character that makes him my favorite of the series.

This song had me crying in the end thinking about all that has happened to the todoroki family.
