Happened to play my first post-COVID gig on his Birthday.
I did “Wondering Where the Lions Are”, immediately I felt some hope.
I hope he knows how beloved he is!

Glad they're highlighting Bruce's acoustic playing. His electric work is good, but he's one of the greatest acoustic guitar players in the world, having mastered fingerstyle, leads, rhythm playing, arpeggios..."Dancing In the Dragon's Jaws" alone, which has two of these songs, is a showcase.

i see he's got a Boucher guitar , very hi end made in Quebec , Bruce Cockburn in my opinion is one of the most under rated song writer , guitar player , musician , vocalists of all time , in any order.. that is . Serendipitously , I stumbled upon this video . So ; I nabbed my guitar to take the opportunity to learn some guitar phrases from Bruce .
But then about 10 minutes into the video , Bruce decides to play the full version of " If I Had a Rocket Launcher " ...
just him alone without a band sitting in a small studio where he is playing his acoustic guitar .
It is one the best recorded solo performances I have ever heard . Bruce is a true master of the acoustic guitar .
I have been following Bruce's music since the early 1970s when he was performing at folk festivals during the era of the " free festivals " .
His songwriting and guitarwork has only improved over time . Thank you Acoustic Guitar Magazine for uploading this video .
Peace and good health to you all ... Miles from Canada .

He pretty much sang the entire song… some songs just demand it for various reasons….this song is so viceral and important that Bruce had no choice but to obey. He may have wrote it but it has a life force of its own. Wotta song huh? Wotta performance by its creator! We are blessed and I’m enough of a fingerpicker to have absorbed the keys to the castle. I am doubly blessed by this video. Been obsessed by “Wonderin Where the Lions Are” ever since it came out- in the last few years have gotten pretty close- this video? Drop D tuning dummy 🙄! Now I’ve got it….. the way “the Creator intended” no less! Just like that! Boy, if there was TH-cam 30 years ago… all we had was vinyl (or cassettes-thank gawd for mix tapes! Record companies wanted to throw us in jail- copyright infringement, don’tcha know-) Then came CDs and sampling…. Here we go again! Royalties!! Intellectual property!!! Oy vey!! Some of us are just trying to learn the songs! Or share a copy with a friend! Napster and its users got crucified! (No joke-jail and fines DID happen-a lot!)
Any way, thanks Bruce and God bless you and yours!! You are a living treasure-please don’t ever stop 🙏😘!!!

Genius Lenny Breau and BB King for me. I am 72 now still trying, but hurting with an old body. I worked with Jack Zaza, and he told me amazing stories of Lenny Breau. Personally not a fan of folk but respect to Bruce. He can certainly play. Would love to back him up one day. Met BB and of course Lenny many times Over the years. Then became friends with Danny Gatton, and found out he and Lenny privately recorded tapes together. I asked some of Danny’s friends after he died. No one knows where he put them. According to Danny back then there are hundreds. Respect to all, Especially all you amazing guitar players.

I wrote an instrumental and 2 people said : That's a Bruce Cockburn song. He never has much to say live so this video is great. Also the CBC Q radio session with Tom Power shows him talking like crazy. My favourite albums: Humans, The Trouble with Normal, Breakfast in New Orleans, Night Vision. My favourites to play: Wondering where the lions are, Rumours of glory, Mama Just wants to Barrelhouse, Foxglove.

Watched a clip on TV, saw a kid (Bruce) playing Musical Friends.
His music was joyous. Saw early concerts in coffee shops. He's always delivered thoughtful and skillful albums. Hoping he can help resuscitate our Vancouver Folk Festival 🇨🇦

Ti ascolto dal primo tuo album. Adoro la tua musica. Suono spesso le tue canzoni. Almeno ci provo. Grazie per la tua musica che mi ha accompagnato per tutta la vita. Grazie ancora. Ti prego, fai altri video come questo: sono utilissimi per riprodurre la tua musica.

Dear Bruce...I came across your music only today...But I remembered that some 2 decades ago or more some overseas friends told me that i have some elements in common with you! This was -I can see now- very flattering for me...Thanks 4 the lovely music!!!

BC was a major discovery for me in the early 80s. I just wish I had had the brains & motivation to learn this finger-picking style much earlier. Still trying to even get WWTLionsAre right! Thanks Bruce!!!

Wow! I heard a lot of his stuff in my earlier years, but forgot about this style. So good to hear it again! It’s amazing that he retains so much - skill not diminished after so many years. The right hand seems to dance and bounce to the rhythm. What a cool guy!

This makes me so very happy. Such smooth playing. Been in love with Bruce Cockburn music since I first heard it decades ago. Been going to bed to a shuffle of Speechless lately, but In the Falling Dark is probably my favorite album.
