  • I hiked Mt Bierstadt over Memorial Day Weekend 2019. Since the winter of 2018/2019 brought Colorado copious amounts of snow, the hike was in full blown snow conditions.

    Nice video great expansive views up there this time of year. Looks like a good time of year to do this hike. This mountain should be renamed Busystadt everytime I have been up there it has been busy. Agree a dog could do it but might not be a great experience with all the crowds.

      also pretty much only saw a handful of people which is rare on this mountain as we all know 🙂

      @@jasonthomas16 Yeah your experience was much different than ours, there was a solid line of people from the ridge down to the western fields. Oh well, thats how it goes on Bierstadt!

    Can you ski this?

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can but need rock skis and somewhat lucky with your coverage. Snow usually isn’t great because it’s so wind blown.

      @@TheVirtualSherpa Ah, I see, thanks. It hadn't occurred to me as a ski location until I saw this video, and I suppose that makes sense.

    How were the post holes? I went about 2 weeks ago and was sinking to my waist in some parts of the approach hike

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly it wasn't too bad - we started around 6 and ended around 11 and didnt wear the SS on the way down. Maybe 1-2 problem spots but if you stayed in the more packed area of the trail it honestly wasn't even a worry. I am sure that will change day to day as we warm.

    Have you seen anyone skiing or riding this 14er?

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daniel Villafuerte for sure - def a good intro to skiing the 14ers but not always able to rip it from the summit. Of course it’s def not in anymore tho, you would have to wait until next season

    Would you say that Capital Peak is the hardest 14er in Colorado like everyone says?

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kditty12 it was pretty tough, hardest? I’m not sure. Haven’t done Little Bear yet but that one is usually what most people say is the toughest. Long ass approach and technical climb to the top, hopefully can report back later in the summer once I’ve done it. Maroon Bells Traverse was much harder than Capitol for me though in terms of what I’ve done so far.

      @@TheVirtualSherpa Thank you for the reply. I love the channel. I am from the midwest so I don't have much great hiking around here, but I plan a trip in August to CO and me and my buddy are going to try and do Longs Peak for our first 14er. Debating right now whether we should do it all in one day or backpack to the base of boulder field then get up the next day to do the Keyhole Route to the summit.

      @@LESPAUL44mag Thanks man, appreciate the kind words. Haven't done Longs yet so no insight there, but I can say its not the "easiest" of the 14ers to do on your first attempt. Good luck!

    Nice video. When do you think the mountains will be mostly free of snow this year?

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really hard to guess since it keeps coming, but I would say middle to end of July we should start seeing more dry trail than snow.
