It kinda makes sense for him actually. In his lore, before he was emperor his family hated him (at least his father)
And when he was made Emperor it stated he loved all of his family. Since his family is all gone now it makes sense why he’d try to get along with some of the younger champs

Vi, Ekko, Jinx and a bunch of other Zaun kids knew each other before the events of Arcane which made Jinx crazy and made Vi lose her memory/become a Warden in Piltover
Ekko would've been like 5 or 6 years old so he probably won't play a massive role, but these older kids were his heroes growing up and he looked up to them
