- I wanted to find a way, how to color pampas grass without expensive machines or a big mess and I think this could be a perfect solution! :)

Where can I buy food coloring? Or are they just the normal food coloring.. hellppp
you can use any food coloring! the one thats already liquid is best, so you don‘t clog the spray bottle, but you can make any food coloring work :)

Hi 😊 sure! I used liquid food coloring (and water) like these: amzn.eu/d/3XjBJa0
They are used for baking usually, so very safe and work perfectly with coloring pampas grass :) You can use any brand of food coloring! Just experiment with the amount of color you put into the water, its a lot of fun! 😊

Hi @pandarush. ! that is actually a really good question. I have not tried it yet but I‘m in my little plant studio on the weekend and I can try it out and tell you how it went 😁
Because it could be that a little bit of the food coloring comes out but if so there are also other colors that you could use instead :)
@the.sarahworld You are very kind to find out for me. THANK YOU so much! If the colors do run, what do you suggest? I've watched people that boil water, put the water in a large bin, dissolve Rit dye, and soak the pampas. Then let the whole thing dry for days.

sorry the holidays were crazy 😅 I took some colored pampasgrass with me and I will try it out!
If it looses color you could also use textile colors or acrylics instead of food coloring, they should stay on the grass but they are a bit more difficult to apply. If they aren‘t totally dissolved in water you can‘t use them with a spray bottle, you would have to use a bucket to dip them 🤔

So I tried it out with the food-coloring Pampasgrass and unfortunately it dyed my sink in all the colors immediately. So definitely not made for rainy weather 🥲 Maybe I can find some of my textile and acrylic colored pampasgrass in the next days and try them too. because acrylics should definitely keep their color but textile colors are easier to use
How is the bleaching done?
hi ottomans87! unfortunately I don‘t know how they bleach them (the pampasgras is naturally very bright but the bunny tails get bleached) but that‘s something I also want to find out :) An alternative is to put the plants out in the sun for as long as possible and they will also get brighter!
What if I just use spray paint?
hi Yesetly Manriquez ☺spray paint and pampas grass is a weird combination unfortunately :( it sticks only to the outside of the grass and makes it look like sticky cotton candy (in a bad way) but spray paint does work great with not-fluffy plants! :)
but I only tried it with two different brands of spray paint, maybe I'll experiment a bit more :)

I learned from you about the spray bottle with the ultra fine mist. I'm going to buy one asap, instead of using a regular spray bottle. I saw big differences on your video when you compared the sprayers. Thank you!!!!

No I actually don‘t 😅 but a lot of people here have pampas grass in their gardens and I can get a lot when they decide to cut it. But I think they aren‘t really difficult to grow, our weather is crazy and the plants don‘t mind 🤷♀️
