Watching this helps combat all the crud that is supposedly "entertainment" in our modern time. It's called "Raw Talent" and it's in short supply on tv. Keep Swinging Nick!
The world is far lesser not having the optimism that this man (and his crew) brought to the table. I cannot imagine him without a smile and something nice to say, based on all his songs, even the sad ones.
Nick's audio, film and video recordings make quite a media history! Great to see his guitar technique, an inspiration to a generation of jazz and country players... and to the Gibson company with its small-but-deep "Nick Lucas Model" acoustic guitars (25 years before that other Gibson star, Les Paul)
Nick moves his picking hand right down to the bridge for the solo while when he's playing rhythm he moves up to the "sweet spot". Great guitar -I assume it's his original 1925 special that Gibson made for him.
This was recorded in 1951. But Mr. Lucas' singing style seems older, like he had been singing since the prohibition era. Still nice voice and nice song, though.
Love it. NL is a recent discovery for me via Tiny Tim. Anybody know what kind of guitar this is? It's almost "parlour" size (oo). Lead, bass and rhythm all at once! Similar to Piedmont style in that respect.
In case you didn't find the answer in the past 12 years.. Nick Lucas had his own signature guitar by Gibson "Nick Lucas". It is a small parlor guitar similar to the L-1, L-2 by Gibson but has a deeper body similar to a dreadnought. Cheers friend.
Yes, and all done with rehearsed volumes, and very basic micing and mic techniques - and no-one twiddling knobs in a studio, altering the levels and making people sound as though they play and sing in tune - just sheer professionalism and wonderful musicianship.

Great song. I am so tired of negativity.
Was down, now I'm up after hearing this .

Absolutely, Positively , wonderful. They do not write songs or perform music like this anymore, thanks for posting.
Great musician , singer and jazz guitar player .
I wish I had a guitar that sounded that good, and that I could play it that well. This is beautiful.

Back when music was beautiful

Lucas also sang this on the Tonight Show in December 1969.

Awesome!!!
So good.
'26, '51, '69... he looks the same in every video. What a cutie.
And playing the same guitar along decades!
Lovely.
Simply delightful. Nick Lucas reminds a little of Ozzie Nelson.
I may be 10, but I love this

Holy wow! A Google search revealed that Dylan play a "Nick Lucas Gibson".
I've got the 1926 record of this on Brunswick. It's still playable, any offer?

Probably because he originally recorded this song in the mid-1920s.
Faltó el solo de piano señor Nick, pala próxima

He's been singing since the 1910s
This version is one of the better ones. I feel like it has a bit more 50s style to it

@richmeister1 I agree. This stuff just slays mediocrity.
