    The thing about Jungkook is that he was inspired primarily by western male R&B-Popstars. Chris Brown, Usher, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Omarion and Justin Timberlake are who he grew up on and who he was influenced by so I don’t understand that criticism when that’s pretty much the foundations of what and why he does what he does.

    • @Lonadurn
      @Lonadurn 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +104

      Absolutely. Also there’s so many people complaining that male singers aren’t giving performance and vocals or simply aren’t trying to entertain and here’s Jungkook showing he’s influenced by the greats. The comparisons were always going to happen like they do with Tate and Britney for example, so he just leaned into them. This is just first solo album. Also, Asian artists are always going to face big barriers unless they sound accessible, hopefully he changes it up now that he has more name ID.

    I kinda have to disagree with the person saying Billie will be limited with her brother as her sole career producer. I think a great example is Shania Twain. All of her prime discography for a solid decade is diverse and some of the highest selling country, all produced by her and her ex-husband. Also Janet who pretty exclusively worked with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and has one of the most diverse catalogues in Pop and R&B. Both of those ladies first two albums had very similar sounds then they went crazy after that. So Billie still needs more time

    about Jungkook, while I enjoyed his album, I do agree that out of all bts members his album seemed the least personal, but like you said, I think this issue will go away eventually and he'll find his own unique color. I think it could be due to the fact he debuted as a soloist kinda late imo and spent all his teenage years as a band member. He also said he didn't feel like releasing any personal music at the moment, but perhaps after military enlistment and more experience, he'll open up to it. I look forward to his future projects.
    edit: I forgot to add, but about "jungkook hasn't contributed to the industry" part, I feel like it's too early to even talk about it. He only just debuted as a solo artist, he has 1 album. Idk what kind of contribution the commenter was expecting. Right now, it would probably just be more exposure to kpop.

    With Jungkook's debut, I wasn't surprised that his songs were very Western-leaning when it came to the genres he chose (based on the producers and the announcement that all songs would be in English). He's known to have been creating a mixtape around 2022 (I think, maybe even earlier) but he apparently deleted the songs bc he wasn't satisfied with them and wanted to start fresh. For an interview, he said that he didn't have anything to say in particular so he didn't want to release any solo music (in 2023) but he was approached by Bang Si Hyuk PD and Scooter Braun, who sort of warmed him up to the idea of releasing a solo EP debut. He agreed and picked out the songs and everything but it's clearly not his work in the sense that his essence isn't in the EP, even though he definitely performed his best. That being said, it's healthy for him to realize that he didn't have anything to say and took a step back and let pop professionals write for him bc realistically whatever he releases will make him and HYBE money no matter what it is. I'm excited for his next solo work though, bc I'd guess that he'd have a more hands on approach.

    • @crystalsnow1138
      @crystalsnow1138 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      Some people are acting as if Golden will be Jungkook's only solo release. He's got his whole life to grow as a person and as an artist. If he wasn't ready to write an album or simply didn't want to write an album that's his choice to make. I remember during a livestream a fan asked if he was going to make music in Korean again and he said something like of course I'm Korean aren't I. Are the songs on his album groundbreaking? No, but I still thoroughly enjoyed his album. I think he might've done things a bit differently he wasn't on a time crunch before enlisting in the military. I also remember him saying initially the album was going to be a mini album but he just kept recording songs and the album became 10 songs. The man can sing and perform and I might be a little biased in that he would literally sing the phone book and I would still love it. And I've also seen people check out Jungkook because of his solo collabs and then they will check out BTS and/or the other member's solo work.

    • @snowy-zx8kk
      @snowy-zx8kk 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@crystalsnow1138 I agree with that. I feel like the part where the commenter ranted about how he hasn't contributed anything significant to the industry is unfair. He only has one album lol. What kind of grownbreaking contribution where they expecting? Those kinds of conversations come when an artist has already established themselves. We should have it after a couple of albums.

    • @angelakiprevski7352
      @angelakiprevski7352 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@crystalsnow1138 Yeah, I enjoyed the album as well. I admit a lot of them didn't strike me on first listen but they're really catchy and easy to listen to so I found myself going back to them, even the songs I didn't like at first became songs I listen to often. I think it's up to expectations. It's okay not to like one of the members releases and call it a day, but instead some fans are saying that 'this isn't Jungkook' or something. He chose for the album to be less personal (in terms of themes/lyrical content) so I'm sure there's a reason (timing probably being one of them). I think that bc he's Jungkook these songs that are quite generic realistically, were able to still have an impact that wouldn't happen if a run-of-the-mill pop artist from America/UK had released them. He has his own performance style and he's Jungkook from BTS. He can do whatever he wants and he'll still be loved/get hated on regardless lol.

    29:02 actually there have always been writers in rap even in the beginning. Some rap founders were given their raps. It was always who could carry the bravado who had the charisma. Writing your own raps didn’t really become super important until the 90s rap renaissance.

