Critical Blow is one of my favorite Fighting Games on PS1! I main Marry 😁 I have some BnB clips on my channel for some characters from its prequel (Shadow Struggle) and Critical Blow itself. Give some love to this series!
Critical Blow is a sequel to Shadow Struggle also on PS1 Also the story is in story mode (lol) so you'll get more cutscenes and endings in that mode not in arcade mode. This game was made by Racydym. I recommend Yuusha: Heaven's Gate by Atlus and Fighter's Impact by Taito.
Awesome to see Critical Blow pop up in the Jankyard! I imported this awhile ago - I think I first heard about it from Jeff Gerstmann (I think it was the first episode of Giant Bomb's Ranking of Fighters iirc) and it sounded cool by his impression. But you are totally right! Man oh man, I was thrown *for a loop* when I first started playing and it only used 2 buttons! There's stuff going on to be learned for sure (there's a whole card system at work with the trading mode, and you can equip skills to character on the Circle button), but still - two buttons! I've nabbed a lot of PSX fighters in the past few years and this one is still one of the most baffling to me whenever I pick it up. Slap Happy Rhythm Busters? Tobal 2? Lighting Legend? I can wrap my brain around all of them. Critical Blow? I feel like I gotta look up moves lists/FAQs or Google Translate Cam the instruction manual _every damn time._ Like, what is going on with the spinning gems on the bottom corners? I never remember! But according to the manual though it's your Special Gauge. Your moves/techniques changes depending on how "charged" it is, through levels 1, 2, 3, AS and ∞. So some techniques like Assault Blows and Berserk States can be only used at a certain level. Weird. I guess maybe Banpresto may have been going for a streamlined fighter thing a la Evil Zone? It is a cool game though, the combo system is interesting and there's *crazy* anime in this for the story mode. There's a bunch of cutscenes, and tons of stills, and they're dope af - it just looks good. The story of Rickey and.... robot girl (no spoilers) is pretty solid '90s anime goodness. But yeah, great to see you stick with it and find some cool combos and whatnot! It is *not* the easiest one to just pick up and play blind. It's 2022; fan translators _really_ need to get on these menus, lol.
@@zengram okay but does that mean the game isn't underrated? First of all try to consider that not everyone plays this seriously. Not everyone is looking to game the system and find every infinite combo and every bit of cheese that can be found through exploiting the game mechanics. Some people just play the game and for those people this game is fantastic and definitely underrated! At bare minimum this game deserves a sequel that could fix any balance issues or even re-release the old game with balance patches...

If I had a penny for every time Justin says OD without explaining what it means to the casual audience, I’d have enough money to buy DNF at full price. They refuse to do a sale for a game that needs it haha.
I hope you eventually put more jank fighting games like Dino Rex (which you REALLY struggled to beat) for the sake of how fighting games got from time between good, very bad and the unknown ones that can be either good or jank.
There’s another janky fighting game for the PS1 called Fighter Maker. You should check it out. It’s a lot of fun playing with friends. PS, you might also like the Battle Arena Toshinden games, also on the PS1 console.
I recently played a lot of games from Banpresto, this company had some pretty cool games, There's also a decent beat 'em up game for the Snes and Gunnm: Martian Memory for the ps1.
Hey I need help with the name of a fighting game from PS1 if anyone knows it. All I can tell you is it had 3D graphics like this, I don't even know if it was a 3D fighter, and 1 character that I think was a boss character fights without using his hands. What game is this?
Justin there’s a game on n64 called fighters destiny it’s kinda like vf it’s a fun game I know it sounds crazy n64 fighting game fun try it out think you will like it
The big game I always think of when I think "relatively unknown, and somehow both super janky and surprisingly underrated in mechanics" is X-Men Next Dimension.
The best episode was when JW said he wish he understood what they were saying because the words was written in CHINESE and am like WHHHAAAAAT JW doesn't know Chinese lol lol.
Lmao, Told Him to Play Critical Blow multiple time on stream Glad he finally tried it. Me and my cousins played it a lot i used to work at an import game store. Hopefully he plays Evil Zone next another request i gave him.
I remember this game. My friend lend it to me for Saturday evening game. I played it, I beat it. It was super janky and I don't like it. I immediately returned it in 3 hours later 😂 I don't know if I miss remember it or my memory mixed with other game, but I'm sure there mechanic where you can hit certain part of the enemies body when it glow and beat it immediately, that's why it's called Critical Blow.
Still waiting for justin to check out the Zatch bell fighting games
Underrated fucking show and I wish I can find it
Underrated show please play the fighting game justin
Yooooooo that game was fucking lit, would play for hours, im surprise someone knows about it
@@monarch2500 very obscure but definitely one of the best fighting games on the GCN/PS2 era

I'm a little disappointed that I didn't knew this game as a kid. Looks like just the kind of stuff I'd spend an unhealthy amount of time on

"Kensei: Sacred Fist" for the PlayStation One. Developer and publisher is Konami.

Genei Tougi: Shadow Struggle is the first one in the series and I also recommend it as well!
Not to mention it has two cheap bosses
If we're going with jank ps1 fighting games, I recommend checking out Evil Zone. So far, Max dood was the only one who really featured it so far.

Good stuff! Always like seeing fighting games I've never heard of
That boss grab reminds me of doing your laundry by hand and then dumping it on the bin or basin real hard.🤣
You gotta love that Thrasher magazine font, especially when you get a KO!!

"bootleg Spencer" made me cackle laugh.
The anime intro is O.D. Keep the jankyard stuff coming! 💜

Blew the animation budget on the intro because they knew the game was too jank for anyone to finish it 🤣
You sahnahmahbit. You did it again. Ready yourselves for the remake, for if Justin plays it, it will come.

Honestly I like the look of this game. It’s like a faster version of an older Tekken.
Don’t ya just love retro graphics
You unlock the true ending if you don't throw the last boss.
