    We’ve still got an 8960 here in western Kentucky. I wanna say it’s a 1992 model. We’re second owners. Ours has the full power shift transmission. It was one of our primary tillage tractors for years, but we’ve lessened it’s work load back to just pulling a 17 shank DMI anhydrous applicator in the spring. We don’t have that black cover or whatever that is between the rear fenders though.

    If I ever got the chance to buy a big articulated tractor, one of these or a 8970 would be my first choice. I'd love to collect a few tractors but I doubt I'll ever be able to get my hands on one of these. They are just too big and I think I'd have a hard time getting one to Ireland lol. I'm set on getting a 4955/60 tho. Gonna be a pair with my wee 3040

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Soundgard II 4wds are cool. My favorite is the 8770. I have always wanted to own a tractor and hoped maybe to own an Oliver 1755 or IH 706 some day. Then one day I ended up with a John Deere 8850 4wd 😁. The 4wds can be bought in many cases for much less than the FWA models. An 8960 in my home town sold for $30,000 last year. The 4955s are bringing $50-$60,000. Maybe an 8960 on single tires would work in Ireland?
      My 8850 gas row crop style dual tires. When I got I kinda thought bigger flotation duals would make it look extra tough. The first time I drive it on a two lane road the tires it had felt plenty big 😁

    • @Squify69
      @Squify69 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigtractorpower yea. Sg2 JDS are my favourite. Somthing about the 8970 really just appeals to me. I've seen on Facebook the big 4wds do seem to be alot cheeper which surprised me. A 8960 would be cool to own just in a collection but it just wouldn't be practice whatsoever for me in actual use. Don't have a single job on our farms that would use over 150 horsepower. A 8960 would be super overkill and it probably wouldn't fit on our roads. Plus if I was to buy one they would be hard to find. But they are cool. But 4960s are my favourite tractor. I've seen some selling pretty cheep and I'd love to restore one. Plus 220 horsepower is pretty reasonable. In Ireland most tractors are around 150-200 horse. I've seen a few 300s tho. A 4960 would actually be pretty reasonable. Plus I just love how they look. It would be awesome to have one and my 3040. I think it would be a cool pair of big and little

    I have been thinking of buying a 8960 or 8970. Our biggest tillage tractor is an 8650 and it would be nice to have some more ponies. We pull a 5 shank 512 ripper and a 40 foot dmi field cultivator and our clay hills in south central minnesota can really put the 8650 to work. We also run a 7520 on a 230 jd disk and 11 knife anhydrous bar.

    The farm I work for has a 8570 with a degalman blade stuck on the front. We use it for our corn pile, disking, and to pull a rock boat. We call it the dinosaur because its the oldest tractor on the farm and still runs excellent. I drove it all summer and its easily my favorite tractor.

    • @1DirtyMutt
      @1DirtyMutt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, each piece of equipment has a HP/Foot rating. You need to consider multiple variables:field conditions vary from year to year, depth you’re tilling, type of tillage etc...you may be able to pull a larger piece of equipment one year, then the next year the conditions are poor and you struggle to get tillage done.
