Jim Newstead does not lie .. reluctantly I add another band to Spotify play list - was akin to hearing a new Prog band in the 80s - what is "dark rock" - new to me - changes of tempo and melodic even at the first hearing ...
Good evening Jim, What an album. Loved the first two sides, was a bit less enthusiastic about the third (2songs) and now this. 🫠 I’m slowly melting. This is so damned good. And then that third song 🥹😎. My eyes are leaking again. Heard it already this morning when I listened to the whole album, in one go, on Spotify.
I've been prompted to write this. I whole heartedly agree with you about the power of music. Also, the surprising number of bands that go under the radar. Music has given me my MOJO over the last ten years, sometimes dealing with isolation here in New Zealand from my English homeland but also dealing with chronic fatigue whilst being a PE teacher. Woe is me, but in seriousness bands such as IQ, Big big train , Of course Marillion and multiple others have kept me going. One of those artists is Cosmograf with Robin Armstrong at the healm. His lyrics have often given me a connection as he is a 53 yr old as I am, English man with the same sort of memories and with a sort of rock, metal, Floyd thing going. I'm not saying have a listen but I just wanted to share a typical artist flying under the radar of most. Although I am a little disappointed at his voice being too forward in the mix on his latest album I still recommend the song and album Heroic materials for nostalgia towards our grandparents and their war memories and the changing world that they and our generation have endured. There you go, I got it all out.
Great reaction Jim ! Really liked the band, had heard the name, but not the music. In the same spirit of listening to new things can I highly recommend the Swedish band Dungen? Their album Ta Det Lungt is a lost masterpiece of the early noughties and they have an extensive discography with not one bad record. Hope you can give them a listen.
Great band and yes Jim, they have better albums than this. They are all great though 👍 The cd has two extra tracks including part two of that part one track and it's a long one. Should buy the cds Jim😊
@@JimNewsteadYes, better. Especially, Mankind the filthy ape, I Vigilante but only the last two are beaten by The Escape. Not that they are bad albums, not by any stretch, just not quite as good as previous stuff. Their second album was released as a double with two albums with two titles, later released separate, is the one/ones that sound the most like Meddle period Pink Floyd. I'd class The Escape as average for Crippled Black Phoenix. Seen them live, no light show as such but great sound, like having a great party with your favourite band, crowd all singing, they really know how to put on a show.
Of course i love that album !
Have 10 albums with cripple black phoenix..
There are more goodies to discover from them.
Stunning
I know!
Well, just ordered my vinyl and CD copy...Jim Newstead strikes again! 😆 Really good band!
Yay! Glad you liked!
Amazing band!!! (And their next two albums are even better!!!)
Even better????

Don't know Dungen - will investigate!
Worth a try, I think
Bloody hell, they might've as very well called that second part Have a Cigar while Echoes are On The Turning Away 😎🚬
That's a great title!
I'm so pleased you've loved this as much as I do!
Thanks again for sharing it with your channel. 🙂
Thank YOU! 🙏
I agree with you Jim, one of the best this year. Absolutely brilliant, thank you.
Bonus tracks exist 😀
Excellent! What genre? New progressive dark rock?? Enjoiyed this; hearing both PF and The Pinapple Thief in here :). VG. More??
No doubt I will feature more in the future!
Jim you mentioned parts of the second track's similarity to PF "Money" it has an even closer similarity to "Echoes"
They actually released a cover of Echoes on their New Dark Age EP (released in 2015), and very good it is too.
Great band and yes Jim, they have better albums than this. They are all great though 👍

Better, you say?
