The word that can define Elvis is eternal.
Over the years ,the difference between Elvis and others is that he made his music eternal. His greatness, is that he manages to cause emotion through the screen and evokes power which is amazing in my eyes. He is really second to none.

I remember years ago, I was watching one of Elvis’s performances, from around this period, the way he moved appeared to be like a wave in tune with the music.
In recent years, I saw a YT comment by Dr. Brewster , who was Elvis’s church choir director. One of the things he said was,
‘Elvis was a bundle of energy, set to music.’
To me, that perfectly described what I had felt about him.
    Thank you for sharing!

Also, notice how the woman who gave him the gift is from India. Sammy Davis Jr made the comment that when Elvis performed people came from ALL OVER THE WORLD! He had never heard of that before--no other entertainer brought people in regularly from all over the world. The tone of his voice touched people and He spoke the universal language of love through music.
I also like the way you pointed out his enunciation-he was a master at that and it goes way back. On the recording of the Million Dollar quartet you can hear Elvis telling Jerry and Carl about how he went to see a group sing in Las Vegas, with Jackie Wilson performing some of Elvis’s hits and how he pronounced “telephone” in his performance of Don’t Be Cruel-Elvis was fascinated by it and was singing it for the guys. It’s great!

Again, a stellar reaction. I love this song, but seeing Elvis perform it brings it to a whole different level. I've loved Elvis a very, very long time. Beginning with his early movie career, so for quite a while, the movie songs were all I knew. I was standing by the doorway one day and heard someone in the house close by playing a record. My ear knew it sounded like Elvis, but different. I went over and asked the person what they were playing, I was probably in my mid-teens, and they showed me the "Elvis, That's the Way it Is" album. I did every chore in the world to save up enough money to buy that album. I still get goosebumps to this very day hearing songs from that album, of which Just Pretend was one. I still own it to this day, but it's pretty well worn out. Some of the movie songs were good, but I wish I could convey to you how hearing these really good songs made me feel. As much as I relish all the wonderful songs he gave us from 1970 until he passed in 1977, I truly regret the missed 8 movie years. What we have from 1955 to 1959 and 1970 to 1977 is the tip of the iceberg and I so would have liked the movies to be interspersed with live performances. But this performance was, for sure, a golden one.

Hi Mike! I just absolutely love Elvis and I so appreciate your reactions. Someone once said that to really enjoy something you have to share it-I think it doubles our joy and you certainly double mine. You are my favorite-I like the way you stop and make such informed comments-you notice all the things we love about Elvis and, as you said, see why his fans are so devoted to him. He was not only an extremely talented artist but we all felt like we knew him-he was vulnerable and so giving.
This is an amazingly powerful song and no-one has ever done it better justice than Elvis. I don’t know the technical term but I love his vocalization toward the end along with the music--he was just music incarnate.
I still recommend “New Orleans” from King Creole-it is crazy-Elvis does some amazing things in that song-even a bit of scatting. You would really appreciate that song-and the whole soundtrack--he is pure magic.

Sir, you picked up on many very very important and at times to people, hidden secrets of what made Elvis great. You were spot on with his enunciation. I had notice that in almost every song he has. I always wondered how and where did he pick up that clear enunciation and pronunciation, as if he came from a well educated background, and yet we know he grew up poor to below middle class and coming from the South, and yet, here we have a man who seemed he went through voice diction classes and university. Incredible. Another item you pointed out was the power of his voice when the mic was down and still audible. Breath control was amazing on this song too. All those points can only be seen and caught by actual musicians and/or a keen sense of hearing with the understanding of voice control. Nice going and congrats on your insight. One appreciates true music when one has this quality of listening.

Great job! I suggest you react to a few songs from his last recorded concert 77, Hurt, Unchained Melody, How Great Thou Art. He wasn't in good shape and his stage fright due to the filming was quite evident but his vocals were amazing. His voice was even more seasoned than his 70 and 73 concert videos. Also Aloha from Hawaii song "What Now My Love".

