  • Most people in the dead mall scene have their favourite dead malls. Forest Fair Village/Cincinnati Mall. Century III. Rolling Acres. One of mine is Blue Ridge Mall in Hendersonville, North Carolina. A modest 350,000 sq. foot mall in a town of 15,000 people.

Join me for a dead mall tour of this place, which is somewhere I stumbled into to walk off a big lunch I’d had after pulling off the highway on a road trip. With tinny music playing, empty units, and label scars, this was the first dead mall I ever encountered in the wild.
On my last visit, I thought I was about to have a run-in with security. As things developed, it turned out to be something quite different...Hope you all enjoy the video!

i love seeing the old Bath and Body Works. It really provides a sense of nostalgia.

JC Penney is becoming a Ross/Homegoods. Also rumors are going around that a Five Below is opening there.

Loved this vid, there is something cute about small town malls, especially growing up with them, everyone from school shopping at the same stores, going to the one cinema in town on a date, there’s something relaxing and innocent about being cut off like that from the overwhelming choice we have these days, everywhere becomes a bit homely

You always do great videos Mr. Dead! Side note…The people that trash Hull property group don’t take an extra moment to realize there are very few companies that want these small malls in areas where population is not extremely concentrated. While carpet tiles and large photos of local history might not be everyone’s flavor, if it wasn’t for Hull, most likely these malls would have been long gone.
I have a good feeling most of the folks making negative comments about Hull have not owned a portfolio of properties (possibly not even one property) with limited funds to make their assets clean, safe and acceptable for the public. It’s called a budget!
I have two Hull malls near Charleston in Sumter and Orangeburg. These are communities with lots of income and crime issues. If it wasn’t for Hull, the malls would be long gone.
A community mall owned by Hull is better than no mall.

Thank you, much appreciated! And good to get contrasting takes in these comments, and yours are very thought provoking. I’ll dive back into these issues when I cover Charleston Town Center, which might be next on my list to work on.
One thing’s for certain - like you say, I’d rather have any mall than no mall. I think we can all agree on that 👍🏻

@@DeadMallWalkingthanks and keep up the great work! I was also a Pittsburgh resident for a decade at the end of Century 3 and also the lovely Pittsburgh Mills. 😂
Some of the TH-camrs (one in particular) love slinging comments without thinking about what it takes to manage, maintain and update these malls. It’s not a game of Fortnite, but that’s unfortunately how our society is today. When a company only has x dollars to make everything happen, the funds are allocated in the most efficient method possible based on the community needs… or it’s certain bankruptcy. Do we all want beautiful neon and trees and fountains in the malls, yes… but that’s just not in the budget.
Stay safe out there Mr Dead😂😂😂

This is a really good video. I want to make my own here at some point soon. I really detest hull because these smaller malls originally featured the old school brick and planter architecture. Like Jasper in Alabama which you mentioned. But as Charlestonpinball arcade said in the comments, these malls likely wouldnt be here at all if it werent for Hull. I just yearn for the old school architecture.

Slumlord Hull owns this mall? It will probably be dead soon.

Oof! This one has been kicking around for quite a while, although it’s not exactly thriving in its current state…

The mall is not going anywhere. The community supports it along with most of the other communities Hull is located in. They could easily have an owner of malls like Signal Hill or Pennrose… Take an extra moment and realize Hull is a company with a budget. They refresh the malls with things you don’t like, but it’s not your mall and carpet tiles and pictures on a wall is better than a mall with rotting ceilings and black mold in the structure.
