School took away my love of reading. I saw it as painful work. As a child I was an avid reader but this disappeared as I was forced to read the most boring books on the planet. However, in my last year of my bachelor's, I decided to stop reading the textbooks and start reading what I wanted to read. I graduated with a 4.0 even though I didn't read the textbooks. Now I audiobook as well as read avidly again. I'm a 3rd Grade teacher now and I am careful not to present reading as a painful chore to my students. :)
I want to say to young readers . I am addicted to reading because l was not forced to read books by my teachers. I am from am age before any screens existed. So get through your classes. Do not give up on reading. To some reading Jane Eyre is like being asked to eat a large bowl of Brussels sprouts when one abhors them. If l was a teacher would desire students explore the joy of reading.
I totally agree since i my self started reading this book at 17 but I only went through some chapters than gave up on it and left it in my desk . Now I'm 19 and I'm passionately reading it while listening to this wonderful delightful audio book ( it helps me to get through the book faster and better since English is not my native language) So don't give up on it just keep reading.

assuage meaning: make (an unpleasant feeling) less intense. And or satisfy (an appetite or desire).