Hey Mike, I knew that you would Love this beautiful performance from Elvis I actually requested it for you to react to , I have another suggestion for you by Elvis, it's called Loving Arms, there is no video in concert , just beautiful clips and the most Beautiful words of the World of Elvis, never gets old for me and you said it, He is a super hero , that is exactly what he was to me growing up in a small town in Tennessee, and I was just a child who loved Elvis so much and I believed that he was always going to be here, I was lucky enough to witness the Mystic and Magic of This Beautiful MAN, on 3 occasions and that first time in Knoxville Tennessee on April 8 72,was the best day of my life, I was only 11 years old and my nickname in elementary school was MS Elvis, so he just keeps on giving the World his music and mystic like no other artist ever will. Thank you for another great reaction to Elvis and keep on TCB like my main man Elvis does forever and Always TCB 1935

A few random thoughts on this performance:
last i checked, about a year ago, "Bahega" is still around and painting.
"Just Pretend" was not a commercial success when released in 1970 but has become an absolute fan favorite in Elvis world 50+ yrs later.
As you said, Elvis' body movements add so much, such as when he reaches down low ("and love you again!")
Personally, i think Elvis' run at the end: "Oh, oh, oh..." is the single greatest vocal moment of his career.
There is a complete acapella version of this performance on TH-cam, really makes you appreciate his voice
    Great review.

Bob Dylan was actually a huge Elvis fan. He credits Elvis being the guy that inspired him to pursue a career in music. Quote: "The first time I heard Elvis it was like busting out of jail."
And you might be interested to know in the middle of his second Gospel recording session for his album "How Great Thou Art" Elvis recorded a Bob Dylan song in 1966: "Tomorrow Is A Long Time". Elvis never sang it live but as as a Bob Dylan fan and as now an EP fan I think you would get a lot of pure enjoyment reacting to that one.
Bob Dylan said about Elvis's recording of his song and I quote, "The one I treasure the most."
Now Elvis did sing a Gordon Lightfoot cover live during the January 12, 1973 Honolulu concert filming (long story in Elvis history but the January 14, 1973 Honolulu concert is the one that did actually air. The January 12, 1973 Honolulu concert filming was meant to be the back up just in case there were any kerfuffles with the already planned one).
Anyways, the Gordon Lightfoot cover Elvis did was "Early Morning Rain". He also recorded the song and it was released on his Elvis Now album.
Gordon Lightfoot was another big Elvis fan and he said that the first time he heard Elvis sing his song was on the radio when he was driving. He said he was so excited that he nearly drove his car into the roadside ditch and almost hit a tree.
Gordon Lightfoot also almost got to meet Elvis at one of his concerts. But he said that by the time he got backstage Elvis was surrounded by fans and his bodyguards looked as though they were overwhelmed. He said he never got to meet him in person and that he lived to regret it. He now has an original Elvis Now album on his desk and still claims that it is his most prized possession.
And yes Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan are really good friends apparently. When they met each other for the first time Gordon Lightfoot said he was surprised by Bob Dylan's answer when he asked him who was his biggest influence.
Bob Dylan told him, "Elvis Presley."
    Gordon Lightfoot was like, "REALLY?"
Bob Dylan was like, "Yeah, really."
Anyways, here is the link to Elvis's 1966 recording of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow Is A Long Time": th-cam.com/video/j7GCw5v3HI8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kv4pviuU6qMWQes-
I should add here that Elvis's cover of Bob Dylan's song first appeared on one of his movie soundtracks "Spinout" hence the album cover you will see in the link. This was not Elvis's decision to bury that recording. It could have been management's doing since any song independent of a movie soundtrack might hurt the sales of the movie soundtrack album.
    GREAT reaction!
And yes "Just Pretend" is an older country song. Kudos to you for getting that!

Great analysis again Mike. The Las Vegas Summer Festival 1970 was such a strong engagement. Just imagine a concert with Suspicious Minds, I Just Can't Help Believing, Just Pretend, Polk Salad Annie (you have not reacted to yet), In The Ghetto (dito), I Can't Stop Loving You, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, I've Lost You and Bridge Over Troubled Over Water all in one setlist. That's what he did. Twice a day. From August 10 to September 7, 1970, Elvis performed 58 concerts on the level you are watching for the first time in 2024. Isn't that level, intensity, and frequency only plain incredible? Elvis shouting out "C'mon man!" at 5:09 in your video was an act of dissatisfaction. The tempo of the song in that part was somewhat slower than rehearsed and Elvis urged the band to speed up the performance a tad.

