The original musical took place in 1920's Chicago, so the setting is during the depression. Hell it's reference several times during the movie with characters constantly hunting for jobs.
Such a good message - as a kid watching this you very much just see it as "homeless people aren't totally done just yet", but it actually really applies to anyone at any point in their life. Just never stop trying. Feel the pain, the hurt, and the anger, sure. But never stop trying.
Their cars had pedals, the guns fired whipped cream and the booze was brightly colored koolaid. Very unique movie and a guilty favorite for many...including certain Sneak Previews alumni.
sure it's kinda cynical exploiting the circumstances of the poor and homeless to recruit them into a mafia-like organization to do gangster shit, but then that's a really catchy song, so... 💁♀
When we had to do the play in our school, and i had the role of Shady, last words of my friend before we left school were 'Keep it shady', still think about every now and then lol.
Everyone's saying how nostalgic this is because they've acted as one of the characters in there year 6 production but like think about how nostalgic it is for the actual actors in this movie lmaoo
For the most part I notice many like myself have seen this movie decades ago and now here we are again.....A great testament to how much this movie and its parts (Mostly music) have remained in our heads for all those years and now here we are reliving those great songs....
When i was younger in primary most of the school went to a grammar secondary to see a play of this movie and it was very memorable. Im very impressed of secondary school children's talent and confidence. Including the actual movie here😆
I rewatched this today, not having seen it in years and years. This was the one song that really made me sit up in my seat like, "woah, okay, this is different."
i played bugsy in our high school summer production off bugsy malone n i loved doin this tune. especially the line "fight n fight sum more, until the world is ready to recive you!!!!"
It brings back so many happy memories of my school days in 1980 when we had a video club and every month there was only 5 films we watched again and again on the old VHS systems. Feels like a life time ago. Bless.
We did this play 11 years ago with the local theater, and the props guy made us all splurge guns :) to make it easier to clean up, they shot silly string. Bugsy Malone created great memories for all of us involved :)
When we did this play at school I didn’t play Blousy like seemingly everyone else who comments on these videos. I played the one character no one remembers 😂
You don't have to sit around complaining 'bout the way your life has wound up. Think of all the time you waste and time's a precious thing to let go by. Sure you've hit the bottom, but remember you'll be building from the ground up. Everyday's another step that takes you even closer to the sky, so give a try. Down, down, down, down, down, down, down and out. You don't have to sit around depressed about the way that luck deceived you. Fortune sailed away, you missed that boat and found that you'd been left behind. Fight and fight some more until you know the world is ready to receive you. Lady luck is fickle, but a lady is allowed to change her mind. You don't have to sit around complaining 'bout the way your life has wound up. So be a man, you know you can't be certain that you'll lose until you try. We as one shout up, up, up and out.

I’ve loved this movie since it came out, after watching & reading the Godfather this was replicated with choreography, music, songs, life in the depression & FUN. I LOVE THE MOVIE & these clips.
I will always adore this film. I watched it at first because we were doing it at my theatre group but I know watch it whenever I can because I love it so much
Gah, the nerves. I have to play piano for our school play. I'd say try and use the nerves to your advantage, work with them, they give you that edge. Even those on the West End get nervous! Enjoy it!
I love this because i always imagined after this Bugsy explained what he wanted them to do (which he didn't do in the song) and they're like, 'hold up, you want us to do what now?'

Ditto! I watched this as a kid first time round and back then I thought this was the best song apart from ordinary fool which came a very close second. I'm 40 now! glad kids still love it!
I think it's safe to say this piece was an Homage to the Great Depression. This was one of My favorite movies as a kid i still like it.

I love this because of how mature the singer is and how cute the actors voice is and when put together it's comical

RiP Sir Alan Parker, one of the greatest British film directors of all time, your films will live on for years to come, thank you
