The fact that it took you ONE attempt to get all 100 items and 18 secrets while going through infinite hordes of demons and literal firing squads is beyond impressive. This video is amazing.
Considering how many times I ran out of ammo on Hurt Me Plenty *without* a pistol start, I'm kinda just gobsmacked at the chaingun secret I never knew about until 5 minutes ago...
One attempt after practice, one attempt with commenting, one attempt with having a fresh memory of where everything is and trying to make a very smooth run, worthy of presenting. I presume...
Here's a funny thing - this level was originally meant to be in Doom 1 (an early version of it appeared in one of the Alphas), but ended up in Doom 2. Notice how it lacks the same degree of verticality we see in other levels. It's the only map in this game that was (partially) made by Tom Hall. It also marks the first appearance of the light amp goggles... and there's actually *three* of them in this level alone, out of a total of 5 for the entirety of Doom 2! (the remaining two are both in MAP27)
I thought this map for sure would give you troubles. But silly me not realizing a change of how to do the route in this map makes all the difference. Well done, sir.
My personal favorite map of all Doom 1 and 2 original maps. Tom Hall was an underrated mapmaker. This map is challenging, yet still fun with all the secrets and encounters. You have to think very tactfully with the hitscanners.
I love it too. When I think Doom 2 I think a long grinding slog against an unstoppable force. This huge depressing map really sells the dying world that I think ID were going for. It's one of the most evocative maps ever made, helped in no small part by the music.
I'm not a fan of it. Every room just looks empty and forgettable, the hitscanner room is painful to go through, and they added a Cyberdemon to the map, because why not.
This was always my go-to map, too. Played it to death. Never tried it on nightmare though :) I'd put my silly teenage wad creations on map10 just cos of the music...
But unfortunately the kill count is irrelevant, you can swap a room of barons that you avoid completely for the equivalent in imps, for example. So this achievement is broken in nightmare.
When I tried pistol-starting this level on Ultra-Violence, it literally took me one 4-hour session to finally beat it (so many so close to the end too). And here you are pistol-starting it on Nightmare with no outtakes. Watching these got me streaming Doom again (just custom WADS on Ultra-Violence), but I feel like I've picked up lessons from watching you play and I seem to be surviving a lot longer now.
Zeromaster would run through and kill almost nothing and finish the map in under the par time. But he wouldn't hit all the secrets or pick up all items.
Even when I first played this game like 25 years ago I could always tell that this map felt completely different compared to the rest of the wad. But now that I know it was a repurposed Tom Hall map it makes sense
Freakin love this map & this music with it! This was a fun map to play even in Nightmare Mode you need to think carefully before recklessing yourself on every enemies you come across! Well done good sir! This was indeed a smart run to play! 😄👏
Ah, map 10, the level with all these wonderful UAC doors... It almost feels like they are magical C: I've spent hours, months and years exploring the space behind them, even though I knew what there was) Since there's a lot of hitscanners, the chaingun is really a symbol and player's best friend in this area. And in general, there are so many unforgettable rooms and passages on this map! It consists of nothing but such sections, what an amazing element of the personification of the good old days! ✨
Good run. Brings another pack of good childhood memories since my dad loved to pistol-start this level in late 90's (but now he only plays Rome). I like this map as well even though it have a pretty nasty Cyberdemon (thank you green spheres and BFG).
I played this recently on UV for the first time and just struggled with it. I didn't end up getting everything, and thought I was just gonna be done altogether. Watching this video makes me want to give it another go and complete it this time around!
This is where Doom 2 really starts finding its pace. That room full of hitscanners and hidden chambers is always a challenge, and the cyberdemon fight is far from easy unless you know the trick.
Thanks for your content. I've been catching up with some of your older playlists, but I figured I should drop a message on a more recent video. I really love the passion you have for it, and it makes watching your videos a pleasant experience. I've got a lot more catching up to do, but I look forward to it all.
Starting my boot camp of playing the first two games, along with the Master Levels, Final Doom, and NRFTL, on the proper way of playing: mouse and keyboard. Watching your playthroughs on UV and Nightmare are goals to strive for, as well as just good entertainment and information. Good job, Pumpkin Man. 👍
Expertly done! Looks like a fun one. It really does give that Doom 1 vibe and it isn't a bad thng by any means. One of the few that looks like what it should be to some degree. Decino, have you seen anything on the stroller category for Doom maps?
1:10 Decino: this is going to be a pain in the ass getting all the items. Me: then don’t go for all the items. 4:46 WTF all these years I didn’t know that was three secrets in one.
I remember the first time i played this map in UV, it kicked my ass. I cant imagine how much training i would require to beat it on nightmare. excellent run!
Damn, that's an impressive run! I love how in doom2 maps become more elaborate with all these different sections, multi layered secrets and interesting enemy combos. First archvile coming up! :D
I like the way you went around the map. It's been ages since I've last played D2, but still remembered that I always went completely different ways. I also thought there were more hitscanning enemies in this one, but apparently not. Also in overall D2 had way more powerups than I remembered. Though I haven't ever even tried to find all the secrets of its maps. Good run anyway.
Love that pinkie that teleported right in from of him at the end, as if he was determined to stop Decino from winning at all costs, just before getting killed in a single shotgun shot.
I saw the length of the video and knew this will be no recording deaths again. But good practice makes virtue! Good usage of invuln to get those pesky container secrets with health bonuses.
That thumbnail, though. An imp wearing a flaming horned bone helmet. Quite a fashion statement. Gotta appreciate how decino reviews the footage and manages to find that one frame.
Appropriate that you called it a big boy. This level has the most kills and secrets of any level in the game, and thank goodness for the HUD because it's very easy to forget 18 secrets, very easy to forget one!! Luckily for you it doesn't have the highest number of items, that honour belongs to The Courtyard
Three videos to watch all three are levels which gave me some trouble when I was new to doom this and the factory saying that circle of death is equally one I can't imagine being easy on nightmare lots of hit scanners in this level so yeah gunner be good got my tea in hand got some biscuits to dunk it's a good morning. I have to say though the way you approached this level the route you took definitely seemed to be the best way for sure. Anyway I'm off to the next one and with that as always cheers for upload decino

Just realized this is the 1st entrance of Cyberdemon in Doom2 I bought Serious Sam TFE and TSE on Steam for a very funny low price and started playing on Normal difficulty :D I've recently watched your walkthrough for fun for 2nd time and I wanted to try myself. I have TSE on CD but don't have CD player on my laptop lmao
Super efficient, very impressive. I think the city levels will be a slog, but I suspect you'll do fine. I'm really curious to see some of the hell levels.

I just got Mandela effected so hard by this video. I've played this game so many times and somehow I never knew that little room with the shotgun and health bonuses at the very beginning existed. Wild.
Routing is especially important in a level like this where there's more possible ways to tackle the level than my tired mind even wants to think right now. Like seriously, I've played through this level dozens of times and never once took the exact route you did here. Also, the nonlinearity means this is one of those levels that gets a lot better when you pistol start IMHO.
Yo decino, since you're doing these videos for doom's upcoming 30 year anniversary, I recommend you buying the doom's bronze floppy disc (which's also made for this occasion). Also I'm surprised with how you're going so far, keep the pace and you'll become as good as Zero Master! :)
Map 10 is quite intensive indeed. I would say on Ultraviolence is pretty trivial but on nightmare you have to a bit of strategy on killing the enemies. Other than that pretty fun map on Nightmare.
