LRZ is an absolute flyer. He had only been training for the 40 for 10 weeks and 4.43 isn't a true reflection of how quick he really is. He has done 4.2's in training apparently.
Trust me when I say he will have been tackled more playing rugby than in the NFL. These are highlights where naturally him bring tackled isn’t going to be on the agenda

Lets be honest he's good looking and a massive marketing opportunity for many teams. He absolutely rapid. One of the fastest rugby players in the world and also has amazing hands.
great vid, im welsh.. rugby is so dang hard, you see him score those tries... those are moments in an 80 min marathon, minimal breaks in play, being tackled HARD many times during a game with no pads.. physically - rugby is immensely more of a challenge. tactically - the thought process behind developing good plays is not that different in rugby. I believe he will have a huge amount to offer chiefs in that area. It will be cool for you guys in the US to see a pure "back" play in the nfl. I believe you guys have only seen "forwards" up until now. (backs being the creative runners in rugby and forwards being the scrum meatheads) look up the welsh team from the 70s. love
For some of you that are watching with the stadium is empty was because of COVID-19. This guy was a Star player for the Welsh team an he was really good would say a top 10 winger.
Louis is a gateway, for talented international players to come into the nfl. I think he will not only make the team, but perform at a high level.

He looks like a special teams pro bowler if his skills can translate. At the very least he should be a great return man and gunner. Maybe he'll learn to play reciever and get some screens and drag routes. The raw physical talent is 100% there hope he translates.
Rugby fan here from the other side of the world from LRZ. He's got the big game mentality. It's been proven in international footy. He also grew up watching football with his dad, who used to play. So he knows the game at least at a "family passion" level.
He's a massive talent, and he hasn't hit his prime yet. He's gonna be good.

Ummm no considering if he plays a skill position then there are less players to tackle so hes more likely to be more tackle compared to being 1 of 15 players being tackled. Ive played both sports and can say that a running back faces more tackling than a winger would in each game...

Tbf he will be tackled more in the NFL. No offloading, he will receive the ball and be tackled 100% of the time unless it's a try.
It's a totally different tackle as well.

What's really interesting is LRZ is the first proven elite level senior international rugby player to make the switch. Doesn't mean he'll make it, simply that his rugby level is way above other previous players to try and it'll be interesting to see if that ability makes a major difference
Personally see him being an absolutely elite special teamer like Tasker or Armstead. It depends on the coaches to see if they can develop him for the offense as well.

Hes is now the fastest nfl player ok his show day he ran 4.43 but he jas been running low 4.3s high 4.2s. Hes also conditioned to run 80 minutes with not as many syips as the nfl has so his fitness and indurance will see him in good stead

It will be a big ask for him, interesting to see if he goes to be a running back or a receiver. The biggest issue he'll face is that routes and plays are extremely regimented. Rugby is played will a lot more freedom and "off the cuff". Its almost like forcing a surrealist artist to paint still life.
Well if you've been paying attention the last few years the Chiefs probably are the team with the most freeform playing possibilities. Guys change routes guys run straight Kelsey hardly ever runs his assigned route.
If he's open Mahomes will find him. But I'm guessing he's going to be running the ball from the backfield

The opposition aren't slow, he really is that fast. There's a reason they call him "Rees Lightning".
More than that, it's his game intelligence and anticipation that marks him out in rugby. Also, unlike other rugby players that have made the switch to NFL, Rees-Zammit has been obsessed with NFL since early childhood and has a huge knowledge and understanding of the game.
It might take him a year to get used to memorising so may plays and understand the game even better, but you're right to highlight his potential. People on your side of the pond should underestimate this kid at their peril. He could turn out to be a superstar...
I think football at nfl level is so technical it will be down to how his coaches assess his ability based on his stats which seems to be a really important thing in the nfl. But as a welsh man that has watched this kid progress over the last 3 years trust me, you are getting an absolute elite level finisher. That 40 dash time you all obsess over does not tell the true picture of how fast this kid is. If you timed him from 20-60 that is where he is a monster. As long as he can navigate the nfl stats obsession he'll i predict he will shock the nfl.
The clip you showed at 5.45 where he didnt move away from defenders was because his boot got split in the initial tap tackle
Interesting thought of an rugby player transitioning to football. He definitely has a disadvantage of never playing a competitive game of football. Rugby field is bigger and wider than a football field but more players than football, 15 vs 11. I think it would be harder for football players to transition to top tier rugby, international rugby. As football players don't know how to lateral correctly, that's why it is an inefficient play in the NFL, imagine nfl players learn how to lateral like rugby players, more players would know how to pass and catch. Also rugby is non stop like soccer, so football players will have to lose weight and work on their cardio more

