All five are great photos. That big bull elephant flanked to his left and right by family members at varying distances is a personal favorite as is the photo of those two lovely, colorful birds. You have a real ability to compose a shot that is clear of distractions. I love the cleanliness of our compositions.
Fantastic images Steve, you have a great understanding of making the subject 'pop' yet still being able to capture it's environment, a very well earned skill on your part!
I enjoyed your photos, especially the first one - can't wait for the rest! ***A request: in one of your videos would you do a demonstration of how you take a picture using your monopod over the side of your vehicle***
I prefer "Photo Nerd". Love the Black and White of the elephants that one is spectacular. As an artist it is all subjective. I have some of my own favorites hanging in my house, they wouldn't be others favorites but they all have a story.
Great photos, particularly the three groups of elephants. Appreciate your comments on the elephant bull. Too often I find myself trying to please someone else when a photo is a personal favorite. As “artists” we should be proud of our work whether the critics agree or not. Looking forward to the rest.
Thanks Steve for walking us through simplicity; three elements that you loved everything about; the soft light kiss ; the uncovered secret spot, and topped it off with a real beast- all visual delights !
Great part 1! Excited to see the rest. What I like is explaining why you like the images & what they mean to you. I think it's important for all us photo geeks to take a step back and review a year or time period to see how we've grown and to remember what we captured. Sometimes we spend so much time going out non-stop looking for that next great photographic moment that it's good to pump the brakes and look back.
So very cool Steve...I really enjoy your style of photography. Looking forward to your next video. It's great that you give us the settings on each of the photo and the reason why!!!!
From 1 photo geek to another all I can say is WOW Steve. They are all amazing but that first black and white elephant shot is a 10 out of 10 on the wow scale. I can not wait to see the other 20! Stunning work as usual from you. :))
Wonderful video Steve thanks! Is it just me or did anyone else find the camera perched on the edge of the table a distraction. I guess excessive worry over the wellbeing of another's camera puts me in the "photo geek" category 🙂
Great stuff Steve. I really enjoy the minimalism your putting out these days. Nice to hear you still have your Sony setup. Might be a fun review to hear when and where you are using each and why you are keeping both.. cheers-Greg
That first Elephant image is just stunning! What I like the most about it is that symmetry of those 3 elements!
The crowned ibis - stunning
I’m more a nature geek! I love to paint wildlife!!! Love watching your videos, very nourishing to my soul! Especially in current times!!!😊😘
Wow, absolutely love the 3 groups of elephants and the magnificent bull dusting himself! I think that’s a portfolio shot😁
Thank you very much🙏
That first elephant shot is incredible!
Thanks!
Photo geeks, a perfect description!

Love the big bull low shot! You do the best with what your given
I try...
Love the leopard shot! There is a touch of HR Geiger about that one - to me at least.....
I enjoyed your photos, especially the first one - can't wait for the rest!

Love the elephant photo and I enjoy the black and white as well, but that would be one I would love to see in color as well! Great images!
Thanks!

Truth
Great images Steve. #2 is my favorite, the black and white of the elephants.
Thanks Jorn🙏
Love it. Can’t wait to see more. We have to catch up after the brief chat in Masai Mara.
Yes we do!
The first one (three trees in Yellowstone) is stunning, mate.
Thanks!
All were amazing photos. I really enjoyed the description along with each one. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
WOW! That says it all!
Thanks Steve, as always great images and love your commentary of the experience!
Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks, me too!
Love these, looking forward to the next photos.
Thanks!
I love the commentary, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing shot Steve. I Love the story about too. And February 3rd is my birthday 😊 Waiting for the next round of favorites🥂
great shots!
Great images Steve. I couldn't see the baby leopard, my eyes were a bit strained going from your red watchband to your blue beverage
Fair enough, the leopard has better camouflage than I do apparently.

Excellent images!
Glad you like them!
I’m without a doubt a photo geek😂 Great photos as usual Steve. Thanks for sharing.
You and me both!
Great photos as usual Steve. Looking forward to the rest.

I totally agree

More to come!
As always one of my favorite videos you post Steve. Really looking forward to this series.
Glad to hear it!
Definitely looking forward to the next one. All about seeing your images and learning the stories behind them.
Awesome, thank you!
Beautiful shots. Love the cranes
Thanks a lot!
Great images wish I was there.
Actually it is the photo of the big tusker Craig that does it for me. He is so dominant in the image that the vegetation behind does not really matter
Thanks for sharing! You really inspire me with my photography, great work Steve! 🙏
I appreciate that!
Some well made images! I am glad you have continued this series back. Thank you for sharing.
More to come!
amazing photos 👍
Many thanks

Hahaha, it was safe, don’t worry 👍

I actually sold all my Sony gear once I received the Nikon 400 2.8 with the built in TC. So I have been only Nikon for the last year or so.
@@SteveMattheis Yeah.. that built in TC...dang smart.
Really good work Steve. i can't wait to see the next batch.
Great shots as expected. Is that a Mamiya lens hood on your 100-400 or did someone else release some thing like it as well?
Yes it is Mamiya
@@SteveMattheis Those things are worth their weight in gold now because they stopped making them. I’m glad I bought mine when I did.
Nice harvest - the elephant bull in the group of 3, looks like it had some selective 'colouring', contrast... applied
Yes I burned him down, maybe a bit too much?
Curious why you took both the Nikon and Sony 400mm to Africa. I thought you got the new Nikon with built in 1.4x.
The 2022 Africa trip was done over a year ago before the Nikon was available. I have since sold all the Sony gear...
Never apologise. Remain defiant.
Never? I make too many mistakes to never apologize…
👍
I'm uncomfortable seeing that Z9 sitting that close to the table's edge
Haha, you weren’t the only one apparently 😂
@@SteveMattheis Nice trick to get people to engage in comments ;)
I wish I was that clever…
@@SteveMattheis Better accidentally clever than not at all ;)
