For information: The Huka Falls are on the Waikato River, a few kms from Taupo. Mercury Energy control the flow for generation purposes. I was there at Christmas 2019 and disappointed to find a flow of a mere 50 cumecs, due to power station maintenance. (I had paddled up from below) Looks like the average flow is around 200 cumecs and it can exceed 300. So that is a huge variation. Historical flow history charts can be viewed on the Mercury website www.mercury.co.nz/lakelevels. Mercury advise that flow for each day can be checked on 0800 820 082, update 7.30am

There were also numerous other drone pilots operating there that day. Nevertheless, I could imagine that they’ve tightened up the zones since then. Thanks for the input.

There are signs up now that say no to drones.
