I love how varied your tastes are. Books still seem to inspire childlike wonder in you, and I'm glad to say it's contagious. While I agree with many of your opinions, I sadly didn't enjoy The Poet very much. I'm going to give the sequel a shot, though. Maybe I was just in a bad mood when I read it.
Love the passion amd love for books in this video. Also great to see love for Tom Clancy and Michael Connelly. Two of my favorites. People miss out by only reading one genre.
Titel: TOP TEN AUTHORS OF ALL TIME Brian: there are so many good ones so it'll be a top 15 Doesn't change the title because top ten just sounds better 😂😂👌
Someone who knows and loves Tad Williams too!!! It's so rare to hear his books mentioned! Memory, sorrow and thorn was my favourite fantasy series after LotR. I must re-read it now that there's a sequel. And I must read Otherland. I read the first volume some years ago but didn't manage getting to the rest.
Brilliant. I'm in the middle of Swan song by Robert McCammon for the second time. Brilliant. Love the loist as I have half of these authors. Keep it up.
The Goldfinch is in my top 10 favorite books ever, which Donna Tartt do you recommend after Goldfinch? Also, I got into Bosch on Amazon, what book do I begin with? Keep up the great content!
You're definitely the booktuber with the most similar tastes to my own. I'm going to have to get some of the few authors in your list i haven't read yet (Elizabeth George, Donna Tartt) but i agree with most of this list!
I'm so much interested in reading Tad Williams. Shadowmarch has been in my list for years. And now I feel so intrigued by Otherland and Memory, sorrow and Thorn. It is just... they are so long. and that will mean a huge committment.
@@livriomer shadowmarch and Memory are more traditional fantasy, otherland is more original i think. Personally i prefered Otherland, hope this helped. Memory is definitly a classic and inspiration for Game of Trones. And of course there is al also war of the flowers
Your list was very interesting. You gave me some authors to check out. But I have to ask about James Patterson, Thomas Harris, Michael Crichton and Caleb Carr?
Have you ever read Umberto Eco? He's an author you really have to pay attention to the story. Also, The BBC miniseries The Night Manager is really good.
Tom Clancy is amazing, but dude, Sum of All Fears or whichever book when he would go into all the nuclear science really killed me. Without Remorse is my favorite, and that makes sense when I realized Vince Flynn was my favorite thriller author lol
My Top 10: - Thomas Mann - Stephen King - William Shakespeare - Leo Tolstoy - Arthur C. Clarke - Robert Merle - Karl May - Alexandre Dumas - Johann Wolfgang Goethe - István Fekete
The Cider House Rules is probably the best novel I've ever read (and A Prayer For Owen Meany is up there, too). GG Kay's Sarantine Mosaic is the best historical fantasy I've read, and his Fionavar Tapestry the best portal fantasy. Great list!
So I'd never read Louis L'Amour... and not to brag, but one of my beta readers suggested I read him because she thought my writing style was a lot like L'Amour's. Obviously curious from that, I checked him out. I'm not into westerns at all, but he wrote a book called The Walking Drum set in 10th century Byzantine (modern day middle east). It's a little more along the lines of my reading interests. And it's really good. Great combination of historical context, fictional characters, and vibrant description. I'm sure Brian has read it. But anyone else looking for a good read, I'd recommend it.

Louis L'amour is one of my favorite authors as well. I keep returning to his books. I really like how many different styles of books you read. Have you read anything by Georgette Heyer? She writes very historically correct fiction. A few of them is based on real historical persons and their lives.
If you haven't already you should check out John Le Carre's son; Nick Harkaway. He's a great author in his own regard! I can recommend starting with The Gone-Away World or Gnomon if you're interested :))
I would have to put Joe Abercrombie and John Gwynne in there. Best in fantasy in my opinion. But no way could I pick my top 10 or 15. Maybe top in each category. But overall ? Would be hard.
I have never seen you give a mention to Moorcock directly in the videos I have watched from you. Considering the time period you were getting into fantasy novels I would have thought you would hit Moorcock before Thieves World. Also the world of Song of Ice and Fire is heavily fleshed out with Lovecraft, Moorcock, and others, with Valyria easily being a stand in for the Dreaming City Martin quickly admits these influences and his homages to them in his work. So I guess where I am going with this is I was wondering if you disliked Moorcock or I just missed videos where he comes up. He was a big influence to some of your fantasy favorites and the main force behind most new wave fiction emerging though his work on things like New Worlds magazine.
How can your number one (#1) Fantasy series author of all time not be in your top 10 (17) authors of all time? Epic fantasy is your favorite genre. J. R. R. Tolkien should, logically, be in there somewhere.
True. And I thought of that while making this video. Although Lord Of The Rings is my fav fantasy series, Tolkien isn't necessarily one of my favorite authors. He'd be in my top 30 tho
Stephen King of King's and Lord of Lord's of all genre fiction writing, head and shoulders above the rest. Plus, he's just a downright, down to earth, compassionate human being as well. The man's never not been a #1 New York Times bestseller, from Carie onwards. That's gotta be a record, man. Have you read, "Heart Shaped Box, " by his son? Dude. How'd you meet King? Did he come to Salt Lake for a signing?

They are all American
"Gene Wolfe is the Gene Wolfe of fantasy."
I literally laughed out loud when you said this. Brian, you are awesome.
I really miscalculated how I count to 10. But as long as our #1 is still the same, you get that big thumbs up from me be it top 10 top 20 or top 1000.
I was never really all that good at math
@@B.LEE.DbrianleedurfeeREVIEWS Math is overrated.

Thanks!!!
I liked George Martin's "Ferve Dream". It's a well sustained novel that combines Gothic horror with science fiction, history and social themes.
Another fantastic video!!! Thank you!!!

I just like video instantly because I know it's going to be hilarious and well done.
Awesome Top 10/12/15/17!!! Maybe you could have done with a couple of honorable mentions before number 1!