    Autograph signing is still very much a thing in the UK especially London, record stores often have signings whenever an artists has a release, most times they also perform 3/4 songs from said album.
    It helps with sales especially on release because you have to buy the record as your ticket to the show. I’ve seen RAYE, NAO, Joy Crookes and quite a few more in record store signings. So maybe it isn’t a thing in America anymore ….
    However these signings definitely take time as you have the queue after the show for a pic and what not so maybe the artist doesn’t always have time when it comes to releasing new music and touring

  • @britthunt5707
    @britthunt5707 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That is a good point about artists and song lyrics, either writing, or not writing, or partially writing with other song writers, that it does not really matter, or diminish one's talent at all, if they are not writing all, or most of their own lyrics. Although, it is a commendable skill and talent, creating lyrics for any songs, regardless if it is for themselves or for another artist to sing. I think a lot of artists ( and their fans) place too much significance on "if" they write all their lyrics or not. The most important aspect of creating a song, is being able to understand what makes the best version of of it, and sometimes that means using someone else's lyrics. That makes the artist, even more of a true artist, not less, because they are able to recognize that maybe their lyrics did not work as well for the song than the lyrics written by another. Having the humility, and desire for artistic excellence, to use the "best" lyrics for the song is a huge talent in itself. Very few artists have every talent rolled up in a perfect self contained package. It is unrealistic to expect any artist to have pitch perfect powerful vocals, completely self written masterful lyrics, creating the catchiest and most sonically pleasing melodies and harmonies, then having stage the presence to effectively perform these songs, including all the dancing or other choreography that goes into it, and not to forget the instruments some play, and then to have it all come in a very physically attractive package... it is a rare occurrence for one person to embody it all. Some artists have their egos get in the way, and don't like to admit that they are having some assistance in the lyric writing, or other parts of the song writing process, which is sad because some of our most iconic, most outstandingly successful, and most beloved talents of all time have not written any of their own lyrics, and still managed to outshine most of their contemporaries that do write all their own lyrics.

Plus after he said that he didn’t feel like he had anything to say personally through music, it makes sense that he just chose to go with a theme for his first solo album. Any solo music made by JK prior to his solo album has been mostly fan songs or songs about his experiences growing up so maybe eventually we will see more of that after he’s had more experiences in life.

    Billie has said (more than once) that she can't imagine herself creating music with anyone other than Finneas, not just because he's her brother, but mostly because she feels happy and comfortable doing so with someone she loves and trusts, so she can be honest and vulnerable throughout the process. I think pairing her with another producer would only lead to her losing the greatest qualities of her music that set her apart from all other mainstream artists: the vulnerability, the 'homemade' feel of her songs and the delivery of her vocals (that always feel so honest and intimate). The idea that you can always make more numbers is kinda obnoxious and pretentious, especially when she's already doing great numbers. It doesn't seem like giving it away her signature style would improve her artistry. But who knows... it can be someone out there who can provide such an atmosphere of writing and recording that'll feel right for her. We'll see

    YES FREE DOECHII! WHERE IS HER ALBUM SHE PROMISED BY THE END OF 2023? I was a big fan of her and I promise she changed so much with TDE. It just doesn't even sound like her. Please don't turn this into another Chlöe incident, Doechii is too precious and TDE needs to get their shit together.
    She also very likely could be taking her time to perfect the big debut full LP. I hope it's that one. She was on-record in an interview over a full year ago, and she was explaining her upcoming album IN DETAIL as if it was almost already finished, and she promised with full conviction that it would be out by the end of 2023. She was very sincere in her tone when she said that, and she was speaking to her fans directly. When I see how TDE held back SZA's SOS for YEARS just to make more money from Ctrl. Seems like a pattern to me, TDE is mostly men, and I don't think they are good at working with or managing the women they sign.

    When a movie comes out, no one complains that multiple people worked on it. They don’t sit there saying to the lead actor that they didn’t write, direct, play every character, and edit the movie. Music is a collaborative process, you might have an amazing voice but have no idea how to write a catchy beat. One producer might be doing the final mixing process and retiming to make the song sound good, which is highly technical. You’re not untalented for using a team to produce a song. The only people who think that are people who know nothing about the music making process and are, very likely, untalented themselves.

    The billie production opinion really tells you how people's view of success is so skewed. Firstly, she is so damn successful so like wdym😭😭 Secondly, the core of her music is based on intimacy and authenticity I doubt she would want to work with any other producer. She doesn't need to experiment with other producers to be successful (unless she wants to ofc), that doesn't work for everyone. I don't think it would help her brand or her music. There are so many ways to be successful and as long as she keeps the core of her music but keeps exploring new genres in a controlled and comfortable space, she'll be good, even great. And her brother knows how to maintain that core of her music, the identity of it.

    Also, the opinion about children and legacies is spot on. Unless you have something of value to pass down (money, fame, a special trade), your legacy isn't worth a damn. I also feel like the more children you have, especially outside of committed relationships, the more you water down your legacy (looking at you, Nick Cannon). I think that's why the wealthy tend to have less children, despite being able to afford having more.

I love her albums, dedicated, dedicated side B, the loneliest time and the loveliest time. I think she’s fine how she is.

