- Poundland Nooky pills and a washing machine cable and interference suppression module. That sounds like a good night to me.
Note that at the point of editing this I'm possibly feeling the slightly elevating effects of those pills. That and a bit of indigestion. Sadly there's no sign of a full-on bear chubby yet though.
The interference suppressor taken apart for our edutainment was not actually from my washing machine. It's a second hand part bought on eBay.
I've just checked the capacitor values with a meter and they are all in tolerance, so it would have been fully usable if I hadn't thoroughly dismantled it.

The Nooky pill ingredients read a lot like "metabolism boosting" "fat burner" exercise pills.
They are exactly the same thing, the differences between the two types are just differences in brand recipes/production.
None of these pills do what they claim to do, they just slightly stimulate dopamine (reward) receptors with the caffeine (in laymans terms, the actual pharmacological processes of caffeine are beyond the scope of this reply), which can make whatever you do after you take them feel more rewarding (even if you actually perform worse, as moderate to high doses of dopamine [for men] can cause temporary impotence), which makes it more likely you will buy the pills again.
If you notice, they also rely heavily on marketing and branding. Since all the pills are more or less the same, the marketing and brand is what really carries the value of the product, as the pills themselves can be produced for pennies.
Mix that with the desperate state that a fat or impotent person might be in to fix their "problem", and it just becomes a money for pleasure trap similar to drugs, gambling, etc.

In the U.S. at least, A lot of herbal "male-enhancement" capsules actually do contain PDE5 inhibitors(viagra, Cialis) even though they aren't listed on the ingredients. You can tell pretty easily because you get a stuffy nose as a side effect, along with more, noticeable effects... It's strange that you can buy capsules that contain unlisted pharmaceutical drugs that are illegal to posses without a prescription from major chain gas stations, but it's just one of those things society turns a blind eye to, at least until the media decides to launch a campaign saying that teenagers are getting addicted to truck stop boner pills.

You might check to see if your data/HDMI cables run parallel to mains power cables for any significant length. This can cause the issue you're describing with video signals being interrupted.
I have a mini fridge in my room and when it kicks off my computer's audio makes a loud popping noise. This makes me wonder what other effects this may be having on my system.
Stevy My computers audio does the same any time the air conditioning kicks on, I believe it's just a minor power surge that could be resolved by getting a surge protector and running my computer through it, doesn't really fix the problem with the houses wiring or anything like that but it's definitely a lot cheaper
I used to listen to foriegn radio stations in the kitchen & when I turned on the hot water tap it would cause interference. It took me a while to realise it was the boiler coming on that did it.

I would think that the leading reactive power from all these little suppression capacitors would be more than overwhelmed by the huge lagging reactive power of even a single modestly-sized induction motor or fluorescent lighting fixture. If anything I would be glad to have a few extra capacitive VARs hanging about when possible.

There's a soda called guarana antarctica available in some UK shops. I was attracted by the label - but it didn't put any more lead than usual in my pencil.... not sure I'd recommend it for 5 year olds either tho
Guarana Antarctica is a bit nasty, tastes like chernobyl reactor water would taste during meltdown.
There are better brands of guarana-based sodas, and one of my favorites, and probably the less horrible-tasting would be Pureza, Guaraná Pureza.

You make mistake about explanation CM choke. In normal operation this choke is not needed so magnetic fluxes making by winding in phases L(source) and N(sink) are opposite direction (near zero inductance). When CM currents appear L and N are sources and creates magnetic flux (we want huge inductance to decouple it from grid), PE are sink. BR, MB.
That's my understanding of how a common mode choke too, when fed from the grid it has a very high impedance to 50/60Hz voltage between the two windings on the ferrite core but when high frequency noise is introduced that will effectively be shunted by the much lower impedance due to the much higher frequencies of the noise you want rid if.
At least that's how I understand them.
This works both ways so you can also use a CM choke to get rid of noise on the grid that might cause issues to sensitive equipment.
My understanding is the differential mode current will create magnetic fields in opposite directions causing it to cancel out. No magnetic field, no back EMF, no inductance - effectively zero impedance. But if you have a common mode spike, then the magnetic fields re-enforce each other and present a high impedance. At least, that's how it would work if the concern is common mode noise. I think you need to pull out the coil and see how it's wound. Just remember right-hand rule and the current is flowing in opposite directions.

There should be two more arrows next to the first two, pointing in the opposite direction (cancelling out). For a common mode signal, the arrows would no longer cancel out. Assuming I understand everything correctly…
How I saw coils drawn: from L = over-under. From N left to right = over-under, like a mirror image of top coil.

I can vouch for L-Arginine but taking it just before "playtime" does nothing! You have to take it every day for a couple of days (at least 3), best combined with Zinc. It is very noticeable in regards to 'firmness'. The gf notices if I took it without me telling her!!! (I just do it from time to time for a few days)

Caffeine Citrate's useful in managing paediatric respiratory distress syndrome (also known as SIDS - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). It helps to increase respiratory drive (rate). Hate to disappoint you, Clive, but that concoction's no substitute for Sildenafil (Viagra, etc), which is now off-patent (so a lot cheaper than the "Little Blue Pills from Pfizer"). Where I work, we get through a LOT of Sildenafil - most of our elderly, respiratory cripples are on 10mg three times a day (Pulmonary Hypertension).