I mean, we have some of the best coaches in teh NFL, so I think they've done their homework. If any system will make this guy work, the Chiefs and Andy Reed will.

@@brek5 oh 100% to play rugby at the top level, you need to be a very disciplined player and have a good work ethic, otherwise you are getting ousted by your whole country. LRZ is the 1st rugby player that played for a national team in a world cup that transitioned to nfl, the other previous rugby players weren't representing their national team, also rugby is regarded as probably one of the most team sentric sport, no space for egos
You say hes not used to being tackled, yet hes an incredible player and would have dominated welsh rugby for years to come...they won't catch him.
Only thing id be more worried about for him is the rules of nfl and being slowed down buy all the gear.
I'm a Welsh man,and I'm a rugby fan first,Rees zammit is on top of his game in rugby terms,.has an athlete he has most things that he can transfer over to the football 🏈 game,his biggest asset is his speed, but also he can catch a rugby ball at speed he has quick turn of pace good balance and a great engine.his inexperience is the only little thing that could inpead him,not sure it will ,we can only wish this brave kid all the luck.he has been playing professional rugby since age of 18, he has played for his country Wales🏴👏👏 the British lions👏👏 all by the time he turned 23,now that's a massive achievement by any body's standards. Now a new dream is about to be realised,he has the guts the courage and dedication to achieve his next big dream.and that dream is to for full his dream and his dad's dream of making it to the top in the NFL,.his dad played the American football ball here in Wales he played at good standard.so Rees zammit knows quite a lot about the game all he has to do now is go get a place in that rostra and keep it make it his own .we trust he can do this we no he can do this and most important of all he knows he can make it .good luck to Rees lighting, the chiefs are in for a great journey with this talented kid.🏴👏👏👏

LRZ is an absolutely amazing Rugby player I really hope Big Andy Reid can work his magic with him and can successfully transition over to the NFL, I'm English And had the joy of watching him play for the British Lions but would be gutted if he played for our national team and left. I bet our fellow Welsh people are gutted about him going. But I wish him all the success in the world. I've only been watching American football for the past 5-6 years and find the sport amazing, wish I would have gotten into it at a younger age, I've always been a Rugby fan though.
If his skills to crossover successfully you guys are going to be in for a treat. Let's hope he can do it.

Tyreek Hill's 10.19 was at an official athletics meet using FAT - the time is the time.
Rees-Zammit has NEVER competed in athletics. His so-called 10.4 was his mate holding a stopwatch while he was filming a commercial. It was about as close to an official time as your school sports day PB.
But that was the whole point of doing it. Get gullible people talking about it. If he wanted an official time, he'd just enter an athletics meet as an unattached athlete, but then we'd get the truth, which he doesn't want.
And in any case - you said he was faster. Even if he could run a 10.4 (which he can't), and Hill runs 10.19 (which he definitely can), how do you come to that conclusion?
Hill ran 4.29 at the actual Combine, Rees-Zammit was 0.15 seconds slower than that - so over 1.5 metres back over 36.6 metres - which is a big margin, and that's without considering the well-known fact that Pro-Day timing is very generous compared to the Combine.

What people mean by more tackles generally the skill positions in NFL take the majority of the hits. And those hits tend to be fairly severe thus the pads. Both sports are brutal let's not get into that stupid argument
I love how everyone is acting like signing this guy is like the next Randy Moss or something. Let’s be honest, there aren’t a lot of athletes who cross into another sport this late into life and have great success. Not saying it can’t happen, but he’s probably a return specialist at best at this point
