Wow I miss travelling and Switzerland. The best way of seeing Europe is by train. Europe has a good railway system and Switzerland has one of the best.. Love the fact that you can go almost anywhere by train in Switzerland.
I'm jealous of the railway system in Switzerland. All of the trains are prepaired for snowy days. But in the Netherlands, the railways screech to a hault when a little bit of snow lays on the tracks
Herzlichen Dank!!!
I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time I've watched this video, and I think it's my favourite because of the blue morning light. I like the scenery, & going fast too. :D
My mother-in-law lived in Wienacht, Rorschacherberg, and now Rorschach. Wienacht was definitely beautiful as she lived on top of a hill, you could see the A1, the regional airport and the Bodensee. Haven't been back for about 7 years now. I miss Switzerland so much
Hello, fantastic views on this video, great scenery throughout much appreciated, l live in the UK was a ex railway worker retired in 2000 33years on the railways, my son is a driver on freight trains in the UK mainly on the class 66 locos (diesel) take care stay safe. Brian 😊🙏👍
What an excellent video to watch while we here in Kansas city, Kansas USA finally get our accumulating first snow. So far we got about 3 to 5 inches and more in areas. And more to come. Your video is beautiful in every way as usual. Thanks for sharing. I love your videos and love sharing them with my train group on Facebook. They love your trips. Be safe. God bless and keep them videos. coming.
Greetings from Ontario Canada. I enjoyed that. They really do tilt. :-) Love your railway system. I have watched many of your videos. Thanks for sharing.
A wonderful ride, seeing the snow slowly turning from blue to white. Thank you. I recall a tilt train trip to Lausanne; it was fascinating inside the carriage seeing the tilt.
Must be an interesting feeling riding a tilting train through a super-elevated curve (where the inside rail is lowered to accommodate greater speed for non-tilting trains through a curve).
That's an approach into Zürich I don't think I've seen before. So there's a tunnel that takes you from just outside Oerlikon straight into the underground tracks at Zürich HB, then.
Heute habe ich die schöne Reise beendet. Die Geschwindigkeitsunterschiedsanzeigen in Gelb wären besser lesbar.Graue Immel und Volken.... Tolles Video.👍👍👍
The light and the undisturbed snow make for some idyllic scenes. Particularly in the earlier stages when it looks as if we were the first train along since the snow had covered the tracks. Particularly dramatic with the passing train @ 7:36 in a flurry of snow.
At the 11:03 mark, you blasted a couple of hundred tons of metal, at somewhere around 115 km/h, in way early morning frigid conditions, past the Flawill platform, which was full of people? Where they waving at you with 5 fingers or just the 'ol you're #1?
Sehr interessantes Video.
Thanks for sharing the tilt experience again, just wondering if the kneeling FV-Dostos are allowed the same or indeed better speed dispensations: otherwise put, can they keep up with ICN? Thanks also for sharing the superb lighting, Switzerland is full of evocative effects like that and that's just one reason for me to return once we all have our lives back. More power to you and your team \m/
I find as I'm sitting here I am leaning with the tilt as the video train moves along! I'm not on the train, but I wondered if you lean as you're in the drivers seat? Did you have any adjusting yourself when you first started with this type of vehicle?
@@Bellator-dk1bg Well I must admit that I find the base Tunnel more interestinf because its a high speed line. Which needs much more effort in building it than a normal line. One tiny millimeter of a displaced track can be fatal
Has Talgo, which also has some sort of tilting mechanism, ever been tested in Switzerland? And if so, how did it perform in comparison with Pendolino? Asking because I've recently read that the Germans are going to replace the ICE T (which is based on Pendolino) with Talgo.
Talgos used to run in Switzerland a while ago, but they only had a passive tilting system for comfort reasons and were always pulled by a locomotive, thus we're not any faster than other trains. It's not comparable to the ICNs active tilting mechanism that leads to higher speeds.
Brilliant video - many thanks - just one question... How much time has been cut from the journey from St Gallen to Zurich (and on to Lausanne) by these new trains? I appreciate the increase in comfort, and probably power efficiency etc from the new trains, but really what is the benefit time-wise?
I don't have exact numbers, but all these small adjustments allow for half-hourly or hourly connections on bigger stations and a well-working integral system. This is the main goal.
Because the train body tilts, does the cab units have two snow ploughs? One on the body, which tilts, and is part of the 'aero' and another on the leading wheel bogie assembly as the body plough will leave gaps to allow for tilting.. Does the area round St.Gallen suffer 'lake affect' snowfall. An increase in snowfall due to wind crossing the Bodensee lifting moisture which turns to extra snow?
There is only an aerodynamic "plow" on the body itself. No idea regarding the snow, St. Gallen is a bit higher than most cities and probably gets more snow anyway.
@@RailwayEmotions Thank. Yes, the organization of the railway is very different. And train drivers work in one person, the conditions for this are appropriate.
I must admit I was a little surprised by how slow a speed these trains are allowed to go. The occasional curves must be quite restrictive. In the UK a lot of EMUs are now permitted to travel at around 170 kph anywhere that's reasonably straight. I guess the curves we have must be less tight. Could someone tell me how speed is indicated, I couldn't see any signs?
140+ through towns and cities is not what I would call slow. Signal distances also limit the speed. It is shown on a tablet or paper charts that we carry with us.
@@RailwayEmotions I guess I particularly meant the stretches of quite straight track in the countryside, but even compared with the UK some of these were relatively short. Do the charts you have "move" as you travel, or do they just mention a location and you have to know where that is?
The snow at the start is awesome 👌🏻 I wish it was like that every year.
I would love that! Nothing beats the feeling of being the first train of the day after heavy snowfall, with all tracks buried under the snow!
Enjoying with a cup of coffee 🌼🌞
I love a good train ride and I love the snow, both in the same video, glad I came along for the ride. Thanks

Does the tilting bother riders or is this train pretty popular?

If you pay attention to it you can usually notice it. I find it really comfortable though.
St Gallen is especially worth a visit because it has many brothels

Why does it tilt when it doesn't need to, some one should turn it off to save the tilting mechanism.
How long does it take to study as a train driver in Switzerland? What is the course of study there, who knows? It would be interesting to compare.
The train companies usually train the drivers themselves. It usually takes between a year and two, full time.
@@RailwayEmotions Thank. Yes, the organization of the railway is very different. And train drivers work in one person, the conditions for this are appropriate.
