      not really, vaguely feels like it is it, but isnt precise enough to discern it being intentional. probably either an accidental resemblance or it was used as a starting point and altered heavily

    The third movement is like Lightning Field.

    • @allandaleus7287
      @allandaleus7287 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually, Lightning Field comes from this third movement. It was essentially simplified for high schools to be able to play. All three movements have their own simplification for high school players to enjoy!

      I like the speed UT played the third movement (faster). Both are great in my opinion.

    • @CorvetteCoonass
      @CorvetteCoonass 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I personally like UNT's version better. Junkin tends to rush sections needlessly and I'm not the only person who thinks this. The bridge section in the 1st movement was rushed so fast by Junkin that I felt the part lost it's groove. He's not a bad conductor as he does extremely well on Lincolnshire Posy and other pieces, but there are instances where he just takes things way too fast.

    • @FelipeRodriguez-rr9qu
      @FelipeRodriguez-rr9qu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jayden Bernal in my view, Junkin or the UT wind band adds expression to what Mackey intels in his music, which at times can be pretty cool and the UT band knows how to show Mackey off with his master pieces.

    • @bartholomewthundercatiii3484
      @bartholomewthundercatiii3484 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think the UT Wind Ensemble brought out the most important parts and brought the third movement to its full potential. Not saying UNT played it inadequately, but I think this recording seemed to neglect the most powerful parts and played with less expression.

    • @happy-composer
      @happy-composer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UT for sure. Corporon is just really conservative with tempo and expression and ESPECIALLY in Mackey, you can’t be that conservative. Mackey demands that you go all out.

    That is one bombastic son-of-a-bitch. No offense intended. The band is superlative.

  • @barryknezek1008
    @barryknezek1008 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think the Lone Star Wind Orchestra performance on this is the cleanest and most musical of all three.
    The percussion parts sound really dry and not resonant.

    • @george9065
      @george9065 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the performance space. Winspear Hall is pretty dry and cuts a lot of higher frequencies so, that may be it.

    All y'all clarinet players need pad cleaners so you don't have to blow the spit out

    • @elisecurran9497
      @elisecurran9497 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my 50 years of clarinet playing, I have found that there is no sure way to prevent the water (condensation, not spit) from collecting under certain pads. The clarinet section in band is playing all the time, compared to the other woodwinds, putting a lot of air through the horn, so we naturally get more water in our tone holes. You can use pad paper to absorb a lot of the water, especially immediately under the pad, but there's also water in the tone hole, and you have to blow it out, too, or you will get the lovely 'warble' during a nice solo!
