2006 carrera owner here as well. 997.1 manual. 130K Miles . Bore scope only now and am fortunate only some bore scoring however it’s my daily driver and I love it. You said it best I drive it and pay to maintain it for my pleasure this isn’t some investment I try to justify. It’s a source of happiness.

And I’ve been doing on average 15K miles a year.

Excellent review and summary of the little things that 997.1 owners should pay attention to! Mine (06 C4 manual) doesn't like going into 1st unless stopped (this improved with a trans fluid change but my indy said I shouldn't be pushing it into first unless stopped). Gundo hack worth every single penny (only $200 back in day). Wakes it up an no drone, amazing! I am switching to DT-40 which has far more lubricity to avoid/prolong time to borescore, but if I do get that I'll upgrade to a 4.0.

Consider doing the Gundi hack (small bypass pipes welded into the mufflers). Sounds fantastic and won’t drone!

No problem with Tiptronic gearbox, even though all the ‘wannabe’ racing drivers slate them. The Tip box is from Mercedes. I had a lot of Mercs before I got into Porsche. Never had a problem.. fast smooth gear changes.

I'm looking at a 2008 base Carrera C2 with a manual. I have heard they aren't as prone to bore scoring because of the cast pistons. Love the rear wiper on your car. Enjoyed the video.

I see C2 everywhere - what is that? 997.2 carrera base model but facelift model?

I have 997.1 S. Same color. First gear is very difficult at times. Not sure what causes that. I did change my manual transmission oil, but that did not fix the notchy gear shifting.

I drove a 997.1 2007 and the shifting was ultra smooth. When I had the same issue on my E36 M3 the output shaft on the trans (where the clutch disk slides) was rusty and not lubricated. Replaced w new clutch kit and cleaned and lubricated everything. Shifts smooth as butter.

Same but I’ve never had the clutch changed at 130k miles and I assume this will change when I change clutch

Apparently when the engine mounts start sagging it’s makes 1st and 2nd tricky.

How do you check oil level on 1st click?! My 997.2 only measures oil when it’s warmed up.

  • @-Grifter

I have to drive my 997.2 C2S PDK for about 20 mins to get oil to 90* before I can do the auto oil check. It’s a pain cause when you come back from a drive you can easily forget to do the reading. Also my drive is on a slope so I can’t do it there. 400ml is about 1 bar on the gauge. I need to top mine up but have a major service in 2 weeks. Should I bother as I think it will have an oil change then?

I have a 2007 997.1 C2S and agree on the transmission issue. Very clunky and shifting is not very smooth from 1st and 2nd gears. Maybe an adjustment or short shifter would fix it.

I test drove a 2007 997.1 and the shifts were smooth butter. Car had 70k miles so may have had clutch done already. Overall a great driving experience.

Did you clean (brass brush) and lubricate the output shaft? And all the pivot points?

I’m in the market for a ride just like yours other than black. If there’s little water coming out exhaust pipes should I be concerned?

    • @Rex_Racer
      @Rex_Racer 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

No, that’s just a byproduct of combustion. Once the entire exhaust warms up it won’t be visible.
