I'd say Jesus was its first martyr, because Christianity did not exist until Jesus began His earthly ministry, and therefore the babies could not be it's first martyrs, Christianity didn't exist yet.

@Ruger Man My experience of Christianity had proven otherwise.
      John 14:6 KJV
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus existed before his birth. All of the Jewish martyrs are Christian martyrs.

Wow, the question in itself is shocking..If it's in the Bible, it is TRUE historical history (Matthew 2:16). Let's read our Bibles and submit to what we read.

The slaughter of innocents took place 2 years after the birth of Jesus but would harmonize about the time Herod went on a rampage. Notice the greek wording mentions Jesus as a young child. The magi came to a house not a barn. Jesus was in Nazareth at the time then fled to Egypt. Noticed from the Biblical stand point Herod was judged by God when he allowed his mind to commit these murderous acts. He died miserably in fits of rage and other things afflicting his physical body.

Says, "We have more primary evidence of Herod the Great than on anyone else in the BC world." Says there's nothing written on him killing babies. Says, "I see not one iota of evidence it didn't happen. No reason to doubt the account that it happened."

Because an argument from silence is a weak argument. And the fact that the event is so miniscule in irrelevant for Josephus compared to Herod's political killings, but significant enough for the Nativity narrative.
People always forget that the books written at that time were not written like history books today, where ancient history (Josephus' Antiquity of the Jews and etc.) were focused on a specific theme and would rather remove facts that didn't mesh well with the narrative, rather than laying out all the known facts like modern history textbooks.

@bigtruth9653 Would you convict a man for murder with no evidence?

"1 of 2 things could have happened."
Why couldn't he have NOT murdered babies? Because you don't want him to be innocent of this horrible thing?
Says more about you and your integrity

on jan 10 1 bc, herod executed the sons of the high priests for instigating a riot of removing the roman eagle from the gates leading to the temple. it occurred during a lunar eclipse. the massacre of the innocents would have coincided with this because on dec 25, 2bc, the magi visited the christ child, this coincided with jupiter going into retrograge, the star stopped.

Herod did so many evil things, why is so hard to belive that he killed the babies? For sure he did many more evil things that we don't know about. We know many, but not all of it

Because records were kept at this time. Something like the massacre of over 2000 babies, would be in a narrative. It’s literally nowhere except the Christian Bible. Not even hints of it. Nothing.

@עִמָּנוּאֵל If God were to judge what you did with His Son, it would be unfair to not have access to truth. God is just, Truth, and loving. Dont get caught up in nonsense that ultimately allows you to forfeit your decision. Truth relates all things in logical confirmation of itself. Most people just dont believe because they are spiritually dead with no interest in denying themselves especially in this time. It would all seem foolish. Those who have ears to hear, let him hear...
