      i actually did reach out to him last year and he said-
      Thanks so much for the note! Sorry for the delay - been kind of swamped with offers and a lot of traveling, and I really appreciate yours!!!
      I’m not sure when I’ll be looking for a Cobra R like yours, but I’ve added you to my giant spreadsheet of people with cool cars for when I am… in which case, I’ll be in touch. I really appreciate you reaching out (and I’m glad you’re relatively close by!).
      Thanks again for the offer -- hopefully we’ll be in touch soon!
      Doug
      this was when he lived in philly, but i hope he reaches out to me. if more people request my car to him either through email or comments, hopefully that will motivate him to review it.

    I pulled up next to one the other day the same model as in the video. It sounded beasty & it walked off from the traffic light so easily with barely any throttle. I realized that stang is no joke. Mustangs are fast anyway. People talk shit about mustangs but 5.0's & Cobra mustangs will leave you in the dust.

      When Car & Drive road-tested the 2003-2004 Cobras for the first time, they were the fastest cars priced under $30K ever tested by that publication. Truly a pioneering vehicle...

      @jrvbamafan1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeorgiaBoy1961 when did they first test them, because every 03 cobra I ever saw including the one I owned for 4 years was $34,000+ new.

      @GeorgiaBoy1961 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrvbamafan1 - Hi Jason, I'd like to answer your question, but I don't have the publication in question - an auto magazine from almost twenty years ago - so no dice, sorry about that. I was around then and actually test drove a 2003 Cobra. Dealers were getting pretty good markups on them - so maybe the guy who wrote that article exaggerated a bit. Or didn't include taxes, fees, dealer mark-ups, and so on.

    These cobras torched the LS1 Camaro's and WS6 trans ams of the day.. those heads were way ahead of their time, great power and torque.. 5.4 vs 5.7, way more power.. imagine if the terminators had the 5.4 block and heads, they would have been 500 hp instead of 390hp.. damn..

      @stephenantonio3713 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@aidentorgerson3010 only 200 were made, true. My point was the motor, remember Camaros and TAs used the Corvette motor. Gt mustang's used the crown vic and f150 motor, so you are right, no comparison performance wise. But the mustang out sold the gm ponies 3 to 1. Another point to make is the exotic American motors of that year: viper gts 450 hp, Z06 385 hp, vette 345 hp-- so the little 5.4 stacks up against the big dogs..

      For the price it cost. You could modify a ws6 so it could blow the doors of the R easy. This car was made for a specific reason and the competition was the z06 at that time, and that car was a better car still. Still one of the my dream cars and one of the the very best stangs ever made. This car on the track, twisties was a bad mofo. What a beautiful car!

    I didn't realize the extent of the track-focused upgrades on the car, making it a totally different animal from the following 03-04 cobras. Hearing you list out the differences shows they were catering to a specific crowd that was much smaller in those days than it is now. The complete package you get for the value proposition it was still holds up today. What I feel sets it apart are what I consider the big 3: the cooling system upgrades including the oil cooler, power steering cooler and increased oil capacity, the brake upgrade to fixed calipers and the cooling ducts, and finally the upgraded chassis components as well as the stiffening that assuredly went along with them. Don't worry, some people do understand what you are trying to get across, especially those who have dealt with the issues most street cars face during extended track use. Very good explanation and what a gorgeous example of a Cobra R. Looks brand new.

    • @EnthusiastsGarage
      @EnthusiastsGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks man. Unfortunately the car doesn’t get the attention it deserves. If you could blindfold someone and put them behind the wheel they would never believe it’s a mustang. The car has its own unique feel and it handles more like a European car. check out my other videos for more on this car.

And move on a 2 years we used the 5.4L GT a inline 6 turbo and the the FPV Ford Performance Vehicles with all NA v8's inline 6 turbos and supercharged v8's a few grand in mods all easily get 1000+hp at the wheels check out a FPV F6 or FPV GT F

      Why do people think a 5.4 liter V8 is huge? In the first muscle car era in the U.S. around the 70's there were many cars using 8.0 liter V8's. Sure in our current day that is very rare except in towing vehicles. But I hardly think a 5.4 is massive. Think about the fact that a Lamborghini Gallardo uses a 5.2 V10 and that is considered a smaller V10, they did this so they could have a square or over square engine. Promotes free revving and higher redline. Also the F250 V10 (same truck that had the 5.4 V8 available in it, aside from it's younger brother F150) was a 6.8 liter V10. Then there is the 5th Gen Camaro Z28 which used a 7.0 liter V8 good for 505 NA HP, which is also a smaller physical engine than the Ford 5.4 Liter 4 cam engine. So it's by no means a massive engine. It is however big on the outside and takes up a hell of a foot print. This makes it not so great for swaps where as the 7.0 V8 Chevy LS7 would fit anywhere the 4.8 V8 Chevy LY2 and L20 (same engines one with Variable Valve Timing, one without it) both would fit in the same engine bay as the LS7 being basically the same size on the outside since they use the same general block design and castings and are all three noticebly smaller on the outside than this Ford Design. Just wanted to throw out some info about engine sizing since I did not think a 5.4 was considered huge. We are in an age where lots of cars are downsizing engines, but there was a time when engines were almost all 3.0 liters and above and we still have many Six cylinder cars that are in the 4.3 liter and 4.0 liter range barely smaller than the Mustangs base 4.6 V8 from this gen.

    Nice Cobra R. I've only seen a handful of these cars out on the street. The only thing I don't like about those cars is a spoiler, I think if they would have done the trunk lid from the 03 04 cobras
    would have looked way better on this car. I had an 03 supercharged Cobra it was a fun car, but didn't outrun nearly the amount of cars my LS1 Camaro did.

    wish they would have put na 4v 5.4s in more stangs than this one. the ls guys would have been shut up long before there was a coyote that's for sure. this thing was rated 385 hp I seen a bone stock one lay fown 377 whp so it's more like 430. beast of a car. only thing I don't understand about these cars is the weight even with all the stock weight savings they weigh over 3500 lbs which was more than a standard cobra weighed at the time. I understand it has a larger engine but still it seems off. beast car nonetheless

    • @EnthusiastsGarage
      @EnthusiastsGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Harris the radio and a/c system don’t weigh that much and using and iron block over aluminum made the weight savings a wash

    • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Enthusiasts Garage true but they also deleted the backseat the sound deadener and I'm sure the recaros probably weigh a little bit less then the stock seat in normal Mustangs it's not a lot but I still always felt like it was hard to believe they weighed over 3,500 lb despite the weight reduction when a normal Cobra is under 3500 lb but yeah I guess that makes sense. the 93 Cobra R was over a hundred pounds lighter than a standard Cobra at the time and it had similar weight savings done to it but it also had the same engine as the normal cobra

      But then again they have extremely low mileage. Guess I can’t be picky on mileage.

    • @EnthusiastsGarage
      @EnthusiastsGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      most sellers are asking that range but they usually dont sell. if you see the ones sold at auction or on ebay they will typically hammer under 50. the only ones that go above that are very clean cars with super low miles.

      Enthusiasts Garage I know I'm just a asshole I had to see how many pony boys got mad lol I understand it's rare and valuable any real car guy knows that you should keep it factory and take care of it. My mom's best friend has 2002 Ws6 that her husband bought her when I was 12 (2002) and it's been garage kept it's her baby and has around 20,000 miles. I'm thinking in 25-30 years 4th gen F-body's the SS's and WS6's and cobras are going to be worth some money
