The ha'penny bridge was originally opened as an art gallery and cost 1 half penny to view the art but the damp from the river was ruining the art so it became just a bridge.

Dublin born and bred. Sadly have moved away now as it’s just gotten extortionate to live there, and accommodation is a disgrace. Sad to see how expensive this was for you. I’ve been to many European cities for a fraction of the cost, but that option is not available in Dublin. We are a city and country that relies hugely on tourism, and all this will do is drive people away

tip if you are struggling. in the evenings aorund 7-9ish in fornt of the GPO on o connel street there is a food bank giving out food!
If you're coming to Ireland again, you should try this challenge in Galway or Cork. They're both cities, but they're a bit cheaper than Dublin. :)

@@noname1210hh there’s plenty of hostels in Galway to bunk in and hotels to book. Budget wise it might be a concern though but I know at least 5 places you can go and stay for a week at a decent price.
Not cheap by any means, but in smaller towns people are more hospitable. Dubs are renowned for being ignorant....it's a city thing, every man for himself. In smaller towns though, I'm sure the locals would be more than happy to accommodate you in exchange for a few hours of work. The challenge would be transport, because once you're in the sticks you're pretty much stuck.

It’s probably the most expensive time to visit dublin in its entire existence never seen hotels so expensive you used to be get a room for like 80€ a night fairly easily now it’s like 150-200 minimum
Why did it get so expensive?
Hotels were like 500€ for the cheapest rooms in the beginning of the summer this year 😂 it has come down a lot from that, still incredibly expensive

I laughed at your €1 challenge here - not like my previous homes in Asia.....it sounds great but Dublin is horrendously expensive. I've just spent €55 on meat, fish & basic veg....the rest of the week we'll be eating lentil curry/soup. I'm wearing a onesie, uggs & a jumper as it's too expensive to turn the heating on! BTW, we both work!!! Dublin is VERY expensive 😩
Day 1 - Rob a Bike
Day 2 - exchange bike for cash and drug dealers number or bike for drugs direct
Day 3 - buy drugs - find punters for the drugs
Day 4 - buy more drugs - original punter should've spread the word by now $$$
Day 5 - once punters ring back multiple times in one day go back to dealer and negotiate getting tic on a large supply and paying back in a couple weeks
Day 6 - find a women you can stash and sleep with in her house
Day 7 - meet new girls friends
Day 8 - have party with small supply of your stash for the friends "make sure too move drugs for party don't tell women"
Day 8-9 - when friends are running out and need more drugs they will come to you but you must stress how important it is that the stuff you have left needs cash
Day 10 - you should now have enough cash to split your bill for food and some of the drugs while being owed money I assume from a few folks that offered you there dole cards until there paid instead of cash.
These people will only keep coming back for more and spreading your number friend to friend just keep the supply in make regular dealer payments and you will be rolling in cash ☺️

I nearly choked at the price for the hostel bed, that's crazy, Dublin used to be quite reasonable up to about 10 years ago, not now though...you could get the equivalent bed in London for about £20 today

Did you know Guinness did not used to be vegan. A lot of beers use fish products in the processing of it but Guinness awhile back changed how they do things so that it would be vegan!
I live in Dublin and can attest to the expense of this city although living here is very different to visiting! Something seriously needs to be done about the accomodation prices as it is now ridiculous how expensive Dublin has become just to stay in a hostel that would have cost a fraction ten years ago! Prices aside it is a fun city to visit so Glad you managed to enjoy the city nevertheless 👍

Ah, I just got back from Dublin & I have to agree, the prices can be outrageous - you can find some hidden gems if you do a ton of research but in general, 20 euros or more for a lunch or dinner is very much expected, not sure as to why the prices are hiked to that level - could have something to do with the large influx of US based tourists that they receive

Ireland the life of Ireland is bad Dublin is the heart of any social life ! The last train for most people is 9pm with no other way home for a lot one night stay in a hotel is over 200 and that's with a gold membership on booking to stay a week In Las Vegas in a 5 star casino resort would be cheaper and I checked !!!! So to sum it up there is a lot of depression in Ireland cause people just can't live oh did o mention it was the most expensive country in Europe to live in ! Not sure of its still number one though. Brexit really put the prices of everything up. Thank you British government

Homeless people and families are often shoved into hotels and hostels which means theyre less available, particularly when concerts and other things are going on. That is not even a high price for a hostel room, just yesterday I was looking for a hostel for a friend and there was a bed in a 10 beds dorm for 235 euros for 1 night....... WTF is happening in Dublin ?????

No, Heuston is in the other direction hahaha. (reply to your Houston we have a problem message). Tickets to the Guinness Store House are about 26 quid if I remember right, quite a chunk of your slim budget. Another option would be checking out the museums, most of those are for free like the National Gallery, Museum or Natural Science, Archaeology and History. Or hop on the Dart to Howth and do the cliffwalk. Bit of real Irish landscape within the area of the capital. The wax museum I did many years back, but didn't find it that exciting. The Church in Mary Street is a good spot. I also like O'Neills in Suffolk Street, at least you can find some real Irish going there, plus they have a good carvery lunch there and they whack on quite big portions. (forget about all that tourist rip-off in Temple Bar, seriously.)

i always traveled money restricted. what should i say. when i finally had the money, i felt lonely and bored. set yourself borders to consume and strive for some adventure. the expensive comfort finally turns out to be the cheap satisfaction, but its not worse wasting.
however. restricting oneself from the beauty should not be an option. its often clear, if a dollar is consumption or investment. travelled mostly asia and development countries. was crazy big fun. and i met a ton of interesting people. more than you will eer meet in a hotel.
Head down to the IPO centre on Mount Street, they will sort you out.

Toba if you ever come to Sydney where I live is an indian community and everything is vegetarian/vegan and really cheap. It might be one of the most expensive cities in the world but I know where to get cheap veg food. A large value pizza is $5 here and the most popular is the vegetarian which is what I get, it has more toppings than the cheap meat pizzas.
