    Dan hit the nail on the head about Mahomes. He processes information exceedingly fast and this enables him to react quicker. Watched the Netflix show Quarterback and it was apparent that Mahomes had capacity that the other two didn't. Kirk Cousins is operating at 100%. He gives it everything he's got, but that might not be sufficient to win it all. Mariotta . . . he seemed over-matched by the speed of the game. Mahomes had so much processing capacity that the game probably slows down for him. Just an observation.

    Dan is a great analyst and has a lot of really incredible insight. His argument for why Shanahan should have deferred the kickoff in overtime makes no sense though. It’s the same argument that could be made for WHY you should receive the kick! The decision was not poor to accept the kick, it was just poor execution to not score a touchdown on that drive.

    • @johnevans4936
      @johnevans4936 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mahomes was hot and you know he was going to score.
      - exactly. Your defense was tired and needed a break. If you let him get that first possession, they will 100% score a touchdown. Then you HAVE to score a touchdown, and even then Mahomes would get the ball back in sudden death and win it then. Instead, get the first possession, score a touchdown, and make Mahomes match you so that you then get the chance to end it in sudden death. (They just didn’t execute and score a touchdown)

    With the flexibility Mahomes purposely built into his contract you can get 26-27M to spend this off season. They’ll have enough with that plus auxiliary moves like cutting MVS to re-sign Jones and Sneed. They’ll have to take less than the absolute top of market. But with the chance to 3-peat that’s not a tough sell. Then you can add a veteran WR like Mike Evans. In the draft you can shoot your whole wad and move up for Joe Alt. Or move up fewer spots and target Jordan Morgan. Also look at a Dominick Puni with your pick in the 90s. If he falls Byron Murphy would be awesome in the low 20s or 32. There’s no much out there you can open up in the draft when you have the allure of the 3-peat to dangle in front of free agents!

    • @kwoylee5617
      @kwoylee5617 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really, really hope they can keep Jones and Sneed. Chris, in particular, is to the defense what Travis and Mahomes are to the offense, and I think team morale and leadership would take a huge hit if he was to leave. Sneed has gotten a lot of attention in recent games - and rightly so - but the Chiefs wouldn't have been within sniffing distance of a Super Bowl this year without Chris Jones. He also stopped at least two touchdowns by SF during the game. They need to keep him at any cost!

    I think the decision to take the ball first in overtime was the right one: the defense was exhausted and Purdy had already experienced quite a few 3-and-outs in the second half, so it would be better not to pressure him with having to score a TD if that's what the Chiefs had done. Purdy was good enough for a field goal against the Chiefs' defense. Then Mahomes was better, as he nearly always is. Defenses were huge throughout the game. The better QB was the difference, but I would not criticise Purdy more than what I would criticise Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson, who also lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs.

    I believe that Pelé and Maradona were both better than Messi.
    For years, I believed that Montana was better than Brady (and part of me still does, given rule changes that favor today's quarterbacks). But even I had to acknowledge that Brady probably left him well behind after coming back from 28-3, then winning a Super Bowl with a brand new team four years after he should have retired.
    I say all this to emphasize that I resist recency bias almost as a matter of religious dogma. Given that personality trait, I still say that Patrick Mahomes plays the quarterback position better than it has ever been played... By anyone... Ever.
    And, it's not even close.

      at the moment, he is as good as montana, aikman, elway, manning, the bald hick from the steelers, whatshisname
      as good as tom brady too. but tom with his looooong career, is the GOAT because he did it for too long.
      but from an excellence over a six year stretch, mahomes is already in the top tier and some of the above QBs had 12 years to do it.