This is one of my favorite Elvis songs, I actually searched for this live performance for my playlist, it is so much more powerful than the studio version. Right now, I find myself on a Elvis country phase. If you would like to give audio a chance there are two really fun country songs I recommend:

A fun rehearsal session at th-cam.com/video/GJo3O3QIBJk/w-d-xo.html (4:21) is entitled "Elvis Presley in the studio, 1970." When you mentioned his enunciation it reminded me of a song entitled "Let Me Be There" -- the particular version at th-cam.com/video/5dThI46PsGc/w-d-xo.html is lyrics on the screen, not live but his pronunciation is so clear, & the audio quality is very good. There is another version w-film from an audience member but sound quality not as good & he did not do the full ending. If you should listen to it be aware that when he stops & you think it's over, it isn't -- there's another few minutes where he gives it that real oomph finish. And would you believe there’s also a version where someone stupidly sped it up! Thanks for this.

A little side not. When He said come on Man and looked over at the band He was pissed that either the drummer or one of the guitarists messed up and U see Him at the end directing the band with His hands in a very pissed off way.Great reaction and channel

      lol what!?!?
      elvis was not pissed
he was just into it and cheerleading the guys as in "let's go"
elvis was a professional & has massive respect for the people he shared the stage with he would never express anger towards them especially on stage
whenever there WAS a mistake by him or anyone else he'd turn it into a joke & laugh it off
where in the world are you getting your info!?

@@belinda35_77 taken from Charlie Hodge He said that during that performance He never ever witnessed Elvis pissed off on stage. You can see when He turns to the band He was pissed. You might know more than Charlie though,,Where You on stage and there.I didn't think so,,do Your research before You critisize.Charlie Hodge knew Him better than anyone and if He said that's why He said that then I BELEIVE Him.

      ive seen elvis 3 times
      when i was 8, 11 & 15
      1970, 1973 & 1976
been a fan my entire life but that doesn't make me any kind of expert & the same goes for you lol
i love charlie but he said a lot of "things"
you can see in this performance there is nothing but joy coming from elvis
i swear y'all are so dramatic sometimes
      also
about him never being angry on stage is completely untrue
elvis had many nights on stage where he didn't hide that he was angry about something but it was never about or towards the people on stage with him though at times especially in the latter years he was often mean to them
on one occasion it actually caused kathy, myrna & sylvia to walk off stage and not return one evening
charlie was often a whipping post for elvis on stage too
when elvis was angry or in a bad mood there was no mistaking it
so unfortunately i don't believe charlie is remembering correctly here saying that
how anyone could think his little "c'mon" here is anger is just ridiculous

All His performances were joy,and no one comes close and He's the best ,,I never like to post anything because We have ppl like U who want to say something did not happen and I tend to BELEIVE a Guy that was His right hand Man.I listen to Elvis everyday it does not make Me an expert.I know a million things about the Man and I seen Him twice in 74 and 76 but it does not make Me an expert.I happen to be watching One of Charlie's last interview and that's what He said.I never throw negative towards Elvis and defend the Man when someone says bullshit about Him.But wen I see a Guy being interviewed Who was His closest than I think I BELEIVE His story and that's the only reason I posted it.But U always get someone like Yourself Who thinks They were there and I'm suppose to listen to You. You always got the political guy or the expert that shoots down a story that the Guy that was with Him everyday told.Nothing negative,,nothing bad about it but U always get a person wanting to make something out of nothing.Charlie said it I seen it and posted a little side note about Why He said that and was pissed.Charlies words not mine so stop making something dramatic.Oh unless You have pictures of Yourself on stage that night playing with Elvis..Such a drama Queen and this is why a lot of ppl don't post because You have ppl like U that know more than the Guy who spent half His life with Him.This is the World We live in today woke and cancel culture.Charlie said it so that's that and I think He knows a little more than You or Me.U can't even put a known fact out there these days because of the ppl who LOVE to have Drama,,He said it not Me and I put it out there as a interesting fact.I always wondered what happened when He said that and looked over at the band and now I know by someone that was standing next to Him onstage.Stop the Drama it's why the world is like it is..ONCE AGAIN I THINK I BELEIVE CHARLIE AND HE HAS TOLD A MILLION STORIES AND I BELEIVE THEM ALL,,HE WAS THERE,,U WERE NOT SO END OF STORY AND STOP MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING.IM STILL LEARNING NEW THINGS 50 YRS AFTER I STARTED LISTENING TO ELVIS AND I GET MY FACTS FROM CHARLIE OR RONNIE TUT OR JERRY SCHILLING OR HIS COUSIN BILLY SMITH OR GEORGE KLEIN OR LAMAR FINK OR JOE ESPOSITO OR MARTY LACKER AND THATS THE ONLY PLACE I GET MY FACTS BY WATCHING INTERVIEWS WITH THEM AND I THINK THEY KNOW BETTER THAN YOU BECAUSE THEY WERE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