Lionel - that's certainly wishful thinking! Since our "Customers" are pretty well "in the Grim Reaper Waiting Room" - with exercise tolerances of 5 metres on the flat, NYHA Grade 4 heart failure, and Pulm. HTN / oedema, the "other benefit" of Sildenafil's is more like wishful thinking! Also, since they're on a fairly constant dosage, "that" effect is actually pretty uncommon. We do see the rarer side-effects though, such as blue vision changes (about 10% of users), and we've had a single case of irreversible blindness (in a 98 year old lady, mind you!)
Isn't it a "frowned upon" practise to use a mechanical mounting as the earth connection for the chassis that the module is mounted TO? If that thing fell off the machine would continue to operate but would have no earth. Comment?
I think that's why there were two additional terminals on the earth block, they are for attaching the real earth wires too all of the other gubbins inside the machine. The mechanical grounding via the two mounting screws onto through the earth block are for earthing the chassis of the machine to make it safe to touch.
I'm pretty sure the last washing machine I looked into had a very similar arrangement where the motors and controllers had direct connections to the earth block so they were not relying on the mechanical fix to the chassis as that can fail over time due to mechanical stresses or corrosion.

The earth plate has other tabs for the machine's main earth wires. The chassis mounting is a mechanical fixing that also has a grounding effect.
Lots of things are dangerous if they "fell off". Anything critical should have a mechanical mounting too, instead of just wire.

There are multiple xanthine like compounds. The effect is a bit like ephedrine. They really mean it where it reads "not to be used by... high blood pressure, heart disease, or sleep problems". You can end up in an agitated, jittery state especially if your blood sugar drops, so I wouldn't recommend following their instruction to take these on an empty stomach until you've tried them with a little in your stomach on a test run.
I suppose it would be a good idea to wire up the Mother-in-law to the Interference Suppressor, before taking the pills!
Not sure if it helps people to know, but when measuring tiny quantities, you are better off making a solution of known concentration, then using that for your measurements.
Even with ug scales, measuring tiny amounts is difficult, since the amount is so small, it is easy to accidentally double your dose.
The solution is to measure in teaspoon, or, as i prefer, shot sized aliquots. (I may be wrong about using aliquot for this, I learned it using tiny samples of toxin in a lab I worked in.)
To make an aliquot of anhydrous caffeine, take 3g (about 2 teaspoons, but you should measure this on a scale that measures in milligrams) and add it to 500ml water.
You now have a solution of 6mg/ml of caffeine solution. I still like to work with large volumes for precision, so I then add 15ml (half a shot) of this solution to 2l of home made soda for a final concentration of 45ug per ml or 45mg/litre.
Since coke is about 95.8mg/l, I am using just under half the caffeine of coke, with no need to measure tiny quantities.

You saying about the coffee overdose made me think of a episode of gmm, where they told the tale of the British university that was doing some caffine base studies and thanks to getting the decimal point wrong a couple of researchers ended up being given a massive dose, "I may be wrong" lol but I'm sure it was 300 cups of coffee worth of caffeine they ended up getting now that would give you some time bending shakes!

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on "smart" meters. I'm sceptical about them and the real reasons why they are being pushed so hard, and there have been various problems reported with them massively over-reading, but there's also a lot of far-fetched conspiracy theories out there. It would be great if you could do a video about them covering what's actually different about them compared to regular meters, why they've been over-reading, whether they can be trusted going forward, etc. Thanks!
Ignore the conspiracy theories. The meters are saving the power companies the cost of employing meter readers and giving them the very annoying option of switching the meters remotely to bill for apparent power, which will suddenly double the cost of running many electronic items.

I spent my 20s consuming 800+ mg of caffeine anhydrous daily .... Now in my mid 30s i have multiple G. I. Track issues... Possibly coincidence, but probably not.
Wow... Theobromine is a xanthine like, but not as strong as caffeine. So it is using a hunk of stimulant. An AVERAGE cup of coffee has 95-100 mg caffeine. (tea about half that. Espresso has more, but the serving is much smaller.) The guarana provides 44mg caffeine, the anhydrous provides 100mg. That amount of theobromine is unlikely to even be felt. It takes around 250mg average to be noticed. Saw palmetto has alpha blockers with can help with prostate issues, and may slightly decrease (very slightly) male pattern baldness... but studies have found it no better than placebo for ED. Caffeine may modestly improve ED, especially if related to daily fatigue...the dose required being 170 to nearly 400mg. So, the nooky pills are on the low end. Taking with coffee or tea would increase the dose, however, they may make you spend a penny pretty quick.

11:35 Clive, I've done some tests and my meter (old type with a spinning disk) does indeed measure imaginary power as well as real power.. (Turned off everything in house and made sure disk was still, then put 4 very large capacitors across L and N, disk was spinning faster than just the real part would cause)
I should do a test on my digital meter. Turn the DB off except for one circuit with caps connected.

BTW you (Clive, anyone, random geeks) might want to look up "alkaloid". Meaning an alkali-like chemical, but not necessarily a true alkali. In the sense that it will react with an acid to form salt + water is one sense, another sense being oh, heck, I've forgot. But a LOT of psychoactive drugs are alkaloids, though by no means all. And another alkaline-y property is being horribly bitter. Eurgh! Bitter is to alkali as sour is to acid. Something to do with the 2 halves of the water ion, the loose H+ and the -OH.

Many moons ago my younger brother was placed on quinine tablets to treat his leg cramps. When a bad one struck, I told him that he could get fast relief by chewing one of his sweet (sugar coated) tablets.
Clive does a back-of-the-envelope reactance calculation AND explains common-mode noise rejection. And still, nothing... Those boner pills obviously useless. Normally even just the clicking of the knob on the multimeter should be enough to draw a reaction 'neath the big lad's kilt.
