    3:00 25 meters
    Step by step solution: Ignoring air resistance and friction, the roller coaster car problem can be solved using the conservation of energy. Gravitation Potential Energy (GPE) is the 'stored' energy that a coaster has at the top of the lift hill. Kinetic Energy (KE) is the energy of the moving coaster.
    GPE = mass of the coaster car x gravitational constant (on earth it's 9.8 m/s/s) x the height
    KE = 1/2 x mass of the coaster car x velocity squared.
    At any given instant in time, the coaster car has a combination of GPE and KE. To simply the solution, we'll assume this is similar to a dive coaster where at the very top, 100% of the energy is GPE and 0% is KE.
    We don't know the where the coaster is along the track, nor the initial height, only that at a height of 40 meters it is traveling at 10 m/s. Whatever combination of GPE and KE it had at that moment, there is a different combination of GPE and KE when the coaster car is traveling at 20 m/s. If the coaster is traveling faster, than some of he GPE was converted to KE. At both instants in time, the car has some value of KE and GPE.
    Total Energy = GPE + KE
    Total Energy = mgh + 1/2 m v^2
    Total Energy = (mass x 9.8 x height) + (1/2 x mass x 10^2)
    If the coaster is now going faster, than some of the GPE was converted to KE. The coaster has dropped by some distance and the velocity has increased to 20 m/s.
    Total Energy = mg(height - drop) + (1/2 x mass x 20^2)
    The total energy remains constant, so we can set the two equations equal to one another.
    (mass x 9.8 x height) + (1/2 x mass x 10^2) = mass x 9.8 x (height - drop) + (1/2 x mass x 20^2)
    Now we simplify the formula using algebra.
    1) Mass is on both sides of the equation, so we can cancel out the mass of the coaster car.
    2) I will simplify 10^2 as 100 and 20^2 as 400.
    3) I will also apply the 1/2 factors to the squared velocities. (1/2 of 100 = 50 and 1/2 of 400 = 200)
    The resulting simplified formula is: 9.8 x height + 50 = 9.8 (height - drop) + 200.
    Distribute the 9.8 on the right side of the equation gives us: 9.8 x height +50 = 9.8 x height - 9.8 x drop + 200
    Subtract '9.8 x height' from both sides results in: 50 = -9.8 x drop + 200
    Subtract 200 from each side results in the equation: -150 = -9.8 x drop
    Divide both sides by -9.8 results in: -150/-9.8 = drop
    drop = 15 meters
    The coaster's height at a velocity of 20 m/s is equal to the original height of 40 m minus the drop of 15 m = 25 meters.

    Concerning the Leap-the-Dips question:
    Having visited Lakemont numerous times over the years, with the latest being in 2020 when the coaster when through a major refurbishment, Leap-the-Dips is night and day depending where you sit in the car. In the front row, it is smooth, perhaps one of the smoothest woodies I’ve ridden. In the back row, even though the dips are mild and the largest drop is only nine feet, there is legit airtime that will send your but crashing down into your seat.
    Now, can a baby ride in a harness strapped to the parent? In theory, yes. However, that baby is still at risk of bodily harm, as even the front warrants the risk of the parent shifting mid-ride into the fixed lap-bar, thus risking injury or worse to the infant.
    Obviously, the park will say no, but I am going in-length to describe this to illustrate why it is a terrible idea (in case someone takes it to heart).
    Great video, you two! Looking forward to your next installment!

    2:57 It's just a simple physics question on energy and the conservation of energy (Initial Energy = Final Energy)
    It seems that both Gravity Potential Energy/GPE (mass * gravity * height) and Kinetic Energy/KE (1/2 mass * velocity^2) play a part in this
    Since no mass was mentioned, you can cancel that portion out.
    Gravity is 9.81m/s^2, Initial Height is 40m, Initial Velocity is 10m/s and Final Velocity is 20m/s
    Main Formula is: Initial GPE + Initial KE = Final GPE + Final KE, the final height coming from Final GPE
    So just add in the values and you get: (9.81*40) + (1/2 10^2) = (9.81*height) + (1/2 20^2)
    Solve it and round out to the nearest hundredth and you get: 442.40 = 200 + (9.81*height)
    Subtract 200 from both sides: 242.40 = 9.81*height
    Divide both sides by 9.81, and you have your final answer for the height at 20m/s (rounded out to 2 decimal places): 24.71m
    As long as you know the formula, it won't that hard, thankful I can finally put what I learned in physics to use 😅. Just lmk if you guys need any clarifications

He said that they would probably get more visitors down there since it’s near the U.S. even though Canada’s Wonderland is the most visited seasonal amusement park in North America. Lol.

  • @ChiefBlueScreen
    @ChiefBlueScreen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    2:58 the question cannot be answered because we don't know if the train is currently experiencing any acceleration, or the train is moving at a constant 10m/s and then some acceleration is applied at t=0. I bet this person is not in a higher-level physics class, where you will also have to account for friction and air resistance.
    If I were a trolling-type physics student, I would say "this is a launch coaster where the launch is angled upwards, so I would say 45m high." I assume they're talking about acceleration due to gravity, but I feel like a good physics question would specify that.

    • @ChiefBlueScreen
      @ChiefBlueScreen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming it's the case that the car drops off the MCBR going 10m/s, we can start by saying that our desired velocity is (20m/s - 10m/s) or 10m/s. We can plug that into our equation Velocity = Acceleration * Time. Solving for time means we will have gained 10m/s in ~1.02 seconds. Now that we have time, we can then plug that into the distance function, D = (A*t^2)/2. This leaves D being ~5.10. Putting this back in context, this means that we will have gone down by ~5.1 meters to add 10m/s to our velocity, which means that if we start at 40m off the ground, we will be at 34.90m off the ground when the car reaches 20m/s.

      The question is clearly a conservation of energy one. You're comparing the potential energy at the start (potential energy = mgh where m is mass, g is the accerlation due to gravity, a constant, and h is the height) and the kinetic energy at the start (kinetic energy = 1/2 mv^2, where m is mass and v is velocity. Because m shows up in both equations is why the question doesn't need a given mass. I'm pretty sure that's enough info to calculate it.

      First of alll, it's clearly an ideal physics problem where resistance doesn't matter. I'm too high rn to be certain but there's another commenter who said the same thing, I'm pretty sure the angle has nothing to do with it nor does the mass (everything falls at the same acceleration due to gravity, what the question is asking is irrelevant to mass).

Back in the 1960's, inside Casa De Fritos was a huge diorama of a mountain with a mine. (Like a BIG model train layout.) At the front was a coin acceptor. You'd drop in a nickel and you would hear audio of "The Frito Kid" shouting down into the mine to a guy named "Klondike" with something like "Hey Klondike, more Fritos. The best corn chips made!" Klondike would reply:" The freshest too! Crisp, salted, golden brown Fritos! Good anytime! (or another similar exchange.) Then, a bag of Fritos would ascend a miniature conveyor belt "up from the mine". Very surreal. Yeah. Doritos were in fact, invented at Disneyland.
