"Oh... That Rimmer." 😟 Three words to sum up the legend, the man every woman doesn't want to be with, and every man would rather shoot himself in the foot than talk to him. 😂 No one else could have played him. This is platinum comedy, people.
TRUE!!!!!!! I can't imagine how much progress lister would've made without him or the cat, despite bickering so often - he still fulfills his purpose of keeping him company and keeping him ok and in one piece, and for so many years as well
@icemanlj2k7 - He was in Stasis in the first episode - literally frozen in time and therefore not "asleep". On exiting Stasis in the first episode Lister especially says "I had only just gone in!" as he doesn't notice time passing. He didn't age in any way either. In this episode he was in deep sleep and there are clear differences - his hair continued to grow as did his nails as he wasn't actually "frozen in time" in the same way Stasis works. He was just in a prolonged sleeping state instead.
“Rimmer? He’s my best mate, isn’t he?” Honestly, if I was gonna rank Lister’s friends from best to worst, it would go: Kryten Cat Holly Those robot things that go around the ship (I think they’re called Skutters) Rimmer The dead crew Toastie the Toaster
I believe this is a great introductory episode. You get introduced to all the characters, and if it's your first time watching, you also get to experience Lister's amnesia.
@@BBeret Yeah of all the first episodes to be introduced to it was a good choice! I only started watching because I was familiar with the name and a few one liners - computer mags at the time would put a few choice lines on their cover discs and of course I loved the idea of what those lines represented - I have to say, the episodes in full were better than I anticipated.
This is the point they changed the continuity from never having the courage to last kochanski out to the RD novel version where he dated here for a short time.
It wasn’t believable he’d be that hung up over a girl he never had a relationship with. It was more in character if she dumped him and he was rebounding when he went into stasis then never had a chance to move on.
@phantomhurricane666 Rimmer didn't need to stay in deep sleep since he was a hologram, but probably turned off (or something) for a while. I suppose cat must have been awake since the spring, while Lister was having his extra 3 months.
I did for a while because i'm a rimmer girl at heart, and he wasn't in some of series 7. but i got persuaded and they're ok,some quite good laughs in them.
The thing about deep sleep and stasis is that it could have solved all their problems in no time. When they got the time machine that couldn't travel through space, they could have gone back in time 6 million years, gone into stasis, then travelled back to Earth (3 million years) and ended up in the same time they were in when Red Dwarf was wiped out. If they weren't so thick, I'd argue that's a plot hole, hah.
Waiting for the radiation to get to non harmful levels. Real question is why he keeps heading into deep space for 3 million years. Surely he/she had a clue a while through of how long it would take, and start heading back somewhere after 1 1/2 million years. Not everything would have tied up nicely for lister, but it would have made sense. Surely he could even have headed out for a bit, and then orbited a planet, while broadcasting a radiation warning. All options would have buggered the plot up.
Don't forget though Holly developed computer senality. Even though it's said it takes around 1million years to take effect I'm willing to bet having a ton of radiation buzzing about would speed up the process a bit. Also it's likely that the who cat civilization extended the whole waiting until it was safe.
Perhaps that's how their future selves were able to travel in Out of Time. Perhaps their future selves traveled forward to the exact moment before the younger dwarfers thought of using the stasis booth in conjunction with the time machine, interrupting them before the traveled.
2:54 "You are sick!" LOL Hilarious the way he says it.
sweet
The only thing about Lister’s amnesia that disturbed Kryten was hearing Lister call Rimmer his best mate.
@@li-limandragon9287 That's right.

The beginning of Psirens was so well done. In fact, the whole episode is an ideal opener, the script polished to a shine.
100% my favourite episode ever

seeing Rimmer being brought back online like this is really cool
Rimmer was chosen to keep him sane and brought back his memory - he really was the perfect choice

Classic memory joke from Kryten xD

The version of stasis on starbug was probably far less advanced
@@ohbugger1648 And they presumably use it again in the episode 'Nanarchy' in series 7, to retrace their steps to the moon Red Dwarf was lost at.
Oh that Rimmer 😂
I always think about this scene when I'm in the kitchen just before I'm about to go to bed
"I'm an aminal, I'm a tastless uncoothed mindless tone deaf Randy blokish semi literate space bum..."
"AAAH WELCOME BACK SIR!"
Lister: I sound like some barely human, grossed out, slimeball.
Kryten: Oh, it's flooding back is it, sir?
😂
I love how he thawed rimmer's light-bee by very mildly cooking it
You'd think it wouldn't like that - given that it's a computer - but it's so silly

No surprise, a lot of good humour in comedies are referential to things the view already knows or understands about characters etc.

why didn't lister and cat stay in deep sleep till they got back to earth?
(Late answer I know lol) Because they were chasing the stolen Red Dwarf.
@@EnforcerX71 Plus they'd never survive the trip probably starbug's stasis is only slows your aging by 95 percent according to the novels