    3. Yeah rap is definitely different because it started out as a direct reflection of folks experiences or their dreams. Yes there were alot of conceptualized songs but it was heavily relative to their lives. Rnb singers it's different because while so many of them can write and or play piano alot of the earlier acts came up in church or theater where they knew how to convey an emotion even if the song didn't really reflect their life. And POP definitely hardly even feels like it's meant to be that deep lol. Pop it doesn't matter as long as it's catchy and we'll produced.

I love the magic they make together and how they have managed to give us so many different yet fresh sounds. But I also can’t help but wonder how it would it be for her to branch out to other producers. I just feel like she has the potential to bring back the essence and appeal of the 2000s / y2k music landscape in a way that none of the other pop girls could do. if she worked with timbaland or danja hills, I could very much see a “Loose” Nelly Furtado trajectory for her. and it would be her third studio album too and right in line for a sort of “good girl gone bad” arc of her career especially now that she’s already given us some of her most intimate and vulnerable pieces of work…I don’t know just some food for thought and something that’s been on my mind for a while 😭😭

Not saying having/wanting children is bad, just saying only the parents benefit from it. Based on the state that our world is in, no child benefits from being born. You can’t even argue that it helps keep the human race alive because a) the world is overpopulated and b) we’re literally killing the planet. Adoption would be the only selfless option tho imo.

    I would love Billie Eilish to work with Timbaland or The Neptunes. Hell even Salaam Remi, his work with Amy Winehouse during Frank was amazing. I really want her to one-up the dark Hip-Hop influence of her debut and soft R&B/Soul influences from her EP and HTE but play into a more urban appeal.
    Timbaland & The Neptunes play with alot of genres like Finneas, they already have this edgy sound into R&B that feels like it works with Billie's brand (Kelis, Aaliyah and Britney Spears come to mind) and I feel like both can really push her to go into more statement pop singles again like her Debut era. I want another moment for Billie, one that's sultry and rhythmic that shows she's still the bad girl sad girl (srry if that sounds cringey but lets be honest that's her niche) but more grown. HTE hinted at moments like these but it was all over the place for ME (Oxytocin was the worst offender lol but Billie Bossa Nova & NDA ate)
    She's already big enough to work with them too, I remember her being in a studio with Timbaland and his protege Perto once so there's a possibility!

    I agree what you said about Carly Rae, I don't think she really wants the Taylor Swift level of fame, because as great as that sounds to have that kind of fame it is a double edged sword that can demolish a person's mental health. Once you are any where near the level of fame, you get all the people who despise you weighing in on every word you utter, and every word you don't. As many fans that someone like Taylor has, the number of non fans or out right haters, greatly exceeds the number of fans. Artists like Carly, who have a large and loyal fan base, kind of sit in a sweet spot of having a successful career, but not so much as that it irritates the non fans or haters. One of the reasons Carly doesn't have a lot of "haters" weighing in, is because she is not forever in their face everyday, so they seldom feel the need to express their darker unpleasant feelings about her. I think Taylor might have been a happier person if her career was more like Carly's, although she would probably argue with that assessment. The higher you climb, the farther you have to fall, and the harder you have to strive to stay there. I think Carly is happy right where she is.

    ...been a while since I have seen "princes and the frog", but I think its one of the most suited stories to age their characters up without it being strange (Tiana is working full time like a grown adult and her goal is to open up a restaurant). This would be the absolut least of my problems 😂
    Regarding: casting voice actor = actor... I don't know about that. If the voice actor is a good actor and matches the vision good enough (e.g. VAs of children in The Simpsons 😂)
    My main problems with Life-Action is:
    - Good ones look like a too long commercial for the animation studio
    - feels cheap esp. Carbon copies of the story or how the deviations from the original are made/written (feels ironical...)
    => Esp. the 1:1 copies make me incredibly sad and sometimes even angry as a cartoon/"full" animation fan...
    The storyboards at that time were written for that medium and YOU CAN TELL because amazing artists worked on it! A lot does not translate as well into life-action and forcing it feels like disdaining cartoons and non-hyperrealistic animation...
    Regarding Life-Action Adaptation:
    With the Alligator and the crazy firefly being animals I am not too sure how much you would have to change/adapt the story board to increase Tiana's human time.
    For that it would be great if they could somehow integrate e.g. flashbacks in a pace-fitting way.
    (=> by extending the story to extend the proportion/percentage of her human-time in the film)

      "Good *looking ones look like a commercial" -> I mean the Lion King remake and how it was due to the hyperrealism not allowed to show emotions as well as the original cartoon 🙃
      The trailers already got on my nerves and from reviews I got my confirmation that it was indeed as expressive as stale bread compared to the original cartoon...
      But hey... at least at that time their animations and special effects looked well made... 🙃
      Hence the commercial

    When I saw Saltburn in the roster, I thought it was gonna be about “Murder on the Dancefloor”.
    I know I sound stupid af but I got into that song a long time ago and it’s weird af to hear it everywhere.
