I love that you start using a dirt cheap harley benton passive bass being played fingerstyle. Whenever I see someone playing darkglass, they always use a pick for the attack in the sound. It's great to see you can still get a great sound out of these with cheap (but good) gear.
I just bought the Alpha Omega 500 I’m a guitar player and I just bought 2 P bass’s this amp is absolutely incredible. You can get amazingly clean vintage super quiet tones or you can go to all our doom distortion there are so many settings and with the graphic EQ it’s amazing some of the best settings are blend the clean sound with a little bit of distortion and it sounds so good that way just the right amount of spank most of the tones you hear in this video or full out distorted but it goes the other way to and the size of this amp it is a game changer and it’s also built like a tank solid diecast aluminum heavy duty cooling fan very impressed plus the software that you can put on a Mac or PC to change the cabinet emulation incredible I highly recommend this amp
It’s been 6 months since you posted this review. How do you feel about your Darkglass AO 500 today? I’m asking because I just recently switched over to bass, and found Darkglass by accident. I’m about to pull the trigger on the AO 500, and would like actual users opinions before hand. Thanks!
@@gregoryhupchick5942 Did you get the AO 500 bro? Im close to pulling the trigger on one of these. From the sound of it this would eliminate me having to use all these ridiculous fuzz pedals. But, I am also wondering how it takes pedals. 🤔
I don't have either of these amps to test but a workaround to get the distortion without cab simulation is to load a neutral impulse response i.e. a cab sim IR that is flat. I can post a link to a page or just search "neutral cabinet IR pack". Then load a 0dB IR into one of the cab slots on the amp and you should get just the distortion clean.
I happened to own both the A/0 500 and 900 for a while. I definitely was left with the opinion that there is no volume difference at all between the 500 and 900 and the tone is identical. The main difference I found is that the 500 was quieter, so that's the one I kept :-)
@@danevechart6318 Yes, exactly that. I found the 900 had a more noticeable hiss, especially at higher gain/drive settings. The power unit in the 500 is well designed and efficient, the result is very quiet. Both are great but considering the 500 is cheaper, smaller and quieter I would say it's a better choice unless you intend to drive 2 demanding cabs.
I’ve had this amp since it came out it’s a huge game Changer I was scared to buy this with no reviews but I’m glad I did it literally does every I need minus a tuner who knows what a update on the amp will bring. The only bummer on the whole thing is no foot switch was included at least that’s an okay price but still it should be included.
great review that addressed the beef I had with the v1 - they sounded really "sterile," both clean and distorted, as compared to using one of the Darkglass preamps in front of an amp. Sounds like the new power amps make a big difference on that front!

I bought this head and I can confirm. I find this to be such an odd and unexpected limitation. Even the headphone out - distortion disabled if the cab sim is off. Great video/s, you have a new sub! Really a difficult decision as dual DI’s is really handy. The Alpha Omega 900 V2 is still king in my opinion though the MT 500 is very tempting.
The min speaker load is 2ohm on the device(in the video) but on DG wegpage it says 3ohm. Important detail where there should not be any doubt. Which one is correct? Or did DG change it later to 3ohm ?
Hi! I want to buy this amp. I just played an Ampeg Portaflex 500 and it had a blend pedal for the FX loop, does this amp have something like that? Or how can you control the FX loop volume? Thanks!
So how do you get the full use of the 500 watts. I see their speakers are 8ohms 500 watts so running through this heard your getting 250watts at 8ohms I dont see a 4ohm 500 watt cab am i missing something here? do the cabs chain together?
Hi. I wonder if this function in the MIcrotubes *B3K/VMT (This push-button switch selects between two overdrive voicings: B3K® mode will deliver an aggressive, percussive sound while the VMT will bring up the mids for a warmer, more neutral character) is similar to this function in the Alpha Omega *Mod (Selects or mixes between the two distinct distortion circuits: Alpha is punchy, tight with a lot of definition, whereas Omega is simply brutal and raw.) Would you mind doing this comparison on these two functions and their differences, please? From what I could read they might do the same but in a slightly different way. If you do not mind helping me here. I would really appreciate it. Best wishes.
Hey Gregor! I recently picked up the Alpha Omega 500 for my birthday, and I had a question about the Darkglass Suite. For my convenience, I want to change the amp so that the graphic eq lights turn blue when I turn on the distortion. Is there a way I can do that in the Darkglass Suite?
@@robjobse8860 Unfortunately not, on the Microtubes 500v2, the leds switch when you change from B3K to VMT, but there is only one distortion channel on the AO amp, and you use a knob to go from Alpha to Omega, so the leds can’t change by default. I’ll check to see if I can change that on Darkglass Suite.
I heard that 900W is better than 500W because at same volume 900w tend to be deeper and have more punch. But between these 2 the 500W isn't clearly enough ?
